Once there lived an unhappy king who slept badly and didn't feel like eating anything. This made1queen and his people worried. A doctor was called in to2 him. The doctor said it's all in his mind instead of his body. So 3medicine nor rest could help him but a shirt of a happy person.

The prime minister was called to the palace. When hearing the king's situation, he said, “Although I have much power, it doesn't make me4. I'm always worried about losing it.”Then, the king's banker came and said he had lots of wealth, but he also worried about losing it. He was never happy, either. Next, the palace singer came and his words were almost the same.

Finally, the top general was told to find a happy man in5time. Luckily, he found a poor man without power, money or fame singing happily on a street. The general asked him6 made him so happy. The poor man answered that he had everything he wanted and he didn't want those he couldn't have. His songs came from the happiness in his heart. When the general asked for the man's shirt,7, the man said, “What shirt? I don't own any shirts!”

    Sally is eighty-six years old. She has no sons   1 daughters. Her husband died ten years ago. But she didn't move into a nursing home. She would like to 2  herself every day.

    Every night she spends two hours  3   kids with math for twenty years. All kids living on her street can get her help without payment(报酬). She was a famous math    4  before she retired(退休) from a middle school.

    She gets up early in the morning, then does sports, goes shopping or helps cleaners   5   the street. And she does these happily.

    I sat with my friend in a well-known coffee shop. As we enjoyed our coffee, a man entered and sat down beside us. He called the waiter and ordered, "Two cups of coffee, 1of them there on the wall." We heard this with great 2 and saw that he was served with one cup of coffee but he paid for two. As soon as he left, the waiter3 put a piece of paper on the wall saying "A Cup of Coffee". While we were still there, two other men had two cups of coffee but paid for three. 4 the waiter did the same thing. It seemed that this was usual at this place. However, it was something strange for us. Since we had nothing to do with the5, we finished our coffee, paid and left.

    After a few days, we again had a 6to go to this coffee shop. While we were enjoying our coffee, a man entered. The way this man was dressed did not match the 7 of this coffee shop. As he seated himself, he looked at the wall and said, "One cup of coffee from the wall." The waiter served coffee to this man with the same8. The man had his coffee and left without paying. The waiter took off a piece of paper from the 9 and threw it in the dust bin. Now there was no 10 for us. The great kindness for the people in need shown by the people of this town filled up our eyes with tears.

    One evening a young woman walked on the beach. She 1 to see the footsteps（足迹） she had left in the sand, but they had already been washed away by the water. When she turned to continue her walk, She was surprised to see an old woman 2 by a fire.

    She walked up to the old woman and asked,”Where did you come from? I didn't see you here a minute ago.

    3answering her question, the old woman said, ”Sit with me, my child. I have something to show you.”

    As the young woman sat down beside the fire, the old woman handed her a book. But when she turned to the next page, she found it empty. And the rest of the pages in the book were all empty.

    “Does this mean my life ends tonight?” she asked.

    At that time the old woman took the book into her hands and began to tear(撕掉)each of the pages that had words out of the book. She then threw 7 into the fire until all left were empty pages. She handed the book of empty pages to the young woman.

    “You see,” she said, “just as the water washed away your footsteps in the sand, your past is forever gone. What you 8 have is here and now. Each moment is the beginning of the rest of your life and you should live it to the fullest, because you won't live that moment a(an) 9 time. For your future, you are free to shape it as you wish, 10 it has not yet been written.”

    Once there was a father and a son. They were ill-tempered and never gave way to 1.

    One day the father decided to ask some friends to dinner in his house. He 2his son to buy some meat in town. When the son got what his father wanted, he turned 3 and walked towards the town gate. Just then a man was coming from the outside. The gate wasn't 4enough to let two men in and out at the same time. But 5of them would give way to the other. They 6straight face to face inside the gate hour after hour. But the father was worried. "What shall I do? My son hasn't 7yet. I can't wait any longer." He wanted to know what was the 8with his son. So he left his friends at home, and he himself went to town to look for his son.

    "You may first take the 9 home for my friends. Let me stand here against him10." He said to his son when he knew what had happened.

    Prana, our beautiful dog, isn't with us anymore. She died several years ago. But while sharing our home, she brought so much joy and love into our lives that we still 1 her.

    It was an autumn day in Minnesota, US. We were 2 by a big snowfall for which no one was prepared. We have two 3 trees in our backyard. Prana loved apples. When she went outside, she'd catch an apple and sneak (偷偷地放) it into the 4 . The apples had been on the ground and were often muddy (沾满泥的). So I wasn't always 5 that Prana had brought them into the house. Every time, she would turn her head so I wouldn't see her hidden 6. It was our little game.

    One year, it snowed earlier than usual. Prana went outside. I noticed that she was madly digging holes and bringing the apples to the 7so they could be seen above the snow. She seemed busy digging up as many apples as possible during her yard time. I wondered 8 she was doing this.

    When I called her back into the house  she had her usual one apple in her mouth. About five minutes later, I looked outside. The yard was full of birds. Prana had 9 all those apples for her bird and squirrel friends to eat. She knew that they didn't have enough food to 10 such an early winter!

    As I saw this beautiful act, tears filled my eyes. Prana taught us how to live life with love.
