Our dog Abbey died last month. My 4-year-old daughter Lucy missed her a lot and asked if we could write a letter to God to make sure he could look after Abbey well. I told Lucy that I thought we could, and she dictated(口述) these words:

    We put the letter in an envelope with a picture of Abbey and Lucy and addressed it to God/Heaven. Yesterday, we received a package addressed "To Lucy" with this note:

    Mrs. Black is a music teacher in a school. She lives in an apartment building in Star Community. She is kind and her neighbors like her.

Larry lives next to Mrs. Black. He has a guitar. He always plays the guitar at night but he can't play it well. It's very noisy. All his neighbors can't sleep and they are angry about it.

    One Sunday, Larry comes to Mrs. Black's house and wants to learn playing the guitar from Mrs. Black. Mrs. Black says, "Young man, I would like to teach you to play the guitar, but not today. I must talk with you first. I'm happy that you also like music, but it's not good to play the guitar at night." From that day, Larry doesn't play the guitar at night and his neighbors begin to like him again.

    Yesterday afternoon Mr. Brown wanted to catch the 1:30 flight to New York to have an important meeting. At 4:30, Mrs Brown, his wife, got his phone call and he said that he was still at the airport.

    "What happened to you?" Mrs Brown asked in surprise.

    "Well," Mr. Brown said. "Everything was fine at first. I got my ticket checked, took my bags and waited in line to get on the plane. While I was walking across the runway to the plane, I saw my friend Jack Scott—he was a flight attendant. I shouted to him and a policeman caught me."

    "But why?"

    "I don't know. As soon as he heard my shout, he ran towards me and caught me."

    "What did you shout to your friend?"

    "All I said was 'Hi, Jack' ; you know that's the usual way we say hello to our friend."

    "But the sentence 'Hi, Jack' also means to take control of a plane by force(武力). Don't you know?"

Do you know about Sally? She's good-looking and well-spoken, but also is obedient(听话的). That's to say, she'll do anything that you ask her to do. Sally is a personal assistant robot. Bill Moir. a university teacher and computer engineer, spent more than a year finishing this robot. And now Sally can do many things, such as turning on the radio, and even playing and working on computers.

In other parts of the world, there are similar robots,but Bill's is to help disabled (残疾的) people around the home.

About one month ago, Bill said, "I'll make a special house. When you come in, Sally will be there on the big screen for you. You can ask her to read your e-mails, tell you the news and how the weather is. You can also askher to help you buy something you need.She'll be able to do many other things if you like."

Although Sally is a robot, it seems that she could do a better job than a human helper.

Bill's working on a new project (项目) now. He wants to improve Sally so that she can do more and better work for people.
