Look at the Sky from the Bottom of a Well

    There is a frog(青蛙). He lives in a well(水井) and he never goes out of the well. He thinks the sky is as big as the mouth of the well.

    One day a crow(乌鸦)comes to the well. He sees the frog .

    The frog asks, “Where are you from?”

    “I fly from the sky.” the crow says.

    The frog feels surprised and says, “The sky is only as big as the mouth of the well. How do you fly from the sky?”

    The crow says, “The sky is very big. You always stay in the well, so you don't know the world is big.”

    The frog says, “I don't believe it .”

    But the crow says, “You can come out and have a look by yourself.”

    So the frog comes out from the well. He is very surprised. How big the world is!

    It was coming up on Marty's birthday. His mom had asked him what he wanted as a gift this year. He thought maybe a new bicycle, or maybe a new camera, a new basketball, or a telescope (望远镜)."Any of those gifts would be great," he said. Secretly, he hoped for the telescope. Marty loved space, stars, and learning about the planets.

    Marty's mom and dad talked about the gifts one night after Marty went to sleep." I think we should get Marty the telescope," said dad." He's so interested in space and the planets, he would like that the best." "Sounds good," said mom. Dad told her he would pick out a telescope for Marty the next day after work.

    Marty's dad had the telescope in his car. He waited until Marty was asleep and brought it into the house. "Wow!" said Marty's mom after dad put it together. "This is wonderful." " Now where are we going to hide it until Sunday？" "How about in the attic(阁楼)?" "Marty won't find it there."

    Sunday morning came and Marty ran down the stairs into the kitchen. His gift was usually near his chair at the table, but this year he didn't see anything. "Happy Birthday!" shouted mom and dad from the next room. They came into the kitchen and saw Marty was looking around for a gift. "I guess you think we forgot to get you a gift," said mom. Marty looked confused. "Well, you usually put my gift in the kitchen," Marty said. Dad told Marty to follow him outside the house in the yard. "This is fantastic!" shouted Marty. "I don't take many pictures, and I probably wouldn't use the basketball much, and my bike is okay for now. But I will use the telescope! Thanks so much." "You're welcome," said mom and dad. All that night, Marty saw many beautiful stars and even the planet Mars. Marty would remember his tenth birthday for the rest of his life!

My brother and I were driving home together and started talking Because of this distraction（分心）, my brother took a wrong turn. Unfortunately, the wrong turn took us toward a bridge, and we had no way of turning back. My brother had to pay to cross the bridge: He was-clearly upset by the mistake.

As we drove forward, my brother noticed that a car pulled over to the side of the road. A young guy was standing nearby trying to phone someone. I was busy trying to find out which-way we went next but my brother pulled over and asked the guy if he needed any help. And he did. He had. a flat tire（车胎瘪了）.

My brother helped him change the tire. He said that this had been a bad week for him and earlier he had gotten into a car accident, But he called us "a breath of fresh air" and kept thanking us. After we finished the job, he thanked us again and pulled out $20 and tried to give it to us. "No," my brother said. "We were never supposed to even get on that bridge. We took a wrong turn. Bui t now we know why we did. It was to help you. Thank you for turning our mistake into an opportunity to serve."

What I loved most was watching my brother throughout this process. He was able to turn his bad mood（心情）over the mistake into positive（积极的）energy. He was able to see a chance. to help（which I totally. missed!）even in a bad situation. Thatwas the bridge we were meant to cross.

There was a little kid studying in the 5th grade. Everyone in his class thought that he was one of the1 kids. His grades were so terrible that he himself thought the same. 

However, his poor progress didn't2 him as he cared nothing about studying but reading novels. He used to say to his mom, "Nothing matters except for reading." His mother was aware that her boy was not reaching his full potential (潜能) and decided to give him a way to do it. So, she set two rules for him. First, he was3 to watch TV shows or play outside only after finishing his homework. Second, while reading two books each week, he had to write a book report on each of them. 

The kid felt4 about these new rules and tried hard to talk his mother out of them. But his mother stood firm and the kid couldn't5 her. Before long, he saw the6 of his hard work, when he was the only one who knew the answer to a question the teacher asked the class. All his classmates and teachers, even the kid himself, felt surprised. The kid noticed that his7 came from books he was reading. He began to realize that he could8 his love for reading into learning. If he could learn just a few facts from books, he could learn anything. 

This was the way pointed out by the mother who knew what her boy was9 to do. The kid10 on his path of growth. Who was considered as the most stupid kid of class is now a world famous doctor, writer and politician. 

There is a popular (受欢迎的) club at Sunshine Middle School. It's the Cooking Club. Students call it the "fun club". More and more students spend their Tuesday afternoons at the club. 

Many parents don't think cooking skills are important. They don't let their children cook at home. In fact, the kitchen is a learning lab for students. Joining the Cooking Club is a good way for them to learn different skills and feel good. 

First, students can learn how to cook. When their parents are not at home, they can take care of themselves. 

Second, students can take their food home and share it with their family. They will have a sense of achievement. 

Third, the teachers in the club teach students not only how to cook but also the science behind the food they eat. They will learn a lot about how to eat healthily. 

Last, students can practise basic Maths skills like counting and measuring, they also learn social (社交的) skills by working together and making friends.
