人教版(新课程标准)高中英语必修五Unit 5 First Aid单元测试1

阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。

I woke up earlier than my brother as every other day of the week. I jumped out of the bed, got dressed, brushed my teeth, and had breakfast. Saying good bye to my mother, I got in the car no later than 7:05. I got to school on time, even though my brother came out of the house late as he used to.

It was a Thursday. I was walking to the chemistry rooms when my phone in my left pocket vibrated(震动). I took it out and looked at the shiny screen. As soon as I saw my father's name on that screen I realized something was not right.

He would not call me in the middle of a school day just to talk. He would want me to focus in school and do well. I answered the phone, and my father sounded worried. He told me to find my brother as soon as possible, walk with him to the school picking-up zone and get in the car with my brother. Our driver would take us back home where my father was.

When I was in the car with my brother my dad called the driver and told him to take us to the hospital. We were going to meet him and my mum there. As soon as my brother and I found about the change in plans, we looked at each other in the eyes. I immediately noticed the fear in my brother's eyes.

To be honest, I was really scared too, probably more than he was. But I did not say anything. We arrived at the hospital. I saw my dad on the phone waiting for us at the entrance. He was smoking. Seeing my dad smoking made me more worried. I had never seen him smoke before. He hated it. As soon as he recognized the white car, he threw the cigarette away. I looked at my brother; he was looking out of the other window. I did not tell him what I just saw. I did not want him to worry.

My father asked me to chat with him for a while. Actually, I was unwilling to listen to his talking endlessly as he always did. My father was a lawyer, but I never wanted to go to law school or follow his path through life.

As was expected, he cleared his throat and started to say, “Er… What… What do you really want to do in the gorgeous future?”

I was silent for a moment playing with the cell phone. I kept thinking, “Should I tell him my true thoughts? What if he gets angry? What if I let him down?” later I replied, “Well, I want to be a writer.”

I guessed this may be not the answer he would expect. But surprisingly, “Interesting idea!” he answered. I was shocked, speaking in a low voice with hesitation.

    “Are you serious, dad?”

“Well, you need confidence and good preparations, and you still have plenty of time. You need to find out what you really enjoy now. Look, it's late. Let's take the boat out tomorrow morning, just you and me. Maybe we can catch some crabs (螃蟹) for dinner, and we can talk more.”

Early next morning we packed up the equipment and set off along the coast. We didn't talk much, but enjoyed the sound of the seabirds and the sight of the coastline.

There were no big waves and blinding sunlight at that time. “Let's see if we get lucky,” he said, picked up a web basket with a rope tied and threw it into the sea. We waited a while, then my father stood up and said, “Give me a hand with this,” and we pulled up the crab cage onto the deck.

To our joy, the cage was filled with dozens of soft shell crabs. Squatting (蹲) down, we watched them for a moment. At first they fought against each other to climb out hard, trying to escape. Many were pulled back into the cage. Later, some gave up, but there are still some crabs trying to escape again and again.

From that day on, I was determined to make my dream come true.

I clearly remember the day I walked into class with a big change — my very first pair of eye glasses and I was the first to wear glasses in my primary school.

I was filled with excitement, eager to show them off to my friends. I had chosen pink framed glasses, thinking they would look fantastic on me.

I had never worn glasses before, so selecting them felt like a fun shopping experience. I got to pick the shape I liked and even chose a pretty pink and purple colour combination.

The reason behind getting the glasses was my poor eyesight. I couldn't copy words and proper grammar from the blackboard because I sat at the back of the class, and everything was too vague for me to see. My friend would read aloud every phrase to me so that I could write them down, like a parrot.

Wearing those glasses was like stepping into a 3D cinematic world. I could see everything as clearly and each tiny de tail felt like a delightful surprise.

However, on the day I wore my glasses to school, everyone's reaction to my transformation was beyond my expectation. All the boys laughed and even teased me. Some kind-hearted girls forced a smile and told me that my glasses looked good on me, but I knew they didn't. They all lied.

