You don't need to get in a time-travelling machine to see how technology will change our lives, such as the way we shop. Several new technologies that are to change your buying habits already appear. Let's see what's in store for your future shopping.

Try it on, virtually(虚拟地). Want to shop online for a new pair of glasses? You don't need to guess which pair looks best on you—use the eBay Fashion iPhone app to try a pair of glasses you're checking out on a picture of your face. But what about buying something bigger? Thanks to Microsoft Kinect's action tracking(跟踪)camera, you can cover clothes on your screen body. You can even choose the background of your virtual fitting room to improve your shopping experience.

Get a perfect, custom fit. Everyone's body is shaped differently. To get a perfect fit, you sometimes have to get your clothes changed. But by using 3D scanning technology, all the clothes you buy will fit your body perfectly. Some companies scan(扫描)your body using High-tech to get the real sizes, so they can make special clothes just for you.

High-tech shopping carts(推车)and checkout counters(收银台). High-tech shopping carts could be common in malls and supermarkets in the future. Microsoft Kinect-enabled carts are under test. The cart can follow you along the aisles(通道), controlled only by your movement and your voice.

In the United States, several supermarkets use a certain set called “Scan It” that gives buyers the freedom to scan products on their own while they shop. If we don't want to wait in line before the checkout counters, we can use Toshiba's new object Recognition Scanner. The machine identifies(辨认)a product as soon as it's placed in front of a camera just by its shape and color, even if it has no bar code.

Pollution inside homes and other buildings kills more than 4 million people each year. Many people die as a result of breathing smoke or from cooking over wood﹣powered of coal﹣powered stoves.

One way to reduce the number of deaths is through cooking equipment powered by the sun.Crosby Menzies,a solar power expert in a South African company, described his latest solar cooker called the“Sol.4”,”It is four square meters of mirrors, six to eight meters in length. It is quite a large cooler.”

The“Sol.4”works by reflecting (反射)light from the sun off large mirrors. The mirrors direct (把…对准)the light at a cooking pan. Then the light heats the pan with solar energy.Within two minutes, the pan is hot enough to cook sausages and onions. In just four minutes, water can be boiled. That is as fast as cooking with natural gas or electricity.

The cooker is also much“friendlier”than other models because people do not have to stand in the sun to use it.And people can prepare meals without having to collect firewood or spend money on coal.Suchindividualswould be less likely to have breathing illnesses from harmful smoke.

At present, the cooker only works when the sun is shining. But engineers are working on a way to make it work without sunlight.

Each cooker costs about $2000,which is a large amount of money for most Africans. To solve that problem,Crosby Menzies has crated a non﹣governmental organization called solar Cookers for Africa. It plans to raise money through donations to provide poor people with solar cooking equipment.

Our eyes may be playing tricks on us.  New research shows that sometimes people physically see what they want to see. Cornell University social psychologist(心理学家) David

Dunning carried out experiments to test whether wishful thinking can actually affect what we see.

“It's well proved from what is experienced in everyday life, and from the laboratory as well, that people think what they want to think," he says. "We're taking this a step further.

We're asking if strong wishes and fears can actually affect what people physically see."

Dunning and his assistants told volunteers that a computer game would show them either a letter or number to decide whether they would drink orange juice or fruit syrup(果子露).

As they wrote in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, the computer would flash an ambiguous picture, which could be seen as the letter "B" or the number "13". Volunteers who were told that a letter would get them orange juice most often reported seeing "B". Those who were told that a number would get them orange juice most often saw "13".

The researchers also used a hidden camera to track volunteers' eye movements, particularly the first eye movement. "We don't control them," Dunning says, "and they don't even know that we are watching them, so it honestly shows what a person is seeing."

"This research suggests that the brain is doing a lot of work between the eye and the conscious awareness to affect what we think," Dunning concludes (得出结论). "Before we even see the world, our brain has decided to keep what we want to see and avoid what we don't want to see."
