I went to Grand Canyon (大峡谷) National Park in July 2012 for the firsttime and I knew I wanted to work there as a park ranger（管理员）. Park rangers protect the park's animals, plants, land, buildings, andpeople.

Now, as a park ranger forGrand Canyon National Park, I share the science, history and beauty of this parkwith thousands of visitors from around the world.

National parks are like outdoormuseums. Park rangers have all kinds of jobs, depending on where they work and whatthey studied during college. I teach school field trips（实地考察）, work at visitor centers and helppeople stay safe during their visit.

My favorite part of my jobis showing children their first look at the Grand Canyon during school field trips.Children are often amazed at the canyon's size and colors. Sometimes, they thinkit looks like a painting.

Being a park ranger requiresa lot of energy. I walk several miles and talk with hundreds of people each day.Park rangers must enjoy working with people and speaking in front of groups. Nearly5 million people visit Grand Canyon National Park every year.

Park rangers must also beprepared for any situation. Recently, I broke a traffic jam(堵塞). It was caused by a huge elk（麋鹿）standing in the road. Elks can become dangerous when they get scared,so I asked visitors to stop their cars and take pictures from far away. Believeit or not, I also help protect people from monkeys. It is not allowed to feed animalsin national parks. But sometimes, visitors try to feed monkeys.

Hi, I'm Nancy. On September 9, 2010, I was told that I had a new baby sister. I had a selfish thought at that moment—Mom and Dad are going to be with the baby all the time and buy her all kinds of toys. I will get half as much love from them as before. 

A few days later doctors told my parents that my sister had hearing problems. 

We made several trips to a famous hearing center, but the treatments didn't work, so my family began learning sign language. Actually, here my family only refer to my parents and sister, not me. My parents spent hours with my sister teaching her and themselves by playing sign language games. But I didn't want to learn with them. I did my own things every day. 

Years passed. The summer before the ninth grade, as my parents had to work, it was up to me to take care of my sister. This meant sending her to summer school in the morning, playing with her after finishing our homework and cooking delicious food for her. 

One day my mother asked me to sign something, and I failed. My mom was sad about it. This hit me hard and I came to realize how selfish I was. I needed to talk to my sister. But I couldn't even sign the easiest sentences like "Where are you going?" or "What do you want to eat?"

It was at that time that I started to go to sign language classes with my family. We sat down watching sign language movies and playing sign language games. 

Today I can communicate well with my sister. It brings a smile to my face when my sister signs something to me about my friends, and they can't understand. I realized it was no fun not knowing what my family was saying. 

So, if you have a family member with special needs, don't leave her or him alone. This person should be the first thing on your mind. For me, signing now comes before school, friends and sports, because it is the language of my family!

The Spring Festival is one of the most important holidays in China. Last year,I had the chance (机会) to1 it with a family of one of my dear Chinese friends in a little town in China's Guizhou Province. The2 was interesting. 

Before my arrival, my friend's family had cleaned their whole house,and done their shopping. They were very hospitable. My friend showed me around the town every day. 

On the New Year's Eve,I enjoyed a big meal with my friend's family. We watched a(n)3 show on TV. As I 4 understand Chinese well,the time seemed to pass very slowly. When midnight came,everyone in the house shouted in5 . 

Every morning in the following days,I6 for the sounds of firecrackers (鞭炮) as early as 5 a. m. My friend told me that people were chasing off evil spirits (赶走邪灵). He took me to visit 7 relatives during the day. We were usually invited to stay for dinner. We once happened to see a lion dance on the street. Every business owner was happy if the "lions" stopped by their shop 8 that usually means good luck will come. 

Before I left,my friend's parents handed me a red envelope with some money in it. His father said it was to9 me on the road，bring me good luck and wish me a happy new year. It felt like I was part of the10 ,though I couldn't chat (聊天) with the parents at all. 

As we know, many people want to learn Chinese well. A big family from the US is among (在……中间) them.

Lucy Brown lives in New York with her family. She is fifty-nine years old and has four daughters. They are from 13 to 20 years old.

Lucy loves Chinese history very much and she asks all of her daughters to learn Chinese. "Chinese is not easy to learn, so I ask all my daughters to learn it at an early age (在小时候). China is great and I think learning Chinese can help them to know about China well," says Lucy. Every day, Lucy and her daughters listen to Chinese music and read Chinese books. She also asks them to go to bilingual (双语的) schools, so they can learn Chinese. Lucy is proud of her daughters because they can do well in Chinese now. And they all like making friends with people from China.

Lucy's daughters think Lucy is a "tiger mom", because she asks them to learn Chinese for many hours every day. But Lucy says, "I'm sure some day they will thank me for this."

My grandma is a kind woman. She is 65 years old. In her free time, she 1 making dumplings(饺子) for us.

On weekends, I often go over to my 2 house to have dumplings. Grandma welcomes me with a big smile 3 cooks dumplings for me. I eat 4 every time!

Sometimes I make dumplings with 5 , too. First, we get the ingredients(原料) ready.Then Grandma shows me 6 to make dumplings. It is not 7 easy job to make dumplings. Grandma tells me 8 dumplings with love.

When the dumplings are ready, we put them 9 the bowls(碗). They are yummy, and I can 10 the love in every dumpling.

Making dumplings with Grandma is not only about cooking, but also about love.

"Good morning, Grandma! What are these on the bed?" Frank asks. "They are your old 1 . I want to sell them to the old clothes store." Grandma says.

"May I have a look? They might still (仍然) be right for me. Wow! A T-shirt! Oh, no! It's so small. It is 2 my grandpa. There are some sports things on it, like volleyballs, tennis bats and 3 . What about the sports trousers? My uncle bought them for 4 . They look cool but they're too short. Well, let me 5 my sports socks. I am very happy to get them on New Year's Day."

"Yes, but they're 6 , too."

"Why do I grow (成长) so quickly (快地)? I love these clothes, 7 they're not right for me. OK, you can take them."

After a while, Grandma comes back. "Guess what? They are right for someone."

"8 ? Grandma?" Frank asks.

"Next to the old clothes store, I meet two young 9 like you. Their houses are flooded (被淹没). They 10 some clothes."

"OK, Grandma. Let's give the clothes to them."
