Li Ting is a good girl. She is ten years old. Her parents are very busy. So her grandfather, Mr. Li, cooks(烹饪) breakfast for her. Li Ting loves her grandfather and wants to thank him.

It's Sunday morning. Mr. Li can't find Li Ting in her room. "Li Ting, where are you?" he asks. "I'm here, in the kitchen(厨房)." Then, Mr. Li sees nice noodles(面) with eggs on the table. Sally says to her grandfather, "Dear Grandfather, thank you for your breakfast every day. This is my breakfast for you. I know you like noodles for breakfast very much."

Lu Xun is one of the greatest Chinese writers of the 20th century. Besides his famous stories, he also wrote many influential(有影响力的) articles about the life of Chinese people. 

Born in a {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (wealth) family in 1881, Lu Xun had a happy childhood. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (unlucky), his father became seriously ill and died in 1896. From that tine on, his family were no longer accepted by their relatives and friends. These early {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (experience) deeply influenced his writing. 

When he studied at university in 1899, he already believed that Chinese society had to change and become modern. In 1902, he went to study in Japan. There, he began writing articles {#blank#}4{#/blank#} several Chinese student magazines to make a living. He showed a gift for writing and translating and he even wrote several books, though none was popular. He returned to China in 1909 because {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (he) family was in need of money. 

After working for several years as {#blank#}6{#/blank#} teacher in Beijing, Lu Xun again returned to writing. In 1918, he created his famous short story Diary of a Mad Man {#blank#}7{#/blank#} was the first Chinese novel to use the everyday language. So it came out to be a great success. And his other novels, such as The True Story of AhQ and Kong Yiji, {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (read) by Chinese young people in that period. 

Although successful, Lu Xun still worried greatly about China' s future. In 1926, he moved to Shanghai and gave up {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (write) stories in order to focus on articles which could call on people to fight for a better country. 

Since his death in 1936, Lu Xun' s influence {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (grow) with time. Today, many of his writings are included in school textbooks and his works are valued by millions around the world. 

 Dawn Loggins was born in North Carolina, America. She had a hard childhood because of her {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (父母) problems. There was {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (从不) enough money for food and living, so the family often lived in buildings without power or running water. Dawn really wanted to learn, but {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (学习) at home was difficult with no lights.

 As she got older, Dawn {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (明白) that education was the only way to change her life. When her parents {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (突然) moved away to Tennessee, she was left behind and moved in with a woman. The woman was a hotel {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (经理). Dawn was finally in a normal home. To make money, she took a job as a school cleaner and worked every day before classes {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (开始). With great efforts, she always got A {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (在······期间) her teenage years and worked even harder. She hoped to get into Harvard {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (大学) one day.

 As the saying goes, "No pains, no gains." Her dream came {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (真的) and she studied biology there. This was a fantastic achievement for a teenager whose life had been far from easy.

Once upon a time, there was a man who had four sons. One day, he told each of his sons to go and see what a pear tree looked like {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (在……期间) winter, spring, summer and {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (秋天). After a year, he gathered them{#blank#}3{#/blank#} (在一起) to ask them what they saw.

The first son answered that the tree {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (变得) ugly and bare (光秃秃的).

The second son said, "No! It was covered with new green {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (新鲜的) leaves. The tree had hopes."

The third son {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (摇) his head. He said the pear tree was full of pretty flowers. They smelled so sweet and looked so beautiful.

"There were many pears on the tree, but no flowers," the fourth son {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (不同意). "I saw the joy of a great harvest (收获)."

The man then said to his sons that they were all right. They got the difference because each of them only saw one season in the life of the pear tree.

"You cannot judge a tree, a person or your life by just one season."

I want to learn English well. I believe that communicating with others is the best way to learn English. So I went to a language school in the UK. I also got a job as a saleswoman because I thought learning English in a language school was not enough. I needed to meet people outside to improve my speaking and listening. 

My first work week was very difficult. For example, when a customer asked me about a specific type of chocolate, I had no idea. After the customer left, the manager said to me, "It doesn't matter. No pain, no gain. " The manager's words encouraged me and I tried to learn how to communicate with customers in English. 

Three years ago, I only knew how to introduce myself in English. But right now, I know many different kinds of medicines and other things in English. I will never forget all my experiences in the UK about learning English.
