It's true that every country has its customs.

We all know that in America if people are pleased with you, they will give you a sign "OK". But maybe you don't know this sign is rude in Brazil.

In Poland, guests usually choose flowers as presents for hostesses(女主人). Remember the number must be odd(奇数的). And the hostess doesn't hope that you remove the cover of the bunch(束) of flowers. You must be more careful when you give red roses to a woman because the red rose means love.

In China we often hear people say that "nodding" means agreement(同意). And "shaking the head" means disagreement. But in Bulgaria they mean the opposite.

We really need to pay more attention to the differences in customs. What's more, we should learn more about them in order to avoid embarrassment(尴尬). Do remember: When in Rome, do as the Romans do.

You are running in the playground. But then suddenly, you fall and hurt yourself. "Ow!" you cry. This sound is very familiar to us all. Crying out when we get hurt is a natural action. But have you thought about why we shout it out? And do people from different languages make the similar sound?

Scientists now believe they've found out the reason: shouting the word "ow" partly stops pain messages from traveling to the brain. So by shouting it out, people can feel less pain.

The scientists tested how long volunteers could hold their hands in very cold water. In the first group, they were allowed to shout "ow" when they felt pain. In another group they had to stay silent. The results showed that volunteers were able to keep their hands in the cold water for longer when they were allowed to shout out. Shouting out "ow" helps humans feel less pain and add the time.

What's more, scientists have also found that different languages have similar expressions of pain. While cries of "ow" or "ouch" are heard in English, South Africans yell "eina".

These languages have one thing in common: when people shout them, the mouth simply opens, the tongue (舌头)lies flat and the lips (嘴唇) unrounded. It is a simple sound that requires little control, so it's easy to make a big sound. For the reasons, these sounds are useful to shout if we feel pain.

Do you know which social app is popular with Chinese young people now? "Short videos" are certainly the most popular. A large number of young people use Tik Tok (抖音) and Kuaishou. They think it is fun to share their lives by short videos, while others have other purposes as well.

A t2-year-old user named Elsa has about 2. 7 million fans on Tik Tok. The girl has shared her dancing studies on Tik Tok since last July. One of the videos won her about one million tans. "I feel really glad to share happiness with people by short videos." said Elsa.

To some other young people, they use short videos to have a quick look at the hot programs. "Because I don't like to spend many hours watching a whole program, I hate waiting for a program to end, and I prefer to watch short videos of wonderful parts of hot programs," said Wang Zhihao.

However, some young people feel bored with short videos. "Killing time is the main reason for me to watch short videos, and many short videos are almost the same, so I think they are not so useful or interesting. What's more, I really don't like the videos about strange and dangerous things," said Wen Nan, another college student.

Recently, something else has appeared. Some videos are telling people what commodities are worth buying. Some short videos even sell bad commodities, and it is hard for customers to get their money back. So we should think twice before we want to buy the commodities by short videos.