Though I needed those glasses more than I wanted them, yet I started to dislike my new glasses in the following week. A month passed, my classmates still weren't used to seeing me in glasses and I took them off during the lunch break or when the classes were dismissed. However, little did I know that my decision to wear them would change the lives of many of my friends.

注意:1.续写词数应为 150左右2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

One Monday, one of my friends looked at me with curiosity.

……

A week later, I was shocked to see the same friend return to school with a pair of glasses.

It was a pleasant New Year's morning, Edward rose, washed and dressed himself in a hurry, because he wanted to be the first to wish a happy New Year.

He looked in every room and shouted the words of welcome. He ran into the street to repeat them to those he might meet. The festive atmosphere swept up the neighborhood.

When he came back, his father gave him two bright new silver dollars. His face lit up as he took them. He had wished for a long time to buy some pretty books that he had seen at the bookstore.

It was freezing and dry outside and the wind blew strongly. However, Edward left the house with a light heart, intending to buy the books.

As he ran down the street, he saw a poor German family, the father, mother and three children trembling with cold. "I wish you a happy New Year," said Edward, as he was cheerfully passing on. The man shook his head, saying nothing. "I wish you a happy New Year," repeated Edward, feeling a little puzzled. The man shook his head again, for he couldn't understand or speak the language. "You do not belong to this country, don't you?" asked Edward. Still the man said nothing, but this time he pointed to his mouth and to his children, as if to say, "These little ones have had nothing to eat for a long time." Edward quickly understood that these people were in trouble. The family were in great need of help. At that moment, he took out his dollars, looked at them over and over, and finally gave one to the man and the other to his wife.

How their eyes sparkled with gratitude! They said something in their language, which meant, "We thank you a thousand times and will remember you in our prayers."

Without a word, Edward made his way home, delighted.

注意:

1.续写词数应为150左右;

2.请按如下格式在相应位置作答。

When Edward came home, his father asked him what books he had bought.

"My dear boy, I saw you give the money to the poor German family," said the father.

阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

"Jennifer, do you hike?" Karen said to me. "Yes, I hike," I replied. Karen's slim figure and sun-kissed cheeks suggested she was a regular hiker.

"Great, do you want to come with us tomorrow? We will meet in front of Bobbie's house at 6:30 before it is too hot, and we will go over to Thunderbird Mountain. It is about three miles in total. Does that sound OK?"

Three miles. I wasn't sure how long that was, partly because I didn't actually hike. I was somewhat familiar with the area where they planned to go, but our family had just moved from Oregon to Arizona. I walked our dog around the neighbourhood all the time before we moved here. But I wasn't sure if I had gone three miles. Being new to town and excited about an invitation from women I wanted to befriend, I accepted, saying, "Sure. That sounds great. We all benefit from hiking."

When this hiking conversation among my new friends occurred, I was at a monthly dinner for moms in my new neighborhood. The group was four women in their forties, all with high-school kids, jobs, a fondness for reading and music and tricks for simplifying work-life.

I was honored to be invited since making friends in my forties in a new town wasn't easy. After this re-location for my husband's career, making friends wasn't as simple for me as it was for him. He came to the community for a full-time position at a busy university. Our teenaged son and daughter immediately plugged into school through sports and clubs. I was enormously grateful for the ea se of the transition for my family, but nervous for myself. So, while at the monthly ladies' gathering, when hiking came up, I just played along, wanting to try something new.

The next day, I got up early and carefully selected comfortable hiking clothes. When I arrived at the designated friend's driveway a little early, Karen was standing there waiting. "Hey, Jennifer, I'm glad that you can come to hike," she said cheerfully and hugged me. When the others joined us, we started walking. I was sweaty and a little out of breath before we even started going uphill.

注意:

1.续写词数应为150个左右;

2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

"So, where did you hike in Oregon?" one of them asked, offering me a bottle of water.

By accepting the invitation to hike that day, I received a lot.
