One rainy morning, my phone woke me up. It was a phone call from a1 driver who had my friend's mobile phone. 2 , my friend had left it in the taxi the night before.

 A 3morning for taxi drivers in this big city is a very busy time. He asked me where he could meet me to give me the mobile phone. I told him the street where I lived. Then I quickly 4and got dressed in order to meet   5 on the corner.

 My friend had only recently moved to this city. So his mobile phone was very  6 to him.

 When the taxi driver arrived, I thanked him and praised him  7 having such a kind and beautiful heart. I asked him for his name,  8 my friend himself could thank him. He said my praises and 9 were all that he needed. Then he drove off.

 I told my friend how I had received his 10 . Hearing this, he was thankful and said kindness was really everywhere in this world.

    This morning I got an e-mail from Roy. It seems that my boy really enjoys his new life at Harvard University.  The 1 made me think of the first day when we moved into this house.

    Little Roy ran around the new house with great excitement and tried to move his own things into the house such as his toys, books and clothes. 2 , his little hand knocked over（打翻）a bottle of paint on the shelf. The paint made the tidy floor and white wall a terrible mess . “Oh, my God!” My wife rushed in angrily. I looked at my son, and his small face was filled with 3 .

    I 4 and held his hand, “Take it easy, Roy. Now let's do something to make it look  5 .” I took out a 6. “You see, Dad is a magician（魔术师）, I can change it into a big tree.” 

    His mother soon helped paint some butterflies and flowers on the wall.

    We spent the whole afternoon 7and laughing. The wall became a beautiful forest with plants, birds and small animals. Blue sky and white clouds were also painted by Roy. On that day, everybody in the house knew  8 special happened. 

    The night before Roy left for Harvard, he asked me if I still remembered the day when he had knocked over the paint. “Since then I've  9worried about making mistakes,” he continued, “I believe I can always 10ways to solve the problems.”

    Many years ago there was a poor man. He had1his garden, an orange tree. On the tree there were many fine oranges.2he found one 3his oranges was much bigger4the others. It was as 5as a football. Nobody had ever seen6orange. The poor man took the orange to the king(国王). The king was so happy7he gave the man a lot of money for it.

    When a rich man heard of it, he said to himself, "It's only an orange. Why has the king given so much money8it? I'll take my gold (金子) cup to the king. He'll give me9money."

    The next day when the king received the gold cup, he said to the rich man, "What a beautiful cup! I'll show you 10, please take this great orange."

    Several weeks ago, our headmaster, Mr. Brown, told us that our school had been chosen to compete on Smart Aleck-a game show. My best friend Nancy and I both 1 it. Nancy has a good imagination, and I know a lot of history. So we thought we'd be good 2 for the team.

    A few days later, Mr. Brown held a meeting with everyone interested in the 3 .He told us that Smart Aleck used a five-member team and three more people would be needed as backup (替补). Mr. Brown said we would have a 4 among all the students present and the top eight scorers would become the team and the backup. Everybody agreed that this was a 5 way to decide.

    Yesterday, all of the hopefuls got together. Mr. Brown acted as the host. After a couple of hours, all the places on the team were set 6 one. Nancy and I tied(打成平手)for that last position. We had to hold a one-on- one competition. The winner would be on the team and the loser would be the 7 .

    Midway through our two-person competition, I was starting to pull 8 . Then I saw the look on Nancy's face. I waited for a second and knew 9 I had to do. As much as I wanted to be on Smart Aleck, Nancy wanted it even more. So, starting with my next question, I held back and let Nancy 10 , just by a little bit. When she 11 she would be on the show, she felt sorry for my not being on the team. However, I will still have the 12 of seeing the show up close.

    Was I 13 by not trying as hard as I could? I don't think so. No one noticed, and Nancy and I didn't say it. It won't hurt the team 14Nancy will be a very good competitor on the real show. I think that making my best friend happy was the 15 thing to do.

    A father and his daughter were flying a kite in the park. The young daughter was a little bit tired, so they took a1 on the beach when the daughter saw an old man selling apples, she asked her father to buy her an apple. Her father didn't bring much money with him but it was enough to buy two apples. So he did, and gave2of them to his daughter, smiling. His daughter held one apple in her left hand and the other in the right hand. Then the father asked her if she could 3one of the apples with him. When the girl heard this, she quickly took a bite from one apple. And before her father could speak she also took a bite from the 4 apple. The father was5.He wondered what mistake he made so that his daughter acted in such a greedy way. He was lost in thought. Perhaps he was just thinking too much. His daughter was too6 to understand about sharing and giving. A smile disappeared from his face. Suddenly, his daughter with an apple in her left hand said, "Daddy have this one! It is much juicer and7. "Her father was speechless. He felt8 about making the judgment so quickly about a small child. But his smile9 knowing why his daughter quickly took a bite from each apple. Don't judge anything or draw a conclusion too quickly.10 spare some more time to understand things better.
