任务型阅读

When I was young, my family lived a hard life in the country. The roads in the country are not good.  One evening we were visiting some relatives and the weather was very bad. Dad carried me on his back. Mum gave her coat to my brother. We walked together in the rain for more than one hour.

I was fat at that time and Dad held me for a long time. He almost fell down many times. I tried to get down and walk myself, but I couldn't do anything because I was just a little kid.

The rain had come through the leak(有裂缝的) roof and water was everywhere. Mum put bowls all around the house to try to catch the rain.  She carefully placed us on the remaining dry place. I fell asleep soon. When I opened my eyes, I found Dad and Mum were sleeping in chairs, both having caught a bad cold.

A. As you can imagine they are difficult to walk on.

B. I thought he must be tired.

C  It began to rain on our way back home.

D. Then she put me and my elder brother to bed.

E. We didn't say any word on the way.

F. When we arrived home, the inside of our house was full of rain water.

K.L. Rothey, 71, from the United States, a retired lawyer (退休律师)

Rothey has given himself the Chinese name of Luqi or “roadside beggar (乞丐)”. In his eyes, beggars are doing important work—collecting rubbish. What they do is not dirty.

Rothey first visited China in 1984 and soon he became interested in Chinese culture. Married to a Chinese woman, he lived in Huangshi. Many people know him because he often shows up in the street collecting rubbish. “Huangshi is my home so I hope it becomes cleaner and more beautiful,” says Rothey. He has also organized volunteers to collect rubbish in other cities, including Wuhan.

Jill Robinson, 50, from Britain, founder (创立者) and CEO of Animals Asia Foundation.

She has been working for nearly 20 years to stop people from getting the bile (胆汁) from moon bears. She began working for the International Fund for Animal Welfare in Hong Kong in the mid-1980s. A business trip to a bear farm in 1993 changed her life. She saw so many moon bears killed by people. She said she would be back to set them free.

In 1998, she set up the Animal Foundation. In July 2000, the foundation agreed to free 500 farmed moon bears. In 2002, the Moon Bear Rescue (救援) Center was set up in Chengdu.

“As much as we save them, they save us. These bears save us every day and they teach us to be better people,” Robinson says.

"I sometimes get up at three or four in the morning to surf the Intern"

"I check my e-mail almost forty times a day."

"I seldom spend less than three hours each time on the net."

"spend more time in chat rooms than with my 'real-life' friends."

Do you know any people like these? They are part of a new addiction(瘾) called Internet addiction. According to experts,Internet addicts(迷)spend at least thirty to forty hours online every week. They lose control of the time they spend on the Internet.

For example, one college student was missing for several days. His friends were worried and 1ooked for him everywhere but couldn't find him. They called the police. The police found the student in the computer lab: he was surfing the Internet — for seven days straight.

A study shows that about six to ten percent of Internet users become addicted. The teenager spend more time on the Internet than with friends and family. That's why some experts worry most about young people.

Is "surfing the Internet" a hobby or all addiction for you? You may have a problem if you have one of the following symptoms(症状):

You go out with your friends less and less.

You can't wait to get online again.

You've decided to spend a short time online, but then you spend several hours.

You do not go to important family events or you do not do school projects because you like to spend hours on the Internet.

What is the solution? Some experts suggest that people set strict limits(限制) on their time for Internet use. You have to learn to control it,or the Internet would control you.

In the UK, bus journeys are very common. Buses are often convenient(便利的)for the people who live or work in the city center. Passengers can avoid heavy traffic and do not have to pay for the parking. However, taking the bus is just a necessary but boring part of life: they get on the bus, pay for it and sit down or find a place to stand when it is crowded. Everyone seems sad and bored.

In Latin America, however, bus trips can be wonderful. For a start, films are showed on the buses between cities for passengers to have fun along the journeys. Local buses do not show films. but drivers usually turn on the radio and it can be great for passengers to listen to songs and get relaxed.

Even better than films and music are the sights and sounds on the buses. Local buses always go to parts of the town that passengers would not visit by themselves. There passengers can see shops that they have never heard about. And they can also see other cultures of the town from the windows of the buses.

Besides passengers' luggage(行李)is also interesting. It is common to see a happy dog's head getting out of somebody's bag or a lovely chicken "speaking cheerfully "under somebody's arm. Once on a bus in Peru a farmer even tied a sheep to the top of the bus. It was quite surprising.

In all, taking the bus in Latin America is really fun and unforgettable.
