I want to be a volunteer

Hello ， everyone. My name is Zhang Hua. I want to be a volunteer. I'm glad to make a speech here.

One evening, I invited a group of my friends to my house, {#blank#}1{#/blank#}them that I need their help for a study and it would take only a few minutes. 

They all sat down nervously (紧张地) when they saw a recorder （录音器）in my{#blank#}2{#/blank#}. Seeing that, I told a "lie" that there was only one small task (任务) for them—ｔhat was just to count from one to twenty. 

Then each of them in turn counted from one to twenty. {#blank#}3{#/blank#}it was over, I pretended (假装) to turn the recorder off and brought some drinks for them. Enjoying the drinks, we started to talk and joke{#blank#}4{#/blank#}.

Well, my{#blank#}5{#/blank#} task began—to record each one's speech （发言）for a study. 

Mrs. Grady welcomed her class back into the warm, cheerful room. The children sat down at their desks, still talking about what they did over winter vacation. It took a few minutes for Mrs. Grady to get them 1 down. 

 "I'm glad to see you all back! Since it's the 2 of the new year, I thought we'd talk about something people do at this time. It's called making resolutions. Does anyone know what that means?" Mrs. Grady asked.

Lots of hands went up. The students were excited to 14 all the different sports and activities they took part in or would be starting soon. 

"Those are all 15 of good resolutions. Now, I want each of you to write about a resolution you could make this year." The children got to work. 

Recently, a junior high school sent several students back home because they broke the school uniform(校服) rules. Should students wear school uniforms? The Young World magazine held a discussion on this topic. 

Kennedy: The school uniform is very important, because it always reminds me that I am supposed to go out of my way to study hard. It also helps prevent school bullying(欺凌). If everyone wears the same clothes, it is impossible to laugh at other people's clothing. 

Manson: The uniform has to be got through hard work. Students should start school with no uniforms. As they make progress at school, they start wearing it. I always think children need to be proud of their schools. The uniform is important for that. So, make students work hard to get it! If they don't behave(表现) well, they should not be allowed to get one. 

Moorhead: In my opinion, kids don't have to wear uniforms. There should be more choices open to kids in education. They should develop their own independence and just be themselves. Their personalities(个性) would be shown through their own clothes at school. And different dress could be one way of showing their understanding of beauty. Besides, they make the school lively and colourful. 

Patrick: I can see the advantages of wearing school uniforms. They play a very important role in managing schools. However, a school should not depend heavily on uniforms to improve students' behaviour. Teaching them how to express themselves with confidence is more important. 

Last year, we took a trip to New York City. When we arrived at our hotel, it was around 1:00 am. My son, Joseph, looked out at the lights of Times Square and said he {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(want) to go outside. I told him it was too late, but he kept {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(look) out of the window and said, "Just for two minutes. "

My wife and I just looked {#blank#}3{#/blank#} each other, smiled and said, "Two minutes. " We got dressed and walked to {#blank#}4{#/blank#} centre of Times Square. When we got there, my son pointed at the lights and said, "Dad, look!", and then he started to fall {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(sleep). So we had to go back to the hotel. 

It took us twenty minutes {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(get) ready for the twenty seconds we spent outside. {#blank#}7{#/blank#}, it made our son happy and that meant a lot to us. That night, I learnt a lesson about happiness. We sometimes have chances to create happy {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(moment), but we often find an excuse to do something else. We {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(we) are the biggest enemies(敌人) to our own happiness. Although happiness is a door that is always open, we are the ones to decide whether we walk through the door {#blank#}10{#/blank#} not. Happiness is just beside us.
