Life is like the four seasons. Now I am very old, but when I was young, it was the spring of my life. I was born, I played a lot, and then I started school. I learned many new things. Like a flower, I grew bigger every day. There were happy days and sorrowful days: some days the sun shone(闪耀), and some days it didn't.
In my twenties, I had a good job. I was strong and happy. Then I married and had a child. In those days, I didn't have much time to think. Every day I was busy and worked very hard. And so, I started to get some white hairs. The summer of my life passed quickly.
Then the days got shorter. Leaves fell from the trees. My child was a university student, and then an engineer. My home was much quieter. I started walking slowly. One day I stopped working. I had more time. I understood this was my autumn, a beautiful time when the trees change color and give us delicious fruits.
But the days kept getting shorter and colder. Winter has come, I am older and weaker. I know I do not have many days left. I will enjoy them to the end.

During my first two weeks at the University of California, Berkeley, I experienced some unexpected, funny, and sometimes embarrassing(令人尴尬的) situations. Allow me to share some with you.
But first, let me give advice to other foreign students who plan to study in the United States. Check the weather before coming! I was very sure that California was sunny all year around so I left all my jackets and sweaters in Paris. It was a huge mistake! It rained almost every day during the first week in Berkeley.
I have to say that I quickly forgot these unlucky events. Life in Berkeley is very pleasant and everything is so easy compared to Paris. For example, in only 24 hours I bought a mobile phone and made the lease(租约) agreement for a flat. What's more, almost all the shops are open on Sunday, which is very practical for me.
The first thing that surprised me is that students may come late to class. They freely enter and leave the classroom many times during class. In France, students respect the teacher's lesson, so they are never late and they leave the classroom only at the end of the class.
The local people in California are in general very nice, open and active, However, I am not totally used to their habits yet. Indeed, I was used to shaking my friends' hands every day in France. During my second day at Berkeley, I shook the hand of one of my classmates whom I had met the day before and he told me “I think we already met!”
Another funny story happened during the first party I attended: A girl that I meet before came to hug me. I thought she wanted to kiss me like we usually do in France to say hello. So I kissed her and she seemed a little bit embarrassed.
I live a great experience at present, and I would just encourage any student to become a member in  a program at UC, Berkeley.

A few days ago, I ran into(撞上)a stranger as he passed by. I said sorry to him, and he said, "Excuse me too, I wasn't even watching for you.” We were very polite, this stranger and I.  Then we went on our way after saying goodbye.

Later in the kitchen at home, as I cooked our meal, my daughter Betty walked up to me, very quietly. When I turned around (转身), I nearly knocked her down  "Get out of the way!" I shouted angrily. She ran away, crying.

That night, when I lay in bed, my husband said to me, “You were so rude to Betty. Go and look around on the kitchen floor, and you'll find some flowers there. Betty brought those for you. She picked them herself-pink, yellow, and your favourite blue.''

When I heard this, I thought deeply: While meeting with a stranger, I was calm and polite; but with my daughter, I was not patient.  I felt sad and tears began to fall.

I quietly went to Betty's bed, "Wake up, my dear," I said. "Are these the flowers you picked for me?" She smiled, “I found them by the tree. I knew you'd like them, especially the blue.” I said, ‘‘I am so sorry that I treated (对待) you that way today." And she whispered(悄声地说), “Mommy, that's okay- I still love you anyway.'' I kissed her and said, “I love you too and I do love the flowers.”

That day Betty gave me a lesson on how to get along with each other in the family. I spent much time on work before and didn't realize how important family life was. I decided to do better in the future.

I felt very sad not to be able to get the ticket to the film Titanic last Friday. I learned in the newspaper that tickets could be bought at the cinema box office in Richland Hills every day between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Because I work from 9:00 a.m.to 5:30 p.m., the only time I could go to the cinema was during my 45-minute lunch time. It is a pity that the cinema is on the other side of the town, and the bus service between my office and Richland Hills is not very good. But if you are lucky, you can make the round(往返)trip in 45 minutes.

Last Monday I stood at the bus stop for fifteen minutes, waiting for a bus. By the time I saw one coming around the corner, there was not enough time left to make the trip-so I had to go back to the office. The same thing happened on Wednesday. On Thursday my luck changed, I got on a bus right away and arrived at the cinema in twenty minutes. But when I got there, I found a long line of people at the box office. I heard one man say he had been waiting in line for fifty-five minutes. I found that I would not have enough time to wait in line. I caught the next bus and went back across the town.

Then on Friday I understood my only hope was to make the trip by car. It was not cheap, but I felt it would be worthwhile to see the film. The trip by car only took 10 minutes, but it felt like one hour to me. When I reached the cinema, I was delighted to see that nobody was waiting in line. But I quickly found out that it was because they had already sold out all the tickets.

17-year-old Brennan Agranoff, a colorblind boy, started his custom (定做的) sock business in middle school, with a little money he got from his parents. Up till now, he has sold over $1 million worth of socks online in the last four years.

Brennan thought of the idea for his custom sock company at just 13 years old. He was playing in a high-school basketball game in his hometown, and noticed that many kids of his age were wearing the same white Nike sport socks. The boy told himself if these white simple socks were so popular with kids, then some cool custom designs (设计) would surely be more popular.

But the boy didn't tell his parents about the business idea immediately. He spent six months researching things, like printing machines and technology and writing out a business plan. When he had everything planned out, he asked his parents for some money." They thought the idea was a little out there," Brennan recently told CNN Money, but he kept pushing, and finally got a $3, 000 from his parents to start his company. Then he began to work on his own designs. Though he was colorblind, it didn't stop him and he has created over 200 kinds of designs now.

Business was slow the first year, but then Brennan started pushing his own brand(商标)HoopSwagg socks on the Internet. Orders soon started coming in in large numbers, and HoopSwagg became a popular brand among custom sock lovers. Right now, people can find his designs on HoopSwagg website, Amazon and eBay.

Four years after starting his business, Brennan has achieved great success while balancing(平衡) school, housework and his social life. And he says he loved every minute of it.
