An Art Class

When Kelly was twelve, she started taking classes at Miss Grace's School for Art. She didn't like it at first: the "novice artists"-the kids who hadn't really done art before-worked mostly with clay, and Kelly was a terrible sculptor. 

It wasn't until her third year that Kelly found something she was really good at-charcoal drawing （素描）. She loved watching the lines spread unevenly across the page as she moved the bits of charcoal back and forth over the paper. 

One day, Sophia. the best artist in her class, sat down and set up her easel （画架） next to Kelly. Kelly felt a sinking feeling in her stomach. She'd. actually found an art form that she enjoyed-and was good at--and now Sophia was going to outshine her again? Kelly fought back tears when Miss Grace entered the room. 

"Hello class, Miss Grace said. "We'll continue to work on the project today. What masterpiece would Sophia have come up with?

Kelly looked at Sophia's easel and she couldn't believe it--it was a mess! For a brief moment, Kelly couldn't actually believe her drawing was better than Sophia's. 

But then she looked at Sophia, who was watching Kelly with an anxious expression. "I…. I couldn't decide what to do, " Sophia said. "And you're so good. Sometimes I feel like my stuff is just so bad in comparison. 

Kelly looked to see if Sophia was joking, but she seemed completely serious. Now Kelly was shocked. "I'm not talented ... Miss Grace seldom praises me. You're the best one in our class!"

Sophia raised her eyebrows. "I might be a really good copier of the stuff, but I have no idea what to do when it comes to making up my own images. You are so great at making new things out of the old stuff. I've loved your works. "

"I've loved yours, too, Kelly said. 

"Well, definitely not this one, " Sophia said. 

Kelly smiled. "Maybe not right now. But if you move these lines up. . . "she said, pointing her finger on Sophia's paper. 

Sophia was quiet for a moment. "That's a great idea!" she said finally. 

Kelly smiled and turned back to her drawing, looking every so often at Sophia's work to see that she was taking her advice, down to the last line. 

Mr. Brown had an umbrella shop in a small town. People sometimes {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(bring) him broken umbrellas, and then he took {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(they) to a big shop in London. They were mended there.

One day Mr. Brown went to London by train. He forgot {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(take) an umbrella with him that day. Sitting in front of him was a man with {#blank#}4{#/blank#} umbrella standing beside the seat. When the train arrived in London, Mr. Brown picked {#blank#}5{#/blank#} the umbrella as he often did during his journey by train. Just as he was getting off, he {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(stop) by the man. He said {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(angry), "That's mine!" Mr. Brown' s face turned red and he gave {#blank#}8{#/blank#} back to the man at once.

When Mr. Brown got to the big shop, the shopkeeper had got his six umbrellas ready. After a good look at each of them, he said, "You've mended them very well."

In the afternoon he got into the train again. The{#blank#}9{#/blank#}(similar)man was in the same seat. He looked at Mr. Brown and his six umbrellas, "You've had a {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(luck)day," he said.

As I walk into the big room at school, I'm wearing my white coat that doctors usually wear. But I also have on some funny 1 and a messy wig that makes me look like a crazy scientist. My name tag says "Professor Quantum Quirks," which makes people laugh.

Inside the room, there are a lot of 2 getting ready for a science fair. They look excited but also a little 3 . I notice one boy sitting by himself, looking 4 because his science project isn't working right. I go over to him and 5 he's having a hard time with it. I feel bad for him. So, I decide to 6 him by doing a fun experiment together. We 7 a mini volcano using simple things we can find at home. He starts to 8 himself and gets excited when the volcano erupts with bubbly stuff. Other kids see us having fun and come over to 9 . We do more cool experiments with them and everyone is 10 and having a good time.

By the end of the science fair, I 11 my wig and glasses, but I'm still 12 because it was so much fun. I hope the kids keep being 13 about science and discovering new 14 . After all, asking questions and exploring is how we learn and have fun in the world of 15 .

English businessman Richard Branson made history on July 11, 2021 as he and three other crewmates became the world's first space tourists. The flight was made by a spacecraft named VSS Unity that was built by Branson's company, Virgin Galactic. The flight lasted slightly more than an hour, and took Branson and crew to an altitude（海拔） of 53. 5 miles above the Earth, just a little above the boundary（边界） of space which lies 50 miles above the Earth.

At that height, the atmosphere turns into the black of outer space and the Earth becomes a bent ball of blue. Travelers also exhibit weightlessness as there is no gravity, the force that keeps our bodies walking on the Earth's surface. Therefore, Branson and his fellows were able to float around in VSS Unity while enjoying the views. They were able to do that for three minutes before the spacecraft began its downward journey. It landed back at Virgin Galactic's space port in New Mexico, United States, which is the same place from where it took off 90 minutes ago.

On landing back, Branson said, "I have dreamt of this moment since I was a kid but honestly, nothing could prepare you for the view of the Earth from space. It was just magical. I'm just taking it all in, and it's unreal."

July 11's flight is the start of space tourism for one and all. In early 2022, customers who could afford a ticket for a quarter of a million dollars could line up for a seat on a trip to space. And guess what—they will have a choice of spacecraft. Jeff Bezos, who owns a famous company, is all set to launch himself into space on July 20 on board a spacecraft built by his new branch company Blue Origin. Blue Origin will also carry tourists to space.

I was heading back home after giving my colleague a lift. I took a  1  as the snowstorm was approaching.

Then the snow started and was coming down  2 . Within minutes I was in a whiteout. The windows were 3 and getting covered with snow, so I slowed down and rolled down my driver's side window, thinking I could better 4 the road edge and keep to a straight line. But really, I had no  5  where I was. I stopped and kept the car running to stay 6  . I called 911. The operator told me to wait things out for the night.

The call left me in  7 . "Breathe," I told myself. An idea occurred to me. I 8  my location online and explained what I was  9 , wishing for anyone to come to my rescue. Soon enough, people started chiming in on my post. I got a 10 from someone who was going to put me in touch with people nearby. I had never been more  11 .

Then I saw a big 12  in the dark. He had walked about 500 meters to get me, 13  the wind and snow each step of the way. "You'll be OK. Follow me." He turned around and started to trudge through the snow, sure of the 14 . I drove slowly behind him. When we reached his house, I burst into tears of 15 .

After building some "standard"cargo bikes， {#blank#}1{#/blank#} ，this time with something very special. I wanted to build an ideal cargo bike combining the stability of a three-wheeler with the possibility to change directions like being on two wheels. 
The first step was to do extensive research {#blank#}2{#/blank#} .An incredible source of technical inspiration was the online Tilting Group.Although primarily-concerned with tilting（倾斜） concepts of engine driven constructions，the group is surely the best place to find information about constructing a tilter. 
    After researching and outlining a few ideas，I grabbed some parts and started with a very simple prototype（雏形）.Building such a vehicle needs a high degree of accuracy，which was not the case with my prototype {#blank#}3{#/blank#} .So I made a few more sketches（草图），which led to an improved version of the driving and tilting mechanism. 
    Then I started building the tricycle.Building the structure was quite straightforward.As usual I took an old bike apart for the back triangle and then added the front part.After adding a cargo basket to the structure， {#blank#}4{#/blank#} . 
    Now came the hard part：the driving mechanism.I started with the usual design used for two-wheel cargo bikes，but it took me quite some time to figure out how to pass the driving force to both wheels without allowing the whole thing to lock itself in any angle {#blank#}5{#/blank#} ， but I'm sure I can use the knowledge I gained one way or another.
