Harbin is known as "the City of Ice". Usually, it has heavy snow from the early November. It's time for Harbin to come to life and attract visitors all over the world. 

Harbin Ice and Snow World has been a business card since 1999. This 816,682-square-meter park is the largest ice and snow theme park in the world. Visitors can enjoy more than 1,000 artworks made of ice and snow. And also, they can try the super ice slide (滑梯). The number of the ice slides this year is increased from 8 to 14 and the longest one is 512 meters. 

Visitors from the south of China is a large part of the tourism crowd. Chen Ling, a visitor, said, "I'm from Guangzhou. I come here to enjoy the hot winter. My trip will last about a week. I hope I will have a great time!" However, the southern visitors may be less prepared for the cold. So the local government gives the most important suggestion: Pack enough warm clothes. The more, the better. A Harbin taxi driver said, "My wife works in a hotel. These days we're busy but we both feel very excited. Ice and snow are important parts of our city. All the visitors are sure to feel the enthusiasm (热情) of us. Welcome to my hometown!"

You may feel bored in winter sometimes. But Harbin Ice and Snow World can make the long, cold months beautiful and creative.

Jordyn Perez is an American girl. Jordyn was about to turn eight years old when her mother advised her {#blank#}1{#/blank#} her birthday in a new way. "How about donating（捐赠） your gifts to a children's hospital?" her mom asked. 

Jordyn thought about the idea. She already had everything {#blank#}2{#/blank#} she needed. Children in hospital were going through some real difficulties. They {#blank#}3{#/blank#} needed gifts more than she did. "Okay, that sounds cool," she finally said. 

Now Jordyn is in high school, but she has continued to bring {#blank#}4{#/blank#} to kids in hospital. Last Christmas, her eighth yearly gift donation {#blank#}5{#/blank#} . It was for a children's hospital in San Antonio, Texas. 

Children can be in hospital for lots of {#blank#}6{#/blank#} . But whatever the illness, a hospital stay can be stressful. Efforts like Jordyn's are a bright spot during a difficult time. 

Jordyn's gift-giving project begins each year in November. When she invites her friends to her birthday party, each {#blank#}7{#/blank#} includes a list of gift ideas for kids in hospital. Jordyn also shares the list with her family and her school volleyball coach and teammates. With {#blank#}8{#/blank#} help, the number of donations "grows every year," she says. Then, it's time to share the gifts with the children in hospital. "These gifts put smiles on the faces of these little patients. That's the {#blank#}9{#/blank#} thing I've ever cared about," Jordyn says. 

Jordyn has also encouraged others to follow in her footsteps. Some of her friends {#blank#}10{#/blank#} a and donated gifts for their birthdays so far. "It just makes you feel good to give to others," Jordyn says. "I want to keep doing this as long as I can."

Our family went to the Yellow Stone National Park last summer vacation. Our son, Tom, wanted to see bears there. And what an experience it was!

When we got there, we put up our tent and went to explore（探险）. As we returned, we heard our daughter Susie cry out. And then we saw a bear go into our camp. 

Tom wanted his father to chase（追赶）him away. 

His father said, "No. It's dangerous to chase a bear. And don't let him chase you."

Susie said, "What shall we do? Maybe we should climb a tree."

Tom said, "No. We have to get him out of there. He might go to sleep in our tent."

"Maybe we could make him leave if we put some honey outside for him to eat." Susie suggested. 

Then I said, "How are you going to get the honey? It's in the tent."

We watched the bear go into the tent and heard him upset（翻倒）everything inside. 

"It's foolish for us to try to chase him away." said my husband, "Leave him alone and wait for him to come out."

We waited, but the bear stayed inside. We had to sleep in the car that night.

Today is December 31st. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} We call it New Year's Eve. Tomorrow is January 1st. That's the first day of the new year. My brother Tom and I are helping our parents. We are getting ready for a big party.

Tom and I love New Year's Eve. {#blank#}3{#/blank#} But on New Year's Eve, we go to sleep after midnight.

Just before midnight, everyone counts the seconds until 12 o' clock. We shout( 呼 喊 )," Ten… nine... eight... seven... six... five... four... three... two... one." And then everyone shouts," {#blank#}4{#/blank#}" We all hold hands and sing songs. {#blank#}5{#/blank#} Soon after the games, Tom and I go to bed. New Year's Eve is the best night of the year!

Eric Whitacre is one of the most famous musicians in the world. His wonderful and special skills on music works quickly draw people's attention all over the world. He is excited about using choral(合唱)music to make people get together from all around the world. 

As a child, Eric Whitacre lived in a small town with many farms. He had a great interest in music since childhood. He didn't know how to read music, but he often played different kinds of instruments. 

Years later, Eric went to the college that he dreams to study in. In the college(大学), he met the leader of the college's choir(合唱团) . At first, Eric didn't want to join the choir, but finally he did because the leader would like to teach him music. 

Then Eric came there and sang with the choir for the first time. It was a big surprise. The beautiful and interesting choral music shocked him and then he decided to write music pieces. At the age of 21, Erie made his first successful work and had many fans. Later he became a popular musician, and his works were very modern. 

Eric Whitacre's choir is very special because it's virtual(虚拟的) . The Internet makes this possible. The members of the choir don't know each other. They are in different ages, from different countries, and have different jobs. But they are joined together by their love of singing and their hope to be part of a worldwide community that makes beautiful music.
