    Some people learn a second language easily. Other people have trouble learning a new language. How can you help yourself learn a new language such as English? There are several ways to make learning English a little easier and more interesting.

    The first step is to feel positive(积极的) about learning English. If you believe that you can learn, you will learn. Be patient. You do not have to understand everything all at once. It is natural to make mistakes when you learn something new. We can learn from our mistakes. In other words, do not worry about taking risks.

    The second step is to practise your English. For example, write a journal, or a diary every day. You will get used to writing in English, and you will feel comfortable expressing your ideas in English. After several weeks, you will see that your writing is improving. In addition, you must speak English every day. You can practise with your classmates out of class.

    You will make mistakes, but gradually you will become comfortable to communicate in English.

    The third step is to keep a record of your language learning. You can write this in your journal. After each class, think about what you did. Did you answer a question correctly? Did you understand anything the teacher explained? Perhaps the lesson was difficult, but you tried to understand it. Write these accomplishments in your journal.

Along the way to 2024, there is one word left in my heart-Belief(信念).

Our school was going to hold an art festival. Every class was actively preparing for it. However, our class didn't know what to perform at first. After discussion, in the end we decided to sing the song Five thousand years of China to show our love to our country. 

We practiced hard together after school. After five times' practice, some students still couldn't remember the words. Our head teacher patiently told us that the most important thing for us was "belief". Then she came up with an idea. She divided us into small groups. Then the person who could sing well taught the others. Slowly, it began to work. We were full of hope for the festival. 

The day arrived. We had never took part in such activities before, so we were kind of nervous. Our head teacher seemed to read our minds and she gave us some suggestions to make us feel relaxed. But when we stood in front of hundreds of people, we still felt nervous. We all tried to control ourselves because there was a belief in our hearts. 

When we started to sing, the head teacher looked at us with a smile. This made all of us no longer feel nervous. We succeeded in singing the song. As it was over, we got exciting cheers. Through this experience, I understood the importance of working together and I loved it very much.

Your teacher asks you to collect your classmates' opinions about their favorite school lunches. After asking everyone, you have collected a lot of data(数据) or information and aren't sure how to organize it. Creating a graph (图表) can be a great way to organize and share your data.

Graphs show data in a direct way that is easy to read and understand. There are many different kinds of graphs. Different graphs are better for different kinds of data. Read on to find out about the types of graphs in math, as well as the key parts of a graph.

Bar chart

A bar chart has a horizontal axis (横轴) and a vertical axis(竖轴). It has a title that explains what it shows, and different bars are used to show different amounts. There's a number line along the vertical axis and labels(标签) along the horizontal axis, labeling the data.

Pie chart

A pie chart helps organize and show data as a percentage of a whole. True to the name, it looks a bit like a pie and uses a circle to show the whole. Pieces of that circle, or "pie", stand for the different things. The different pieces of the pie are different sizes depending on how much of the whole pie they show. Each piece is labeled to show what it means.

Line graph

Line graphs are used to show changes to numbers over time. They show what we call continuous data. The vertical axis explains the data being shown. We mark data on a line graph. The different data points are then joined up with straight lines, so we can look at the trend(趋势) it shows.

Flow chart

A flow chart shows the different steps in something using boxes and arrows(箭头). It can often have many different directions and different paths you can take using the information it asks for. Flow charts can be great for explaining a huge process by breaking it down into different steps.

Many students do an IQ test in their school. Even if they never see their results, they feel that their  IQ is what determines how well they are going to do in life. When they see other students doing better than them, they usually believe that those students have a higher IQ and that they can't change this fact. However, new research suggests that success is not simply the result of a high IQ.

While your IQ tells you how intelligent you are, your EQ tells you how well you use your intelligence. Professor Salovey says that when predicting someone's future success, their EQ might actually matter more than their IQ. For example, you may wonder why some of the smartest students in your class sometimes fail exams. Perhaps their failure is because of their low EQ.

It is believed that people with high EQs are open to new idea s and have positive altitudes(态度) towards life. They are seldom troubled by problems. As for people with low EQs, they often have trouble getting on with others and dealing with difficult situations. As a result, they have a harder time surviving in life.

The good news is that EQ has a lot to do with education. Compared with IQ that seems to be fixed(固定的) the moment you were born, EQ could be improved with right methods. For example, learning more skills in communication and understanding can be helpful.

To live a happy successful life, you need a high EQ— the higher, the better.
