In many western schools, sports day is a big event. Children take part in competitive (竞争性的)sports and try to break school records and take the first place.

    Sports days, or sports meetings, are usually held in the warmer seasons, either at the beginning or the end of the school year. They are also called field days. Primary school sports days are fun. They usually have activities such as the egg and the spoon race and the sack race. Other events include the skipping race (跳绳) and the three-legged race. In middle and high schools, sports days include many of the common track and field events (田径项目).  They are more serious and competitive than primary school ones.

    Students' parents and other relatives also come to the  school on sports days. They watch children play. Many schools in the West have "mothers and fathers" races for parents to take part in!

    Although sports days are exciting, they also have some problems. According to some reports in the USA, sports days have become too competitive to be good for students. Some parents put too much pressure on the children. Some schools don't have "mothers and fathers" races any more as there is much fighting and cheating.

    Peter, Jack, Sam, Bob and John are on our school basketball team. It is one of the most popular teams in our city. Next Sunday, they're going to play against(同……比赛) No. 20 Middle School basketball players. Let me introduce(介绍)the five players.

    ①萨姆是最瘦的,但却是跑得最快的。Peter is the tallest. He can jump the highest, too. ②He can throw the ball into the basket easily. Bob is a new player, but he is also a great player. Of the five boys, Jack is the best player. In the last basketball match, he got twenty points for his team. John is the heaviest. He is 65kg. ③He runs slower than any other boy. But be is good at stopping the players of the other team from getting near the basket. They're a strong team. Are they going to win? Let's wait and see!

    Do you like to eat noodles? Come to Mr. White's Restaurant.     It's important for each of us to be healthy and happy. Do you want to improve (改善) your health and feel better? Here are some ways.

    Eat whole foods. Eat some healthy foods, such as fruits, vegetables, nuts and a little meat. If you have a healthy eating habit, you'll be happier.

    Exercise. Take up a sport you really like. If you want to keep healthy, try to exercise for 30 minutes a day, twice or three times a week.

    Get enough sleep. It is best to get eight hours' sleep a day. A cup of milk before sleeping may help you get a good sleep.

    Keep yourself busy. This is very good because it stops you from having bad habits. To keep yourself busy, you can walk around the house, spend time with your pets, do sports, or do a hobby you enjoy.

    Spend time with your friends. Spend time and have fun with them. Talk with them. But you shouldn't talk about anything bad. You should stay with the people who are healthy and happy.

How to be a better student

    Maybe you are a common student. You probably think you will never be a top student. This is not necessary so, however. Anyone can become a better student if he or she wants to. Here's how:

    When you plan your week, you should make a list of things that you have to do. After making this list, you should make a schedule of your time. First set your time for eating, sleeping, dressing, etc. Then decide a good, regular time for studying. Don't forget to set aside enough time for entertainment. A weekly schedule may not solve all your problems, but it will force you to realize what is happening to your time.

    Look around the house for a good study area. Keep this space, which may be a desk or simply a corner of your room, free of everything but study materials. No games, radios, or televisions! When you sit down to study, concentrate on the subject.
