完形填空
My dad was driving to the city center to shop and I was going along for the ride. At least that was what I had told him— 1 I had an important question to ask—that had been on my mind for a couple of weeks and this was the first time I had been able to 2with him alone.
“Dad…”I started. And 3 .
“Yes?” he said.
“The kids say there is no Father Christmas. They say I'm 4 to believe in Father Christmas anymore…it's only for little kids. But I believe what you told me. Father Christmas is 5 . He is, isn't he, Dad?”
“The real life and spirit of this magical elf (精灵) lives forever in your heart, my heart, Mom's heart and in the hearts and minds of 6 people who believe in the joy that giving to others brings. The real 7 of Father Christmas becomes what you can give rather what you get. Once you understand this and it becomes 8 of you, Father Christmas becomes even more exciting and more magical because you come to 9 the magic comes from you when Father Christmas lives in your heart. Do you understand what I am 10 to tell you?”
My heart was filled with pride and I'm sure my eyes were shining with 11 .” Of course, Dad. I want him to be in my heart, just like he's in yours. I love you, Daddy. You're the best Father Christmas who has 12been in the whole world.”
When it comes time in my life to 13 the reality of Father Christmas to my children, I hope that I will be as eloquent (有口才) and 14 as my dad was the day I learned that the spirit of Father Christmas doesn't wear a red 15 . And I hope they will accept me as I did that day. I'm sure they will.

There were many famous inventors and scientists in history. You must have heard about a lot of them and known them well. But you may not know Nikola Tesla.

Nikola Tesla and his inventions were well- known to people in the area of science and electricity, but not quite known to the general public today. Nikola Tesla was a Serbian- born inventor, who later moved to the US. He was most well- known for his inventions in the area of electricity and electrical engineering. He was considered one of the greatest electrical engineers in history.

Why was Nikola Tesla not well- known while others in his time became so famous to the public? Some said Nikola Tesla failed to make the right business decisions. Others said it was because of his "mad scientist" qualities (特质) — the same qualities that helped him come up with some of his best ideas. His qualities led him to many strange ideas. Towards his last years, he came up with many ideas that seemed unacceptable to the public at that time. He worked very hard on them, which made people think he was mad.

Many of Tesla's inventions and patents (专利) didn't end up being used in the exact way he had planned for them. Some of those include his high- frequency lighting ideas, wireless power and the free energy receiver.

If you are interested in green energy and reducing your electricity bill, check out products that are developed from Tesla's work. They help create green energy at home, without depending on the electricity companies and without paying for it. They help people save money through producing electricity at home, based on Nikola Tesla's inventions.

Tesla had too many inventions. However, he never really made a lot of money out of them. He had a bigger dream: to provide free energy for all.

Nikola Tesla is not alone. There are many other inventors who invented many useful things but are not known to the public.

Charlotte Liebling considers herself a"world watcher" - someone who carefully sees the world around her. When Liebling was in college, she volunteered at a 1 that sold second-hand goods. She saw people bringing objects to donate, including soft toys.

Liebling knew that the toys held great sentimental (情感的) value for their owners. So she felt 2 when the toys were sold very cheaply, or worse, thrown away.

One night when Liebling got home from work, she started doing some research. She 3 this wasn't happening only in her town. Millions of toys 4 in landfills(垃圾场) every year in the world."If we can change the idea that soft toys lose their 5 after they' ve been used, then we can show people that these toys still hold important worth and can be passed on to others. That's how the Loved Before Company 6 ," Liebling says.

When someone wants to donate a soft toy, he can take it to the company. He is encouraged to write down the name of the toy and a story about it. This can include the creature's likes and dislikes, and an adventure it's been on. Liebling believes that sharing what makes the toy 7 helps new owners understand its value. Then the toy is cleaned, photographed, and packed 8 with its name and story. Every Monday, Liebling 9 the toys on the Loved Before website.

Since the company started in 2019, Loved Before has sold more than 50, 000 soft toys. But the company's 10 is more than"just trying to save some toys from landfills," Liebling says. "We hope to teach kids about the value of loving second-hand things again."
