Most families love to go on holiday together. It is great fun to leave your common life behind and go somewhere different and exciting!

{#blank#}1{#/blank#} Some people enjoy traveling around cities and visiting museums. Other people prefer outdoor holidays, where you can hike or go boating. Some people like cruises, where the huge ship is like a hotel.

Many families go on holiday in summer, when schools are closed.{#blank#}2{#/blank#}In the past, most British families would take their holidays at a British seaside town. However, now many people choose to go abroad instead. One reason for this is to escape（躲藏）the possibility of rain at home! France, Spain and Greece are popular destinations（目的地）.

In the United States, summer holidays often involve a road trip.{#blank#}3{#/blank#}It is common to drive hundreds of miles to get to your destination. If the beach is too far away, you could go to one of the national parks. Many people love to enjoy the natural beauty of places such as Yellowstone or the Grand Canyon.

{#blank#}4{#/blank#} In winter, many people go skiing. The Alps are a very popular place to ski. The mountain scenery is truly wonderful! You can try downhill skiing, cross-country skiing or snowshoeing.

No matter what kind of holiday you take, there are two things that nearly everyone does. The first is to send postcards to friends and family at home, so they can see a photo of the place where you are. The second is to buy some sort of souvenir（纪念品）so that you can remember your trip—maybe a T-shirt or an art piece. {#blank#}5{#/blank#}

Booking a museum ticket this past summer was not easy. Visitors often found that tickets for the following week had been fully booked. 

     ★    To many museum staff, such crowds had not been seen before. So, what was behind this "museum craze"? 

Part of the reason is a growing interest in traditional Chinese culture, according to Guo Sike. He is in charge of the Confucius (孔子) Museum in Shandong province. 

"Nowadays, young Chinese love traditional Chinese culture," said Guo. He added that modern technologies have also played a role. They allow people to experience and appreciate traditional culture in more ways. 

The Shanxi History Museum in the city of Xi'an also saw an increase in visitors. The museum can only allow 12, 000 people to visit each day. Its ticket booking platform, however, received more than 600, 000 clicks a day. To solve the problem, the museum called off its Monday closures (闭馆). It was also open for more hours on Sundays. 

Popular study tours (游学) also helped bring more people to museums. The Confucius Museum saw many of these tours. In order to meet their needs, it organized several different activities. For example, there were exhibitions to show people the Kong family's customs. 

In Xi'an, the Qinqiang Opera was a popular subject of study tours. Local museums offered chances to learn the culture. For example, visitors could wear the performer's costumes and learn to sing the opera. 

"People love the more hands-on travel experiences," said Yang Rong from the Shanxi Tourism Association. 

"Museums are bridges. They connect the past, present and future," said Yang Chaoming a professor at Shandong University. "More and more people wish to. better learn about traditional Chinese culture through museum visits."

How much pocket money do you get from your parents each week? British researchers did a survey of 1,204 children between 8 and 15 years old. According to the reports, they are getting less and less pocket money.

However, children are not too worried about it, according to the survey. Almost half of them believe they get the right amount. Only 42 percent say they would like to have more pocket money. Most kids like to compare their pocket money with their friends. In the survey, 37 percent believe their friends get more money than they do.

Although they are receiving less pocket money than before, most British kids still keep the good habit of saving, according to the survey.

"It is good to develop the habit of saving at a young age," said Flavia Palacios Uman, one of the researchers. "You will benefit later in life because your savings will add up over time."

Lin has a few e-friends from different countries. He is telling something about them. 

Both cats and dogs are popular pets (宠物). Most families, however, can keep only one pet. It can be hard to decide to take a cat or a dog into your home. Here, some middle school students are having a cats VS dogs debate (辩论). 

Group A: Donna Walker   We think cats are better for most families. Many people want to keep a pet, but they live a busy life. People don't have to take cats outside to use the bathroom. Instead, they just use a litter box. Their owners (主人) only need to keep the litter box clean. They don't need to worry if they are away at work for most of the day. 

Group B: Gary Hall   No, dogs are better. Just think about why you want to keep a pet. Dogs can bring you lots of happiness. When you go back home from school or work, your dog will always welcome you at the door with excitement. When you walk into your room, you may hardly expect your cat to be too excited about seeing you. What's the point in keeping such a pet?

Group A: Brian Ross   Well, cats usually live longer than dogs. Most cats can live up to 15 years while most dogs only have 13 years on the earth. Isn't it nice to be able to spend more time with your pet?

Group B: Annie Miller   But dogs are more loyal. A dog never leaves its owner no matter what happens. Dogs also keep you safe. If a bad man tries to break into your house, your dog will drive him away with loud barks (吠叫). 

Group A: Paula Lee   Yeah, dogs make so much noise! Some dogs bar k at almost every stranger, but are there so many bad men? Cats, however, are quiet most of the time. 

Group B: Eric Bell   Dogs can be trained well. Cats have claws (爪子) and they are interested in everything. They can cause much more trouble!
