Winnie the Pooh is about 100 years old. It is my favourite, and I'm sure it's also yours. Do you know how it came to our life?

    Winnipeg is a place in Canada. Many years ago, Harry, a soldier, went to Europe from here. When he stopped at train station, he saw a man selling a little black bear. Harry bought it and named it Winnipeg. The name became Winnie in short later.

    Harry went to a lot of places. When he got to London, he left Winnie in the London Zoo. He thought they could look after Winnie.

    Near the zoo, there was a boy named Robin. He loved to visit the London Zoo with his dad. Winnie was his favourite animal. Robin's father was a writer. He wrote the bear in one of his poems for the first time. Later he wrote stories about Winnie and Robin. Slowly, the father wrote more characters(角色) like Piglet, Rabbit, Roo and Tigger and so on in his stories.

In 2009, Shawn Seipler worked for an American technology company. His job required him to travel and visit companies all over America. One evening, he was sitting in his hotel room. He began to wonder what happened to the soap in the bathroom once he left the hotel. There was no way that it could be left in the room for someone else to use. Curious, he asked the hotel manager and was told that the used soap was thrown away and replaced. 

Shawn could not sleep that night. A quick Internet search told him that there were about 4. 6 million hotel rooms in America. If 60 percent of these were used every night, over one million bars of soap would be thrown away every day. Was this really necessary? The young man went on to read reports about the importance of handwashing. He learned that thousands of children were dying every day from diseases related to bad hygiene (卫生) . If the children washed their hands with soap, the number of deaths could be reduced by half. The following day, Shawn left his well-paid job. He approached (靠近) the Holiday Inn Hotel in Orlando and asked if he could take away their used soap. He transported it to his home, where he and his relatives began to break it down, so it could be used again. 

Shawn started his charity, Clean The World, and began distributing his recycled soap to children all over the world. His another big task was to communicate with other hotels, so he could take away their used soap. He found that he was really doing the hotels a big favour. Not only was he putting their soap to good use, but he was also preventing millions of bars of used soap from ending up in landfill (垃圾填埋地) every year. His charity was able to raise money by charging the hotels for this service. In return, the hotels could tell everyone they were part of an amazing new charity. 

Today, the charity has offices overseas and operates in China, India and Canada. Many of the biggest hotel groups in the world are working with Clean The World, helping to save lives.

One of the climbers was an 8-year-old boy named David. He was the shortest child in the group. Nobody thought he would win.

Then the game started. All of the boys tried their best to climb as high as they could. Although the other boys climbed faster than David in the beginning, he reached the top of the tree fastest in the end.

His mother was proud (自豪的). She asked him. "David, how did you reach the top of the tree so quickly?"

"It was easy," David said. "The other children kept looking down as they climbed. When they knew how high they were, they were afraid of falling down. I, however, looked only up. When I saw how close I was, I kept going higher and higher until I reached the top."

It is true in life that if we just keep going forward without looking back, we are more likely to reach our goals (目标).

Ben could hear strong winds outside his home in Alabama. Black clouds were making the sky very dark. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} The news on TV reported that a heavy rainstorm was in the area.

When he woke up, the sun was rising. He went outside with his family and found the neighborhood in a mess. {#blank#}5{#/blank#}The family joined the neighbors to help clean up the neighborhood together. Although the storm broke many things apart, it brought families and neighbors closer together.

I live on a farm. It's a big, happy farm with lots of animals and plants.

I always wake up with the roosters every day. The roosters(公鸡) wake us up. Their crowing says," Time to play and work!"

My grandfather plants seeds on the farm. {#blank#}2{#/blank#}. We water them and wait for them to grow into big, green plants.

At night, the farm is quiet. I look at the stars before I go to bed, and they twinkle back at me.
