    Mick Polly，an owner of a toy store，lives with his teenage daughter Carolina in Kentucky．He is known as the Bike Man．Over the past five years，Mick has built hundreds of bikes for needy kids．

    One day in 2012，a 13﹣year﹣old boy with a broken bike walked by Mick's house．"I was working in my garage（车库），and he asked if I could fix it，"says Mick，now 53．

    The boy's bike had a broken wheel．Mick sent a post（帖子） on Facebook，asking his friends if they had the needed part．One friend saw the post and gave away two used bikes．Mick took parts from each to build a new set of wheels for the boy．

    Soon after，Mick repaired a bike for the boy's brother and fixed one for his sister．Word spread，and during the year，he had fixed up lots of bikes for local kids whose parents were not able to afford new ones ．

    "People are throwing away bikes day and night，"says Mick．

    Mick puts the bikes and bike parts in his garage．"I take off the good tires or the handlebars or the seats and use them，"he says．

    Up to now，the bike man has repaired hundreds of bikes and given away nearly 700newly repaired bikes．They're free，but the kids must agree to two things：They have to learn how to put waste things to good use and they have to try their best to study in school．

    If a kid's grades are low，Mick requires a teacher's note"saying that you're doing your best，"Mick says．Mick also hopes the bikes will get kids off the sofa．"When I was growing up，we all rode our bikes，"he says．"Hopefully these kids can get some exercise．"

    A young American doctor was sleeping when suddenly his door bell began to ring. It was already midnight, but what could the doctor do? He had to get up, put on his coat and go downstairs.

    When he opened the door, he saw a man standing with a hat in his hand. “ How do you do, doctor?” said the man. “ Can you come at once to a place out of town? It is quite far, but you have a car and I can show you the way.”

    “Certainly,” said the doctor, “ I am quite ready, I can come at once.” In a few minutes, the car was standing at the front door, the man got on the doctor's car. And they drove off.

    They drove on for a long time, and then the man said, “ Here we are. This is my house. Now I can pay you and you can go back to town.”

    “But I must see the patient,” the doctor said. “How can I go back without seeing the patient? Where is the patient?”

    “There is no patient,” explained the man. “Nobody is ill. I live here, you see, and one must get home from a town, mustn't he? There are no taxis at this time of the night, but a doctor often makes night calls, so excuse me. Here is your money. Thank you, doctor. Good night.”

    There was a boy and his family was very rich. One day his father took him on a trip to a place. He wanted to show his son how poor people were there. They spent several days on a farm. There were many poor families living on the farm.

    On their way home, the father asked the son, "How was the trip?" "It was great, Dad," the son answered. "Did you notice how poor people were there?" asked his father. "Oh, yes," said the son. "So, tell me," said his father. The son said, "Well, we have one dog and they have four. We have a pool in our garden, while they have a river that has no end. We have expensive lanterns(灯), but they have stars above their heads at night. We have only a small place of land to live on, while they have the endless fields。We buy our food, but they grow theirs. We have high walls around our houses to protect us, but they don't need walls, because their friends will protect them."

    The father had nothing to say. Then the boy added, "Thank you, Dad, for letting me see how poor we are."

    Most children love toys. But do you make your own toys? Seventh-graders at Central Middle

    School in Connecticut, US, really did. They made toys using a 3-D printer(打印机) in science class.

    They made a red and blue soccer table, a catapult(弹弓) and a scooter(踏板车).

    But these toys are not for themselves. They will donate them to poor children in Haiti. "By doing so, students feel that they can help others," science teacher Kate Bruzinski told the Greenwich Time.

    Bruzinski teaches the students how to use 3-D printers. They printed(打印) parts of toys. They worked in groups of four. It took them six to seven weeks to make the toys. They drew pictures for the toys, found materials(材料) and then built them.

    Soon, these toys will meet their owners in Haiti. Students are happy about that.

    A feral child is a child who, from a young age, has lived with animals in the wild. What makes wild animals adopt these children and raise them as their own is a mystery. Since feral children have often had no contact with humans for a long time, they may be more like wild animals than people. Their stories, although often upsetting can teach us how people learn and use language — and perhaps even what it means to be human.

    In Uganda in 1991, a tribeswoman saw a naked boy living with a troop of wild monkeys in the jungle. The woman was shocked and quickly told the people in her village about the boy. When they tried to take him away from the monkeys, the frightened boy threw sticks at them and climbed up a tree to hide. The monkeys fought fiercely, trying to stop the tribesmen from taking him away, but they did not succeed.

    After his "rescue", the boy was taken to Kamuzinda Chritan Orphanage, outside Kampala, the capital city of Uganda. He was identified as John Ssabunnya, a boy who had disappeared three years earlier after his mother was murdered and his father went missing. John was only two years old when he disappeared.

    John couldn't speak when he arrived at the orphanage. It was obvious that he did not know how to act in a human way-- he knew only how to behave like a monkey. However, he soon began to talk and was found to have a beautiful singing voice.

    John shot to fame at the age of fourteen, when he toured the UK with a children's choir(合唱队). "His is a remarkable story. One day it could even be made into a film." said tour organizer Hillary Cook.
