"Don't sleep in class, Jack!" shouted the teacher. "You are 1, sir," Jack stood up and said, "I'm thinking about the question now. I'm not 2."

    "I'm sorry," said the teacher. "Would you like 3 my question?" asked the teacher. "Certainly," said Jack. "What is it?" "Why does the moon sometimes look like a(n) 4 and sometimes look like a sickle(镰刀)?" asked the teacher. "Oh, this question is 5," said Jack. " 6 it is full, it looks like a plate. It 7 like a sickle when it is 8, just like my stomach." Jack's answer made the class 9. The teacher was unhappy.

    "Why do we have the sun in the 10 and don't have the sun at night?" "This question is easier than that one," said Jack. "When we work in the day, we need the sun. When we go to bed at night, we don't need the sun."

    Once upon a time, there were three brothers named Sam, Tim and Andy. They lived in a small house in the forest. Every day, they cut down trees and sold 1 in the market. Though they lived a good life, they were 2. They all wished for something and felt sad for not having it.

    One day, they saw an old woman bent low with a heavy bag on her back. They 3 to carry the bag to her home. The old woman was in fact a witch (女巫) with magical powers. Pleased with their 4, she decided to help them and asked what they wanted.

    "I want a big house with lots of servants." said Sam.

    "I would like a big farm with good harvest." said Tim.

    "A beautiful 5 would make me happy." said Andy. The old woman promised to make their dreams come true. The three brothers thought she was just joking. However, when reaching home, they were 6 by what they saw: a big house with a doorman and other servants, a yellow farmland with 7 growing well and a beautiful woman who claimed to be Andy's wife. The three brothers' hearts were filled with joy. They thought they were the 8 men in the world.

    However, they soon got tired of what they had and became unhappy again. So they visited the old woman and asked her the secret of 9.

    "Well," said the old woman. "It's all in your own hands. You should learn to be satisfied with what you have. Otherwise you can never really be happy."

    The three brothers 10 the old woman's advice and learnt to appreciate what they had. As a result, they lived happily ever after.

    "You're doing it all wrong," said Ryan.

    "You're nuts!" shouted Tom. "I'm the best jumper there ever was!"

    "Then why can't you touch the doorframe (门框)?"

    "It's 1, okay?"

    Tom looked straight up. The doorframe was ten feet high. 2 could jump high enough to touch it, even older kids. But Ryan had dared (激某人做某事) Tom that he couldn't do it, and so Tom had to 3.

    He muttered, "I'm the best jumper there ever was."

    It all started one day last year, a Frisbee (飞盘) was stuck in a tree. It was so 4 that nobody could get it. And Tom stood way back from the tree and got a running start.     "Come on," he 10 Tom, "You can't jump just a little bit higher? I thought you were the best jumper!"

    Tom gritted his teeth, tensed his legs and threw his body up into the air. And he 11 fell short by at least two feet.

    "It's impossible," he said.

    "Ha! I knew it."

    "12 we work together."

    "Excuse me?"

    "Neither of us can jump high enough to touch it alone, but if we work together…" Tom 13.

    A few minutes later, Tom went down on his knee and held Ryan's foot in his hands.

    "One…two…three!" shouted Tom. On three, Ryan put all his 14 on Tom's hands, and Tom threw him up into the air. Ryan's hand hit the doorframe and fell down laughing.

    "15 did it!" he said.

    "Now it's my turn!" said Tom.

    Together, they were the best jumpers there ever were.

    For Pineda, it was a long way to succeed.

    His story began in El Salvador; where he was born with something wrong with his mouth. He had great 1 in speaking. At age 2, his family's house burned down. Pineda was hurt  2, and his legs needed to be cut. His mother died when he was 8, and he3years on the streets before he was taken in by an orphanage(孤儿院).

    Finally, at the orphanage, Pineda began to receive support and encouragement. He taught himself to play the guitar. He began his4with other musicians. Then the group went to Chicago, where Pineda, then 18, 5the attention of many people, who wondered what they could do to help him.

    A hospital offered him free medical care. A rich man agreed to6for Pineda's tickets to and from El Salvador.

    When he was in the hospital, Pineda began7music, and wondered if he might be able to record his own album(音乐专辑).Soon with the help of a musician, "The Sound of Gratitude(感激)" was born. On October 15^th, Pineda went to a Chicago club to8his new songs to strangers, and to the friends who had helped him come so far,

    It was 9that Pineda had come into such a good luck, after having so many years of hardship(艰难). "We have a 10 in El Salvador, 'Suffer(受难）first, then enjoy.' I guess that's what's happening. " he said.

 Charlotte Liebling considers herself a"world watcher" - someone who carefully sees the world around her. When Liebling was in college, she volunteered at a 1 that sold second-hand goods. She saw people bringing objects to donate, including soft toys.

 Liebling knew that the toys held great sentimental (情感的) value for their owners. So she felt 2 when the toys were sold very cheaply, or worse, thrown away.

 One night when Liebling got home from work, she started doing some research. She 3 this wasn't happening only in her town. Millions of toys 4 in landfills(垃圾场) every year in the world."If we can change the idea that soft toys lose their 5 after they' ve been used, then we can show people that these toys still hold important worth and can be passed on to others. That's how the Loved Before Company 6 ," Liebling says.

 When someone wants to donate a soft toy, he can take it to the company. He is encouraged to write down the name of the toy and a story about it. This can include the creature's likes and dislikes, and an adventure it's been on. Liebling believes that sharing what makes the toy 7 helps new owners understand its value. Then the toy is cleaned, photographed, and packed 8 with its name and story. Every Monday, Liebling 9 the toys on the Loved Before website.

 Since the company started in 2019, Loved Before has sold more than 50, 000 soft toys. But the company's 10 is more than"just trying to save some toys from landfills," Liebling says. "We hope to teach kids about the value of loving second-hand things again."
