Last summer, I went to Yunnan on vacation. Let me tell you about my trip there. 

Yunnan is in the south of our country. It is really a very beautiful place with high mountains, clean rivers and friendly people. Trees and flowers are 1 . Every year, a lot of 2 spend their holidays in Yunnan. 

On the 3 day, I visited the Stone Forest (石林). There are different kinds of stones. Of all the stones, the stone which 4 a beautiful girl named Ashima is the most famous. I took a lot of photos that day. I went to Lijiang on the second day. A river runs 5 the whole town. The river can help you know 6 you are and how to get to different places. If you don't go along the river, 7 you will get lost. I really enjoyed walking around the town. There I saw many buildings. Some of them are new, but some of them are very old. I 8 what life was like there in the past. On the third day, I went to Kunming Zoo. In the zoo, I saw some cute animals, such as elephants, monkeys and peacocks (孔雀). In the evening, I tried Yunnan Cross-Bridge Rice Noodles for dinner. They were really 9 ! I liked them very much.

A Brave Young Man

It was a nice day last Saturday. Jack {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(sit) by the river when a little boy played nearby (在附近). Suddenly, Jack heard someone {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(shout) for help. He looked around {#blank#}3{#/blank#} found that the little boy was in the water. It was very {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (danger). Thus, Jack jumped {#blank#}5{#/blank#} the river without thinking twice. He was trying {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(he) best to pull the boy out of the river when other people came {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(offer) help. Finally, they saved the boy and the boy {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(thank) Jack a lot. Jack was so brave {#blank#}9{#/blank#} people all praised (赞扬) him. Jack just said, "It's the least I can do. My mother always tells me that I should help others {#blank#}10{#/blank#} they are in need." He is such a brave young man!

Zhang Daqian was born in 1899 in Sichuan. He came from an art-loving family His mother first taught him painting. He copied lots of great paintings he could see. Shitao and Bada Sbanren influenced him a lot. In the early 1940s, Zhang studied the Buddhist wall paintings in Dunhuang for two years. This was important for his art growth. 

Zhang's works are famous for his many painting styles. He could paint detailed portraits(肖像). He was creative and had his own style, but his art was based on Chinese tradition. People like his later works, especially his lively splashed-ink landscapes. 

When Zhang was old, he mastered the art of "painting from heart to hand". In 1971, he chose this phrase for a stamp. This phrase has two meanings. First, Zhang was proud that he could paint nature's different things with various styles. He got this ability by copying old masters' works, making his art combine many historical styles. He also traveled a lot, which gave him more life experience to paint the world's beauty. Second, the phrase shows Zhang's belief that an artist should follow his heart to show "spirit harmony". This is an old idea about Chinese painting beauty Before painting, Zhang knew what he wanted to paint and what feeling he wanted to show. He knew how to amaze people with his paintings. 

Zhang lived a long life and died at 83 in 1983. He was energetic. He painted many paintings in his life, about 500 per year on average. 

In 2011, Zhang became the most popular Chinese artist at auction(拍卖会), more popular than Pablo Picasso. People still want his works very much. 

At 23 years old, Li Runfeng, a graduate ( 毕业生) from Tsinghua University, started a special journey {#blank#}1{#/blank#}a volunteer English teacher at Nanjian No. l Middle School in Yunnan Province. Li wanted to make a(n) {#blank#}2{#/blank#}( different) in the education of students in the village. But she had to face many challenges. The students there had poor basic ( 基 础 的 ) education. They showed little interest in study, {#blank#}3{#/blank#}( especial) in subjects like English or Chinese. 

Li did not let these challenges stop her. She {#blank#}4{#/blank#}( think) of creative ways to make her lessons interesting. She taught the students about famous writers from around the world and organized fun group {#blank#}5{#/blank#}( activity) for them. She even asked her students to call her English name Rofia to make them feel more comfortable speaking English. Through her hard work, Li became very close to her students, and the students became more){#blank#}6{#/blank#}( excite) about learning. Li felt encouraged by her friends and teachers, and the words of President Xi Jinping at a meeting at Tsinghua University. All these kept her{#blank#}7{#/blank#}( go). 

Now, Li is {#blank#}8{#/blank#}experienced teacher. And she has won the trust of the students and {#blank#}9{#/blank#}( they) parents. She believes in the power( 力 量 ) of education to bring out the best in every student. She understands her students' love for their hometown while she also encourages them {#blank#}10{#/blank#}( dream) big for the future and work hard for their dreams. 

Tommy loved ice cream. It was his favorite dessert. His parents let him have a small dish each night after dinner, if he ate all of his vegetables. Tommy loved eating ice cream at home. He always tried a new kind of ice cream each time. When he turned eight, he had a checkup at the doctor's office. Dr. Katz said, "It's fine to have a little ice cream once in a while, but not every night."

That night at supper, Tommy ate all his vegetables. But there was no ice cream for dessert. Instead, Mom came up with a new rule.

"If we want to eat ice cream, we'll have to earn it by walking to the ice cream stand," she said. Tommy would like to give it a try, so they decided to take their walk on Saturday afternoon. According to the map, the ice cream stand was a mile away.

Saturday was a sunny day. The sun was so bright that he had to almost close his eyes. Tommy asked, "How much farther is it?" Mom checked the map on her phone and then said, "We're not even halfway yet. Do you want to turn around?" Tommy did want to turn around, but he also wanted ice cream. Walking was the only way to get it.

The sun beat down so strongly that even Mom was sweating （流汗）. Tommy's legs felt heavy. He wanted to sit down, but there were no chairs. He wanted to give up. He looked up to tell Mom he was ready to turn around. But when he did, he could see the purple flag at the top of the ice cream stand. They were almost there! Tommy started to walk faster. He could almost taste the cool, creamy ice cream already. It was a long walk, but it was certainly worth the effort.
