Swimming across the English Channel—the 21-mile-long channel between southern England and northern France— is not an easy thing. Besides the strong ocean currents(洋流), swimmers also have to face temperatures that can change from 18℃ to 6℃. However, don't tell that to Sarah Thomas. The 37-year-old American woman recently became the first person ever to swim the English Channel four times without stop.

What makes Thomas even greater is that just a year ago, in 2018, she survived （幸存）serious illness. She said that fighting the strong currents was hard. "But even worse is dealing with the saltwater … it really hurts your throat(咽喉), your mouth and your tongue," she said.

Thomas's journey began just past midnight on Sunday, September 15, 2019. The swim was about 80 miles at the beginning. However, strong currents add the total distance by about 50 miles. When Thomas came out from the water at 6: 30 am local time on Tuesday, September 17, 2019, she was in the water for 54 hours and 13 minutes and swam a total of 133 miles!

There was a ship with GPS and computers to record wind, tides and currents with Thomas all the time. It guided her through the water. Her mother and husband were on the ship. During her swimming, Thomas took a rest every 30 to 60 minutes.

One day after school, I went to the teacher's office to see my teacher, but nobody was there. As I was about to leave, I noticed a piece of paper on the floor. I picked it up and saw the words "FINAL-TERM EXAMINATION" at the top. I put the paper into my school bag secretly and ran out of the room.

After I came back home, I took out the paper quickly. It was the exam paper of my worst subject, History. I felt excited. My heart beat fast. I took out my History book and started working on the answer. I had never answered any questions so seriously.

On the day of the History exam, I went into the exam hall confidently. When the paper was sent to me, I dreamt of getting the highest mark in the whole grade and could not help smiling. "My History teacher always encouraged me to work hard and get better grades, but I let him down time and time again. This time I will give him a big surprise," I thought.

When the teacher said we could start, I turned the paper over. To my surprise, all the questions were different. Later I felt nervous. In the end, I almost left the paper undone. After the exam. I ran to the toilet, took out the paper and carefully read it from the top. Oh! It was last year's exam paper. I read all the questions but I hadn't read the date.

This is a lesson in which I know I have to put my feet on the ground. I regretted doing such a silly thing. After that, I told my teacher the truth and I promised to be honest. From then on, I worked harder than ever before.

   Spiderman is one of the most famous comic book heroes of all time．He was created by Stan Lee in 1963 and was first introduced to the world in the pages of Marvel comic books．
   Spiderman's story is the story of Peter Parker，a child who lost his parents and lives with his aunt and uncle．Peter is a shy，quiet boy wearing glasses and has few friends．One day，on a high school class trip to a science lab，he gets bitten by a special spider．Soon Peter realizes he has amazing powers：he is as strong and quick as a spider and also has a type of sixth sense．He no longer needs his glasses and he can use his super power to fly through the city streets! Remembering something his Uncle Ben has told him，that“with great power, there must also come great responsibility(责任)，”Peter decides to use his powers to fight enemies who do cruel things to people．And so，Spiderman is born．
   Life is not easy for Peter even though he is a superhero．He is in love with Mary Jane but cannot tell her about his amazing powers Besides,his best friend Harry hates Spiderman! Peter is also short of money and time．He has to sell photos of Spiderman(himself!)to a newspaper and he keeps losing his other jobs because he's so busy saving people! Yet he has to fight different kinds of cruel enemies．

Once I thought love meant flowers, gifts and sweet kisses (吻). So, I really doubt (怀疑) whether (是否) there is love between my parents. Every day they are very busy trying to make money to pay the schooling for me. They don't act in the romantic ways that I read in books or I see on TV, and sending flowers to each other on Valentine's Day is even impossible.
One day, my mother was sewing a quilt (被子). I asked her if there was love between them. She stopped her work and looked up with surprise. Then she bowed (弯下) her head and continued sewing the quilt. I was very worried because I thought I hurt her. But after a few minutes she said, “Look at this thread (线). Sometimes it appears, but most of the time it disappears in the quilt. If life is a quilt, then love should be a thread. It can hardly (几乎不) be seen anywhere or anytime, but it's really there, and makes the quilt long-lasting.” I listened carefully but I couldn't understand her until the next spring.
My mother suddenly got sick seriously and had to stay in the hospital for a one-month treatment. Every morning and dusk (黄昏) after she returned from the hospital, my father helped my mother walk slowly on the country road. There were many beautiful flowers, green grass and trees, and the sun gently shone them through the leaves. All of these made up the most beautiful picture in the world. Reading their eyes, I knew they loved each other deeply. From this experience, I realized that love was just a thread in the quilt of our life. Love is inside, making life strong and warm.

Chris Rock was born in the state of South Carolina in the United States. When he was a child, his family moved, and he grew up in a poor area in Brooklyn, New York.

As a teenager, Rock left high school and started telling jokes in comedy clubs in New York City, Even at age 18, Chris Rock was very funny.
