On a sunny Sunday, ten fully well-dressed people were standing at the airport (机场) waiting for the parachute (降落伞) training. Suddenly, with the help of a guide dog, a blind (瞎的) man was coming with a parachute on his back.

"Do you also come for the parachute training (训练)?" someone asked.

"Yes!" the blind man answered in a loud voice.

"Ah-" the people cried in surprise.

"I know. Are you wondering how a blind man can parachute?" the blind man said happily, "It's not difficult. I'll parachute like you."

"But how do you know when to jump?" someone asked.

"Although I'm blind, I can hear! When the bell for the training rings, I'll carry my dog to follow you." the blind man replied.

"Then how do you know when to open the parachute?" someone asked again.

"The coach (教练) says, counting to five from the time I jump down, I can open it." replied the blind man.

"But when you are about to fall to the ground (落地), how do you know when to fall to the ground? It is the most dangerous minute."

"It's easy. When my dog is afraid into crying and the rope (绳) in my hands becomes light, I'll be ready for falling to the ground." They looked at each other, with no words.

At the end of the training, the coach told everybody," In this training, Robert gets the highest score (得分) for his best action."

    "Who is Robert?" they asked.

"He," the coach replied, pointing at the blind young man.

Dean felt his arms and legs were burning. With each breath, Dean wondered if he should be done, but as he touched the wall at the end of the pool he turned for another lap (圈). "I can do one more. This is for Kevin," Dean told himself. He was starting his seventh lap.

Dean and the other members of his swim team were swimming to raise money for Dean's best friend, Kevin Hawking. Earlier in the year, Kevin fell ill. He needed expensive medical care that his family couldn't afford. After Kevin's friends learned what was happening, they started brainstorming ways to help. Several of Kevin's friends were on the swim team, which led to the idea of swimming.

For a month, Dean and the other swim team members had asked for pledges (承诺) from anyone who would help: family members, friends, and neighbours. Most people pledged a dollar or two each lap. Dean's grandmother said she would offer $ 10 for each lap Dean swam!

Finally, as Dean completed his tenth lap, he knew he was too tired to keep going. If I try another lap. I'll end up lying in the middle of the pool, waiting for someone to come and get me, he thought. Dean pulled himself up onto the edge of the pool and sat breathing quickly for a couple of minutes, quietly resting before he tried to stand.

Dean's father came over and said, "Wow, Dean," shaking his head in amazement, "I am so proud of you. That's farther than anyone else has swum today, and I know it's farther than you've ever swum before."

Dean stood up and slowly walked with his father back to the seats where the other swimmers sat next to Kevin. "Thank you," Kevin said.

"It's no big deal. I know you'd do the same for me," Dean said.

A girl went to her father to ask for his advice. She was having a hard time in life. It seemed that when one problem disappeared,another one appeared. It was terrible!

Her father,a cook,took her into the kitchen. He took out pans and poured water into the pans to boil.

After the water boiled,he put some carrots into the first pan, some eggs into the second pan and coffee beans into the last one.

After 20 minutes,her father turned off the stove,took out the carrots and eggs and put them in a bowl. He poured the coffee into a cup.

"Dear, what do you see? "he asked his daughter.

"Carrots,eggs,and coffee,"she said.

"Touch the carrots,"he told her. She did and felt that the carrots were soft. After that he asked her to take an egg and break it. She found that the egg was hard. At last,her father asked her to taste the coffee.

"What's the meaning,Father? "she asked.

"The strong and hard carrots became soft and weak after boiling. The fragile(脆弱的) eggs became hard in the boiling water. The coffee beans were very special,but they changed the water around them. " her father said,"As you can see,each thing reacted differently to the boiling water. "

"Who are you? "asked her father. "When you have problems, what will you do? Are you carrots, eggs,or coffee? "
