International Women's Day is on March 8 every year. On this day, people celebrate the achievements of women all over the world and continue to fight for basic rights (权利) for women.

How did it start? 

In 1908, women in New York City wanted the right to vote. They also hoped to acquire shorter working hours and better pay. Then, in 1910 in Denmark, a woman called Clara Zetkin had the idea for an international day for women. The first International Women's Day happened the next year.

Why do we need a special day for women? 

In many countries, men get higher pay than women for doing the same job. Men get a better education and better health care, and do less work at home. Men also get better chances than women to get their jobs. We need a change for women so that women can have the same chances as men.

How is International Women's Day celebrated? 

People usually celebrate by remembering important women in history, like Emmeline Pankhurst, Rosa Parks, Marie Curie...It's a very long list! They made great achievements in their fields.

People also have special events to celebrate it. In some countries, boys and men celebrate this day, too!

If you want to celebrate this important day, you could:

⒈learn about an important girl or woman in your country (for example, in sports, science or history) and tell your classmates about her；

⒉ask your teacher if you can do a class project about this day.

Many months ago, I made a(n) 1 to myself. I put some money in my wallet, and planned to give the money to the person in need.

 When my daily life got busy, I didn't 2 my word. But today, when walking on a busy street, I passed an old lady. She couldn't see anything. She reached her hand out on the corner(角落). I remembered the money in my wallet. I took out the money and put it into her hand 3 and slowly. I closed her fingers over the money 4 she could feel the money and understand my action.

 The lady nodded(点头) her head a little bit. I felt like I achieved something. I kept my promise to myself. What a small but 5 action!

I once worked as a volunteer at a Children's Hospital in Cape Town, South Africa. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (I) job was to help make the kids feel happy when they were in the hospital. Sounds interesting, right? {#blank#}2{#/blank#} some people can't understand why I did it.

 Let me show you. My first reason was to help create a better future for people. Look at the children in the hospital where I worked. They {#blank#}3{#/blank#}( feel) scared and lonely facing all the difficulties because their parents had other kids to care for. So, why not try {#blank#}4{#/blank#} ( help) as many people as possible?

Also, volunteering in Africa and helping people there let me see other {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (párt) of this planet. And volunteering at the hospital opened {#blank#}6{#/blank#} window for me to touch the unknown world. I met people from all over the world, each with their own ideas, experiences, and dreams. We got to share so much with each other {#blank#}7{#/blank#} ( happy).

I really felt close {#blank#}8{#/blank#} these people. We shared amazing memories and grew together. Now I {#blank#}9{#/blank#}( stay) in my country and working with the experiences and ideas. And together we can help {#blank#}10{#/blank#} ( many) people and create a better future for everyone!

Molly ran back home from school and dropped her schoolbag on the sofa. Then on the table she saw "Mum's Wish Book". "Mum," she said excitedly to herself, "this year уоu'll get the gloves you want！" Molly saved her 1 all уear to buy Mum the gloves.

She opened "Mum's Wish Book" and hoped that she could find these 2 in it. Mum wouldn't buy them for herself, because the family had a 3 time on the farm.Molly ran out by the back door and went straight to the post office. "I need to buy a stamp to 4 the form," she said to Mr. Smith, the only worker in the post office. 

And she told him that was a Christmas gift for her mother, and wanted him to help her to 
keep the 5 .When she was back home, she told Dad this secret. "You've got to check thе mailbox every day," said Molly 6 to Dad. Hе nodded, with a big smile.

Coming home from school every day, Mollу peeked at （偷看） Dad when Mum wasn't 7 , but every time he shook his head. On Christmas Eve, Dad came back from the mailbox, still empty handed. Molly felt 8 .

Before Christmas dinner, as Mum took the apple pies out of the oven, Molly began 9 the table. Suddenly, they saw Mr. Smith making his way to the door, with a box in his hand. Mr. Smith 10 Mum the box, "I believe this is yours." Mum looked from Dad to Molly and opened the box. Her eyes lit up when she saw the gloves. "Oh, who bought these for me?" she asked.

"Santa did," said Molly smilingly.
