Everyone has a childhood. And childhood experiences are often very funny，which can make people{#blank#}1{#/blank#} （laugh）. It's true that lovely{#blank#}2{#/blank#} （child） running around the house always brighten up a home. 

I often recall my childhood，the years when many interesting things happened. When I was two years old，both my parents were always very busy{#blank#}3{#/blank#} their work. My mother worked{#blank#}4{#/blank#} a sales manager in a company while my father served in{#blank#}5{#/blank#} army. So I lived with my grandma in a village. I was always waiting for my parents at home. Once my father{#blank#}6{#/blank#} （send） us a photo of his in a soldier's uniform，which was{#blank#}7{#/blank#}（post） on the table reminding me of him. 

One day，my mother came to see me and we went{#blank#}8{#/blank#} （shop） together. On the way we saw a group of soldiers. And when I saw them，I became very{#blank#}9{#/blank#}（excite）. I said in a ringing voice，pointing to{#blank#}10{#/blank#}（they）， "This is my father，and this is my father，too!"

My mother said she would remember that moment all her life. 

Some people say it is not easy for a middle-aged person to learn a foreign language. But is it{#blank#}1{#/blank#}（real）true? 

Several years ago, I worked for {#blank#}2{#/blank#}English newspaper which was doing such a research. They asked me to learn a new language for one month. Then I had to go to the country and do some "tests" {#blank#}3{#/blank#}（see）if I could "survive（挺过来）" in different situations. 

I chose Spanish（西班牙语）and did a one-month course at a language school and{#blank#}4{#/blank#}（find）that some Spanish words are very similar to English ones. {#blank#}5{#/blank#}example, hola isn't very different from "hello". Of course, there are other things which are more difficult. In Spanish you have to change the verbs（动词）for each person. But my{#blank#}6{#/blank#}（big）problem of all was the pronunciation. I found {#blank#}7{#/blank#}was very difficult to pronounce some letters in Spanish, especially r and j. So I had to download {#blank#}8{#/blank#}（sentence）onto my phone and I listened and practised them again and again. 

A month later I went to Spain. A Spanish teacher {#blank#}9{#/blank#}（call）Paula came and began the test. "Will I survive?" I wasn't sure enough but {#blank#}10{#/blank#}I wished I would!

Jean Paul Getty was born in 1892 in Minneapolis，Minnesota. He became a millionaire when he was only 24. His father was wealthy, but he did not help his son. Getty made his millions alone. He made his money from oil. He owned Getty Oil and over 100 other companies. A famous magazine on economy once called Getty "the richest man in the world.

But money ____    ____. He married five times and divorced(离婚) five times. He had five children but spent little time with them. None of Getty's children had very happy lives.

Getty loved to make money and loved to save it. Although he was very rich, he was still very mean. Every evening, he wrote down every cent he spent that day. He even put telephones in the guest' s bedrooms in his house, so he could save money on phone bills.

In 1973, kidnappers (绑匪) took his 16-year-old grandson for a large amount of money. Getty' s son asked his father for money to save his child, but Getty refused. The kidnappers were cruel and Getty' s son made repeated requests for help from his father. Finally, Getty agreed to lend him $1,000,000, but he needed an extra $50,000 more in return.

Getty started a museum at his home Malibu，California. He bought many important and beautiful pieces of art for the museum. When Getty died in 1976, the value of the collection in the museum was $1 billion. He left all his money to the museum. After his death, the museum grew in size. Today it is one of the most important museums in the United States. Getty made a lot of money in his life, but he gave all his money to the art world because he wanted people to learn about art and love it.

Hi there. I'm now in China. I will bike around the country. It won't be easy because China is so big! It is a beautiful and interesting place. I just want to see it with my own eyes. Good luck（好运） to me!

It is very hot today. I didn't have enough water for me. I went to a house by the road for help. I couldn't speak any Chinese, but they understood! They gave me some water. To my surprise, they also asked me to stay for lunch. The food was so good!I love the special taste of China! How lucky（幸运的）I am!

Thursday 13 April

I am in Yunnan Province now. It's the Water- splashing Festival（泼水节）! People get together to celebrate（庆祝） the Dai New Year. They splash water on each other. To them, this will bring good luck to others. I get very wet. How lucky I am!

The past Chinese diver (跳水运动员) Guo Jingjing appeared at the Paris Olympics this summer, but this time, she was there in a new role - as the chief referee (裁判长). 

Born in 1981, Guo Jingjing started diving at the age of 7. She practiced hard and quickly became very good at it. In 1993, she joined China's national diving team. Guo got hurt many times, but she never gave up. She got the title of world champion (冠军) 31 times in all. She also won 4 Olympic gold medals. 

Guo stopped diving at the age of 30, but she still wanted to do something for China's diving team. She decided to become a referee. After years of hard work, she finally made it. When she appeared at the Paris Olympics, everyone was excited. "I will try my best to make sure that the diving competitions are fair (公平的)" she said. Guo Jingjing would like to help others as long as she has time. She once helped poor children in villages go to school and live a better life. 

In short, Guo Jingjing is a very special person. She sets a great example for young people who want to be divers or just want to work hard at something they love. 

I was in the classroom. This was 1 first lesson in junior high school. It was 2 . I used to feel bored in Chinese classes, so I hoped my new Chinese teacher would be 3 . 

Here came a woman teacher. She 4 " Li" on the blackboard. "This is my family name, " she 5 . "You can call me Ms Li. Now tell me what you want me to do in my lessons. " We were surprised. 6 could a student ask a teacher to do things? Everyone was in silence(沉默). 

Ms Li smiled and said, "Don't be 7 . Just tell me what you really want to say about our Chinese 8 . I will try my best to meet all the needs of 9 . " Hearing what she said, we were excited and started to say our needs 10 worries. "Not too much 11 ";"Finish class on time";"Make the class fun". We talked a lot and Ms Li didn't stop us. 

When we finished, Ms Li said, "First, you will not have much homework, but you should 12 it on time. Second, my classes will be fun, 13 you can't play too much. Third, I will finish class on time. But you must 14 me carefully(认真地) in class. All right?""OK!" all of us answered happily. 

I think Chinese is very useful in our life, so it is really 15 to learn Chinese well. I'm sure our Chinese classes will have a lot of fun because of this interesting teacher. I may never get bored with Chinese classes.
