It is almost five years since I begin to learn English.I'm glad to say I'm getting along good with it.But first I came across a lot of difficulties.I couldn't pronounce English words well,so could I remember the words I had learned.In class,I couldn't understand that the teacher had said.I almost lost heart when the teacher told me,"Keeping on,and you'll do well." I was great encouraged.I started working hard at English.Under the help of him and my classmates,I made some progresses.I'm very pleasing,and I will work harder.

I'm standing on Rio's beach, one of the most famous 1 of sand. In this lively, multicultural country, the beach is not just a place;it's a state of mind—a way of thinking and living. 

Every Brazilian has his or her own ideas of the perfect beach, 2 to tell you where to find it. I'm happy to take their advice but my ultimate goal is to find my own dream beach. First, I go to Prainha's beach 3 by a row of perfect palm trees, moving softly in the ocean breeze. Its beauty is magnificent-its perfect graceful lines are like something in a 4 . But for me, it's somewhat too perfect. I am searching for something a bit 5 . 

I continue my search heading north to a legendary beach: Jeri. As an international destination, it attracts visitors from Tokyo to Toronto. Luckily, Jeri hasn't been 6 by tourists mostly because of its isolated(偏远的)location—at least five hours from any airport. I take a beach buggy(沙地车), driving for three hours. The boats lie on their sides while nets 7 to dry on lines between fishermen's houses. Peaceful and beautiful! How can it possibly get any better? I 8 .

On her 71st birthday in July, Sajean Geer went to spread her husband's ashes near Obstruction Point, inside Olympic National Park.

When she finished, she realised she had got 1 . Geer became worried. Though an experienced hiker, she wasn't prepared to be in the park for such a(n) 2 period of time. She only had her 3 

with her. She had a cellphone, but there is no signal. And worst of all, she hadn't told anyone where she was going because she hadn't 4 to be gone for long.

She thanked me so much for just stopping! Since then, when we run into each other {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (occasional) on campus, she would smile and thank me again. And we have become good friends now. I am amazed that just my sitting there, {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (offer) support and comfort to a total {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(strange) would affect her so greatly. She said she was grateful for what I had done, {#blank#}10{#/blank#} made her feel that she was not alone in the world.

Heman Bekele was not a typical high school student. 1 . spending his free time playing video games, this 14-year-old was conducting experiments. His goal was to create a 2 . that could treat skin cancer, and make it affordable for everyone who 3 . it.

Growing up in Ethiopia, Africa, Heman 4 . saw people getting sunburned by the hot sun working outside. He didn't 5 much of it when he was really little, but as he 6 . he realized how serious skin cancer really was.

Skin cancer does have cures and it is 7 in most cases. However, the average 8 of skin cancer treatment is almost $40,000. When hearing the shocking 9 , Heman planned to create a more 10 and accessible solution. He started doing experiments and working on different things, which turned into his bar of soap as a project.

His 11 won him the prize in this year's 3M Young Scientis's Challenge, a competition that 12 kids to think of unique ways to solve everyday problems. Heman was so surprised and 13 when he first heard the news of his award. "It's 14 to see that my ideas can be 15 and seen by the science community." he said.

Edmond was a school bus driver for 22 years. One morning, the rain pouring down, he and the bus monitor Valentine were called to1 a student who missed the bus. What2 them was that the student didn't turn up when they reached the specified place.

Edmond and Valentine didn't expect they had a larger3 to achieve. Just around the corner, they found two children4 in the rushing floodwaters. The boy and the girl were struggling to hold onto a5 to avoid being swept away.
