Raising chickens seems a difficult task for teenagers. Grace Goodpasture from Virginia, US, not only raises them but also tries to breed(喂养) the "perfect chicken". And she even won an award for her love of science.
Grace started breeding chickens in her third grade at Steward school. At first, she worked on some farms for her school project. But later the fourteen-year-old started to have some ideas of her own.
"Some have thicker eggshells(蛋壳), and they are hearty(健壮的) throughout the winter," said Grace.
Since then, the young science lover started to try to find the healthiest free-range(散养) chickens. And she ended up breeding a type that now bears her name.
The National Science Teachers Association (NSTA) gave the 2015 Angela Award to Grace Goodpasture. Her interests don't end with chickens and eggs. She is also into building robots and testing preservatives (防腐剂) in fast foods. In her words, she wants to go to Virginia Tech for poultry (家禽) sciences in the future.
Have you had a headache during a test? Have you ever been so worried about something that you have a headache or even can't sleep at night? If so, then you know what stress is.{#blank#}1{#/blank#} This worry in your mind can make your body feel bad. You may feel angry, sad, scared, or afraid — all of which can give you a stomachache or a headache.
However, there are different kinds of stress.{#blank#}2{#/blank#} Good stress might happen when you are called to answer questions in class or when you have to give a speech.{#blank#}3{#/blank#} For example, you may do a better job on your test if the stress pushes you to prepare better before the test.
On the other hand, bad stress can happen if the stress lasts too long. You may not feel well if your parents are fighting, if a family member is sick, if you are having problems at school, or if anything else makes you unhappy every day. That kind of stress isn't going to help you. And it can actually make you sick.
The best way to fight the stress is to have a balanced life.{#blank#}4{#/blank#} If you get enough sleep and eat properly, and if you exercise and leave time for fun, you'll probably feel less stressed.
A. No one can work well under the stress. B. Some kinds of stress are good and others are bad. C. This kind of stress can help you to get things better done. D. Stress is what you feel when you are worried about something. E. Make sure you keep yourself in mind: sleep, exercise and food. |

Take dear notes (笔记).
It's a good idea to write down important things your teacher says or writes on the blackboard in class.{#blank#}3{#/blank#}Good notes can help you study easily.
Plan ahead (提前计划).
Waiting until Thursday night to study for Friday's test will make you feel tired.{#blank#}4{#/blank#}One of the best ways to make sure that doesn't happen (发生) is to plan ahead.
Have a good sleep.
The test is tomorrow and you're finished your study plan, but you find you just can't remember anything! Don't worry.{#blank#}5{#/blank#}You'll be surprised by what comes back to you in the morning.
