完形填空

I used t to have few passions(激情) in my life. But what had happened the other day changed my mind. It was then that I learned how 1 it is to have a passion in life.

That day I went home in Mom's c car. When Mom 2 at a red light, someone on the side of the road caught my eyes. It was a man dressed 3 rags(破旧衣服). He was homeless. That didn't interest me,because I had seen 4 like him before. Those people usually looked unhappy and hopeless.

But this man was 5 in some way. He was not sitting down with a 6 expression. Instead, he had a 7 in his hand and was dancing happily to the music. The radio seemed to be the most precious(珍贵的) thing he had.

"Mom, why does that man have a radio 8 he's homeless?" I asked.

    "He 9 it, she replied.

"But why didn't he use the money to buy food or clothes? He 10 something that he didn't" need.

"Well,Sarah,s sometimes food and clothes " aren't the most important.

That man must care so much about 11 that he bought a radio instead of food or clothes. I soon realized that 12 is the key to life.

Since then I have been always thinking of 13 is truly important in life. A home, a meal, clothes- these things are 14 part of life. What we often forget is that we all need joy, light in a 15 day. We all need a passion which gives us the happiness we need to keep going.

Emma was very excited. Today was the baseball game! The winners would all get trophies (奖杯). Emma decided to bring home a trophy to put on her shelf. She had never won a trophy before.

She put on her red uniform, picked up her gloves and said to herself, "I hope I get a hit today."

On the way to field, Emma felt nervous.

"Are you feeling okay, Emma?" her mother asked.

"I really don't want to strike out," Emma said.

"Just keep your eye on the ball and don't feel afraid. You can do it," Emma's mother said.

Emma was a great hitter in practice, but she had never hit a ball during a game. She almost always struck out.

When the game started, Emma cheered (喝彩) loudly for her friends. She caught a fly ball to make an out, and everyone cheered for her. Emma struck out when it was her turn to bat, but her team was doing well.

The game was tied (平局) and it was her team's last chance. Frankie was up first, and he hit the ball hard to get on base. Next up was Henry, but he struck out. Kara hit the ball, but she was out at first base. Frankie was able to run to third. That meant he could score (得分) and win the game if the next teammate got a good hit.

Emma closed her eyes and swung hard for the first time, but missed.

"Keep your eye on the ball, Emma!" her mother called from the stands.

Emma heard it. So this time she kept her eyes wide open as she swung the bat. Crack! Emma hit the ball and ran as fast as she could. She was safe, and Frankie ran home. They won!

"Great game, everyone!" said Emma's coach later. "Here are your trophies."

Emma held her shiny trophy high in the air. She couldn't wait to put the new trophy on her shelf at home.

Bryan ran home." Dad! Look!" he called excitedly."I found the cutest pet in the river! I named him Hoppy."

Dad had a closer look," Oh, a frog! How handsome!"

" Do you think Hoppy will like it here?"

" Why don't you keep him for a while, and then we' ll see how he's going."

Bryan found a shoebox. Using a pen, he poked(戳) air holes in the top of the box." Welcome to your new home. In you go, Hoppy."

" Are you hungry?" Bryan asked. He lifted his frog out of the box and put some sandwich pieces in front of him." Eat up, Hoppy." Bryan watched... But Hoppy didn't eat. Bryan waited... Hoppy just sat and stared (瞪眼看)." Don't you like sandwiches?"

Bryan put Hoppy back in the box."I think Hoppy's tired. I'm going to make him a comfortable bed." Bryan cut the old newspapers into pieces and put them into the box. He put Hoppy on his new bed." Are you cozy now? I' ll tell a story to help you sleep." When the story was over, Hoppy was still awake.

" Can't you sleep? Why?" Bryan asked. Hoppy just sat… and stared. Bryan didn't know what to do and sat thinking.

" How are you getting along?" Dad asked.

Bryan cried," Hoppy doesn't want to eat or sleep."

" Think about what he really needs."

A little later, Bry an ran into the house looking for his dad." Whoa!" said Dad." What's the hurry? And where's Hoppy?"

"I took him back to the river," Bryan said." He was sure glad to be home! When I put Hoppy down, he jumped into the river, caught a fly and ate it. Then, guess what!"

" What?"

Bryan laughed." Just before Hoppy jumped into the water, I think I saw him smile at me."
