I was once a fat girl. I weighed 336 pounds and looked as big as my fridge. I was never 1 it. But one day I had a medical examination（体检）. The doctor told me that I was having heart trouble. It 2 me up. I began to feel nervous. Then I decided to do something!

In a year and five months, I3 104 pounds. What a great thing I did ! I didn't have any expensive food, medical treatment（治疗）or camp-style（训练营式的）exercise. What was the secret to my success?

First I looked through the Internet for do-it-yourself 4 that people could follow on losing weight. Of course I saw countless(无数的) ads which tried to get me to buy their products. But I bought nothing. The only thing I did was to change my bad 5 . The following are what I have done. You can try these. Stop drinking something with too much sugar in it. Refuse(拒绝)sweet cakes. Eat green vegetables. Use only vegetable oil. Never eat after 6:30 pm. Also, do light exercise for 15 to 20 minutes five days a week. 

Then I kept doing what I should do. People sometimes say, "You don't need to tell me 6 to do. I know it already!" But the fact is that knowing what to do and doing what you know are totally7 . The important thing is to know what to do and then just keep doing it. 。

One day, a running race started in the forest. Each of the first twelve winners could name a year after themselves.

The mouse thought he was the smallest one so he got up as the sun rose. However, the horse, the tiger, and the ox (牛) all caught up with him. They met at the Great River. It moved so fast that the little mouse could not swim across, so he asked other bigger animals for help. The kind-hearted ox agreed. As they were about to reach the other side, the rat jumped off the ox and won first place.

The ox came in second, with the tiger right behind him. Jumping across stones, the rabbit came in fourth. The dangerous river was not a big deal for the dragon because he could fly across it. But he stopped to help other animals in need. Just as he arrived, the snake suddenly and quietly appeared, which startled (使受惊吓) the horse, letting the snake arrive in the sixth place.

Different from other animals, the sheep, the monkey, and the rooster (公鸡) crossed the river with the help of a raft (木筏) .They worked together and made a success. The three agreed to give eighth place to the sheep, who had been the friendliest of them. The dog was a good swimmer but he played in the water for so long that he only came in eleventh. The last one was the pig, who got hungry easily and liked sleeping.

This is how each Chinese year is connected with animals in this order.

Wuhan is the capital city of Hubei. it is a beautiful, large and very important city in China. During last Spring Festival, the city received much tons of attention because a novel corona—virus (新型冠状病毒) appeared there and spread around the country. Several days before the Spring Festival，Wuhan was locked and the city became quiet and still. 

A big fight against the novel corona— virus was going on there. The doctors and nurses there became brave warriors (勇士) in masks (口罩), glasses and protective suits. Many of them had to work over ten hours every day drinking little or no water. They risked their health and even lives to treat the patients. Thousands of doctors and nurses from other cities and provinces in China went to Wuhan to support them. There is no doubt that they were all heroes in the fight. 

Besides doctors and nurses, everyone in our country was doing their own part in the fight against the novel corona—virus. 

That Spring festival was not as fun as it usually is. It even brought us to tears many times. However， we will never forget those difficult days, not only for the awful virus, but also for the efforts we made together and the lessons we learned. 

At the corner of Jan Smuts Street in Durban, six women meet every day, waiting for a truck to come and get the cardboard (纸板) they have collected.

Every morning Chitha leaves her house at 5 a. m. to collect cardboard. She has been doing this for the past 12 years. She says her dream is to see her children go to college. Then she found this job.

" It's dirty and people look down on us. We only make about R3, 400 a month. However, this is a ticket for us to send our children to college." Chitha said with a big smile. She added that she found great joy knowing her daughter is in college.

" We have a slogan(口号) —— Keep on going and never give up." Chitha continued." We don't just sit here waiting for the truck to come. We also talk about life, give advice about problems and help each other. We are a family here."

" We are all single mothers and have to make money to raise our children. I'm collecting this dirty cardboard for my three children to have a brighter future. I will continue until the last one also goes to college."

Chitha's daughter Naledi is now in her second year at a college. She said with tears in her eyes," Mom is doing all she can to survive (生存). I admire her for that."

Dreams. Ambitions (抱负). Everyone has them. 

Some people dream of winning a big prize. Others want to travel around the world...Ellie Stevenson dreams of being a singer.

I quickly try to finish writing one last sentence but Miss Jones sees me. "Ellie Stevenson! The exam is over!"

"Please, Miss...another thirty seconds... five?"

"Humph!" she says and takes my paper. 

There is nothing that I can do now. I hate biology! I dream of being a singer, like Murphy. I want to study music at A level. 

"You can't study music!" said Dad when I told him at the start of the sixth grade, in September last year. "If you want a good career, you need to study science."

"He's right. The sciences are important, Ellie," agreed Skye. "I'm going to study chemistry, biology, physics and math." 

"Boring! Why don't you study French like me?" suggested Cassie. "Mr. Lake, the French teacher, is great!"

I never told anyone about my dream after that. 

Now here I am trying not to fall asleep as Miss Jones finishes collecting the answer papers after the biology exam. I'm really tired. I close my eyes. I only want to rest for a minute. But soon I'm not in the exam room...

I'm on stage in front of thousands of fans. My fans! They are shouting my name... I start to play the guitar and they all cheer... they sing the words to my latest hit...

"Ellie! Ellie!" Miss Jones's angry voice wakes me up. 

"Eh...? Sorry?"

"It's time to go home!" she says, shaking her head. 

I'm the only person left in the room. Everyone else has already gone. 

I was dreaming... again. 

I feel stupid as I pick up my bag and walk towards the exit. 

Outside, it's raining. It's spring but the sky is grey and miserable (令人难受的). It seems like it will rain forever and I haven't got an umbrella.
