My name is Peter. I was born in Paris. When I was three, my family moved to London. We stayed there for one year then my dad had to move to New York. We spent about two years there. I moved to Shanghai last May and I like the new country very much.

    I study at an international school in Shanghai. There are people from nearly all parts of the world. I like my school very much and I can learn many things. I love learning Chinese and keep practising it with my classmates. After school, my favourite sport is football. I like drawing and painting, too.

    Shanghai has four seasons and l like spring best here, because I can go out in the evening and play with my friends. In my hometown, the summers are hotter than Shanghai but the winters are not so cold as they are here.

    Shanghai is like a small world where all kinds of people and food can be seen. I like being part of it and I am very happy to stay here.

Helen Keller was both blind and deaf. 1 she couldn't see or hear, she still became a skilled writer and speaker.

Keller was born on June 27, 1880, in Tuscumbia, Alabama. When she was 19 months old, she became very 2 and the illness made her unable to see or hear.

When Keller was 6, she got a teacher named Anne Sullivan. Sullivan used Keller's sense of 3 to teach her. She handed Keller a doll. Then she wrote the letters of the word "doll" on Keller's hand so that Keller can 4 the connection between the letters and the object she was holding. Then she learned that things had names.

With Sullivan's help, Helen made progress 5 . Soon she could 6 sentences by feeling raised words. A few years later she learned Braille (盲文), which helped her read more and learn more.

Even though learning to speak was a bigger challenge, Keller decided to face it bravely 7 giving up. Keller 8 to do it by touching the mouth and throat of a person who was speaking. In that way she could feel the way the mouth and throat moved and then she learned to speak.

Ruth Wakefield was a cook. In the 1930s, she and her husband had the famous Toll House restaurant in Massachusetts. People loved the restaurant because of the delicious food, especially Ruth's desserts(甜点). 

Ruth was good at cooking. She could taste a dish and make it without a recipe(配方). She loved trying new things and often traveled to different countries to taste new foods. After travelling, she wanted to create(创造) a new kind of cookie. 

One day, Ruth had an idea to use chocolate in a different way. She decided to break it into pieces and mix it into cookie dough(面团). After many tries, she finally created the chocolate chip cookie, which sold well at the restaurant. People loved it very much and they asked for the recipe to make it at home. 

     ▲      . People had to break chocolate bars into small pieces, and it took a lot of time. Ruth's daughter remembered her mother's hands turning red from cutting chocolate when making cookies for the restaurant. But her mother still enjoyed doing it. 

Ruth's cookie became famous, so a radio show invited her to talk about it. And later the recipe was even in the newspaper. Because of Ruth, chocolate chip cookies became a popular snack for many people. Some companies started making their own chocolate chips and cookies and put the Toll House name and Ruth's recipe on bags of chocolate chips and cookies. The next time you enjoy a chocolate chip cookie, remember Ruth Wakefield and her love for cooking and creating with new tastes. 

 Don't view people like me as dinosaurs. Yes, we are living in the Information Age, but I have no 1 in saying I can't give up newspapers. Every morning,I read The Seattle Times, The New York Times and USA Today.

I used newspapers to 2 my kids. No, I am not joking. During my eldest son's teenage years, he wouldn't 3 me no matter what I said or how I said it. So I used newspapers. "4 you don' t believe me, just read the paper," I would say. I 5 for my kids any good story with life lessons. I made my 6 through words in black and white. The printed words worked like7 . Immediately, there were no more disagreements or8 .

 Reading newspapers opened my kids' minds in 9 areas. There were, of course, areas I had no knowledge of or things that would never cross my mind to teach. I was10 that my kids, at a young age, understood very complex(复杂的) problems. Every day, they could find reliable stories 11 many different topics in newspapers.

 But newspapers are not only for kids; they are for adults, too. My 85-year-old aunt never finished primary school.12 , she always enjoys reading newspapers and learns a lot every day. "13 did you know that?" I would ask her when she would throw one14 scientific discovery at me. "I read about it in the newspaper," she would always reply.

 We are in the Information Age, but I believe newspapers 15 play an important role in" educating" people of all ages.
