Tom is a young man. He eats and sleeps a lot,1works a little. He doesn't like to learn, so he 2little. He can't do any difficult work, so he has to look 3 an easy job. One day he finds a job on a farm. When it's work time, he always says he's tired and4So he gets less money than the others.5 is coming. The workers are getting ready for the next year. Only Tom does 6. The farmer tells him to cut down trees in the forest. The young man goes there with a 7. He feels terrible in the forest and 8 about the animals. So he looks around and sings loudly. Nobody knows 9 he's singing.

    After three days, Tom hasn't cut down any trees. The farmer wants to find out how the young man is doing. He's 10 when he finds Tom sitting on the chair, cutting the tree. “Why are you sitting here to cut the tree?” asks the farmer. “Because I can't work if I am lying(躺)down, sir.”

A group of children gathered (聚集) around their grandfather. They were filled with excitement and curiosity(好奇). That day, there had been quite a fierce(激烈的) fight between two adults, their grandfather was called in to mediate. The children were curious to hear what he had to say about it. One of the children asked a question to the grandfather that was puzzling(使困惑) him.

"Grandfather, why do people fight?"

The old man replied," Well, do you know, my child, we all have two wolves inside us? They are in our chest(胸膛)…and these wolves are fighting each other at times."

The eyes of the children had grown big by now.

"In our chests too, Grandfather?" asked another child. The grandfather nodded his head and said," Yes."

"And in your chest too?" asked a third one. The grandfather replied," Yes, in my chest too."

The grandfather surely had all the children's attention now, and went on," There is a white wolf and a black wolf. The black wolf inside us is filled with fear, lies, anger and sadness. The white wolf is filled with peace, love, hope and kindness. And do you know there is always a terrible fight between the two wolves?"

Then he stopped. There was complete silence and all the children were looking toward him.Finally, the grandson who asked the first question could not wait anymore and broke the silence," ButGrandfather, which wolf wins?"

The old man smiled and replied," That's simple... the one we feed more."

Lake Baikal (贝加尔湖)  is the largest,  deepest freshwater lake in the world.Every winter when the lake freezes over (冻结)  for half the year, 80 -year- old Lyubov skates across the ice wherever she needs to go.

Lyubov has been using the ice to travel around her home for her whole life.As a child, she skated about 2.5 miles each way to school and back.She once fell through the ice and was luckily saved by her classmates.

Lyubov lives alone now in a small house on the bank of Lake Baikal.Her children and five grandchildren don't often visit her because they live five hours away by car.She has to look on a group of dogs, cows and chickens as her friends.Luckily, she has the ice to help her feel free！"For me, ice means being able to go everywhere," the grandmother said.

Every day, she skates half an hour to other villages to do her shopping.With temperatures often reaching -40 ℃  , it' s hard for an old woman to live a normal life.But Lyubov says that her everyday skating enables her to live a long and energetic life. " People keep telling me 1 should slow down, but I just can't , " she said with a smile." I don't have time to be bored; there' s too much work to do."

 Ava had been out of school for a long time because of the holiday break. School was just two days away. She was 1 about all the new things she had to learn and the new friends she had to make.

 Ava's mum saw her change and 2 what was wrong. Ava told her mum about her mood. Her mum had a(n)3 . She could bring her stuffed bear(毛绒熊) Teddy with her to school.

 On the first day of school, Ava put Teddy in her 4 and headed off to school. After getting into the classroom, she was a little nervous. Then she 5 Teddy. She took him out of her backpack and hugged(拥抱) him,6 soon she felt a lot better.

Throughout the day, Ava held Teddy whenever she felt worried. Teddy always made her feel better.

 One day, Ava saw another child playing with a stuffed dog. He was Lucas, and Bingo was the dog's name. Lucas said Bingo helped 7 feel calm and brave, just like Teddy did for Ava. The two 8 playing together, and they became good friends.

9 Teddy and Bingo, Ava and Lucas made new friends and felt more confident and comfortable at school. They even started the Stuff Animal Club to10 those like them.
