The listening test is one of the most important parts of the English exam. Here are some tips for you.
Before you start to listen, you need to relax. Don't be stressed out. And try to read the questions. These questions usually help you understand the conversation or the passage.
Then listen carefully to the first sentence. It usually tells you the main idea of the passage. While you're listening, try to do some thinking and take some notes, such as
What happened?
When, where, and how?
What does the speaker want to tell us?
In this way, you may understand the passage better.
Please remember not to think about one or two words for a long time. When you hear some words you don't know, don t spend too much time on them. Very often, you'll find out what they mean later when you go on with the listening.

Manage Your Time Better
As is known to us all, the most precious thing in the world is nothing but "today". There- fore, it is important to learn to manage our time wisely, which will lead to success in areas like work and school. But how can we make it? Here's an interview between the host(主持人) of Star Students and Peter. (H-Host; P-Peter)
H: Welcome to Star Students, Peter! What learning method are you go- ing to share today?
P: Thanks. I want to talk about the Pomodoro Technique. {#blank#}1{#/blank#}"Po- modoro" means" " in Italian. An Italian man named Francesco Cirillo invented the system in the 1980s. He named it after his mother's tomato- shaped kitchen timer.
H: {#blank#}2{#/blank#}
P:No, it's very simple. First, think about what you need to do, like writing an article. Then, think about all the steps of the task and write a clear to-do list. When you are ready, set a timer for 25 minutes and start working on the first step.
H: OK, but what happens when the timer goes off?
P: {#blank#}3{#/blank#} Then, set the timer for another 25 minutes and keep working.
H: OK. I get it. Can I use the timer on my phone?
P: You can, but then you might check messages or look at apps, so be careful. I use my dad's kitchen timer and turn off my phone while studying.
H: {#blank#}4{#/blank#}
P: Yes! It helps me use my time better. I finish my homework faster and have more free time now!
A. Does the system work well for you? B. It helps you manage your time. C. Keep working on your task. D. Is it hard to follow the system? E. Take a short break for 3 to 5 minutes. |
