Sometimes, I doubt(怀疑) whether there is any love between my parents. Every day they are busy trying to 1 money. They don't act in the romantic(浪漫的) ways that I read in books or I see on TV. They never say, “I love you”. My father has a bad temper(性情, 脾气), and it is 2 for him to be angry in his daily life.

    One day, my mother was sewing a quilt (缝被子). I sat down beside her.

    “Mom, I have a question to ask you.” I said after a while.

    “What?” she asked, still working.

    “Is there 3 between you and Dad?” I asked her 4 a very low voice.

    My mother stopped her work and 5 her head with surprise in her eyes. She didn't answer immediately. Then she bowed(低下) her head and went on sewing(缝).

    I thought I had hurt her. At last my mother said: “Susan, look at this thread(线). Sometimes it appears, but most of the time, it disappears in the quilt. It makes the quilt 6 . If life is a quilt, then love should be a thread. It can hardly be seen anywhere 7 it's really there.”

    I listened carefully but I didn't understand her 8 the next spring. My father suddenly got sick. My mother had to stay with him in the 9 for a month.

    After they got back, she helped my father walk slowly down the road every day. My father had never been so weak. “Dad, how are you feeling now?” I asked him one day.

    “Susan, don't worry about me.” he said gently. “I just like 10 with your mom.”

    Once I thought love meant flowers, gifts and sweet kisses. Now, I know that love is the thread that holds a family together.

    When Jane was a little girl, she liked keeping pets. She had many books about animals and there were many pictures and stamps on the walls of her bedroom. She often said that she would work in a 1 when she grew up.

    Most of Jane's pets were quite small — parrots, cats, dogs and so on. But one day she met something quite 2 .

    That afternoon, Jane's mother was surprised to see a big animal with long hair in the kitchen. He 3  a T-shirt and was sitting on a chair, trying to put on a pair of glasses and making faces at her. In front of him, on the table, were a basket of fruits and a glass of water. “Jane, where are you?” the mother shouted. Then suddenly she remembered that a few days before a young gorilla (大猩猩) called Gor had run away from the zoo.

    “I found him in the city square,” Jane said. “He seemed so lonely. I talked to him. We became friends at once and he followed me 4 .”

    “Well, you know you 5  keep him,” her mother said. “You must send him back to the zoo. You'd better phone the police.”

    Soon a 6  came and also a truck from the zoo. 7  was angry with Jane when she told her story. The policeman knew Jane loved animals. And the zookeeper said, “Thank you for your kindness (好意). I can see Gor likes you, 8  we need him back.” Jane agreed. She hugged Gor and said that she would go and see him 9 .

    These days Jane has stopped collecting 10 , but you can still find her with her friend Gor at the zoo on Saturdays and Sundays!

    One evening, an old lady went shopping in the supermarket. She{#blank#}1{#/blank#}lots of toys for her grandson, including a knife. When she came back to her car, she found a man with red hair staring the car and{#blank#}2{#/blank#}two sitting at the back. She was surprised. She realized that they would drive her car away. Then she took out the toy knife{#blank#}3{#/blank#}thinking and pointed at the men in the car. "Get out of the car" She shouted {#blank#}4{#/blank#}. The men in the car got so scared that they ran away quickly. The lady made sure {#blank#}5{#/blank#} all the men had gone. Then she took out the key to start the car. To her{#blank#}6{#/blank#} , she couldn't. She tried again and again and finally she knew {#blank#}7{#/blank#} —it wasn't her car! She looked around and saw her {#blank#}8{#/blank#} car not far away. When she came back to her car, she saw the men {#blank#}9{#/blank#}to her with a policeman. She thought it was time for her to tell the {#blank#}10{#/blank#}and make it clear. After hearing her story, the policeman began to laugh. Her face turned red.

    One night a man came to my house. He told me. "There is a family with eight 1. They don't have anything to eat." After I asked him where the family was. I took some 2 with me and left.

    When I finally got to that family, I 3 those little children were so hungry that they could not 4 anything. There was no sadness in their eyes, just the deep pain of hunger. I gave the food to the mother. She took half of it, and then went out. When she 5, I asked her, "Where did you go?" She gave me this simple 6, "To my neighbours'. They are also 7!"

    I was not surprised that she gave the food to others, because poor people are always very 8. But I was surprised that she knew her 9 were hungry when she was also in need of food. Usually, when we are in trouble or in danger, we always 10 ourselves first, and we have no time for others.

Saturday, June 16^th

    In the morning, we went camping along a path in Green Natural Park. We were happy because it was a 1 day. We were expecting an enjoyable two-day holiday. On the way, we kept singing and making jokes.

    However, in the afternoon, when we finished our2 at one o'clock, it was dark and windy. Soon, there was a shower. Unluckily, none of us brought 3. We ran about but we could find no place to hide.

    Twenty minutes passed and it was still raining. There were 4 to go before we reached the campsite（营地）. It was even worse that our small compass（指南针） showed that we went to the wrong way. We had 5!

    We had to make a quick 6 as it was raining heavily. Chris said we could set up a tent to hide in, so Mary and Tom helped to set up the tent. Chris and I tried to make a fire to keep us7. But we were unable to light the fire, as everything was 8. We dried ourselves, chatted and waited inside the tent. At about five o'clock, it stopped raining. We decided to 9 the camping trip because all of us had been very tired.

    This camping trip may not be very 10 but we know each other better. And the most important thing I've learned from this trip is the importance of team spirit.
