Sam is my new classmate. He is 1 American boy. He is from New York. He is thirteen.

    Sam often gets up at about 6: 30 on2. And he often 3 a cup of tea, an egg and some bread for his breakfast. Then he goes to school at 7: 30 a.m. and gets there 4 8: 00 a.m. . They have four classes in the morning and two in the 5. At 3: 50 p.m. they play games. He studies hard and studies 6. He likes English and is good at it. He teaches us 7 and we teach him Chinese. He can speak a little Chinese now, but not 8 . Mike is his good friend. They go home together(一起). He does 9 homework at home, but sometimes at school. On Saturday and Sunday, he likes 10 football games on TV. He often goes to bed at about nine.

    As darkness fell, hundreds of people in the Swiss village left their houses. They were staring（凝视）1at the mountain top in the distance. It was covered with 2 beautiful and dangerous.

    The huge mountain is called Matterhorn. Mountain climbers had 3the top, using the southern route. But no one had ever dared（敢）to try a winter climbing up the 4 side. But now one man was daring to try the 5route. He was Walter Bonatti, a great mountain climber from Italy.

    For two days he had climbed. The village people had watched him anxiously(焦急地). Now they were waiting to see his signal（信号）. If he planned to 6 the next day, he would light a green signal. A red light would mean that he was turning back.

    A tiny green light7 high on the mountain side. Bonatti was not giving up! The people8.

    The next day he continued his way upward. He was so lonely and so 9! But he would not give up. Again that night he lit the10 light.

    In the morning, Bonatti 11. He couldn't see the top, but he knew he was 12 there. Though the climb was painful, he moved up.

    Bonatti had spent months13 for the climb. Was the training enough? Did he have the strength and skill to climb to the top?

     He was finally at the top! News about his 14 was radioed to the world.

    The trip down the southern route was easy. He was warmly welcomed in the village. He had done the"15", and would be well remembered as a climber of all time.

A little turtle (乌龟) is climbing a tree. It is very 1 for him to do so. But he does his best to 2 . After a few hours, he gets to the 3 .

Then, he jumps into the air. He flaps(拍打) his front 4 . But in the end, he 5 to the ground (地面). He is badly hurt(受伤). 

A few days later, the little turtle feels much 6 . He slowly climbs up the tree again,  7 , and falls to the ground once more. 

The turtle tries again and again. At the same time, two birds are sitting in another 8 . They are watching this little turtle. Both of them feel 9 for the little turtle. 

Finally, one 10 says to the other, " Dear, I think it's time to tell our little turtle that he's adopted(被收养的). "

 Don't view people like me as dinosaurs. Yes, we are living in the Information Age, but I have no 1 in saying I can't give up newspapers. Every morning,I read The Seattle Times, The New York Times and USA Today.

I used newspapers to 2 my kids. No, I am not joking. During my eldest son's teenage years, he wouldn't 3 me no matter what I said or how I said it. So I used newspapers. "4 you don' t believe me, just read the paper," I would say. I 5 for my kids any good story with life lessons. I made my 6 through words in black and white. The printed words worked like7 . Immediately, there were no more disagreements or8 .

 Reading newspapers opened my kids' minds in 9 areas. There were, of course, areas I had no knowledge of or things that would never cross my mind to teach. I was10 that my kids, at a young age, understood very complex(复杂的) problems. Every day, they could find reliable stories 11 many different topics in newspapers.

 But newspapers are not only for kids; they are for adults, too. My 85-year-old aunt never finished primary school.12 , she always enjoys reading newspapers and learns a lot every day. "13 did you know that?" I would ask her when she would throw one14 scientific discovery at me. "I read about it in the newspaper," she would always reply.

 We are in the Information Age, but I believe newspapers 15 play an important role in" educating" people of all ages.
