    The day before yesterday, my friend and I were going home{#blank#}1{#/blank#}I found a smart phone by the pavement. After picking it up, I suggested that we {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(go) to the store near{#blank#}3{#/blank#}we found the smart phone. And we did so. There were two young women there. However, neither of them had{#blank#}4{#/blank#}(lose) their phones. But as I referred{#blank#}5{#/blank#}some names on the name list in the phone, one of them said she also had those{#blank#}6{#/blank#}(name) and that it must be the phone of one of their friends. With a second check I finally handed over the smart phone. She took the phone and said how wonderful it was that I took the time {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(find) the owner. Afterwards, I left without{#blank#}8{#/blank#} (leave) my name or address. I never considered keeping the smart phone. Instead, I immediately tried to find the owner.     I was very happy when my friend Mary came to visit me from England. Her destination {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(be) Beijing and the architectural heritage of China. She felt it was out of the question for her to visit China without {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (go) to see the terracotta warriors, so I helped her arrange a tour to Xi'an. It was {#blank#}9{#/blank#}outstanding success and Mary returned to England with wonderful {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (memory) of her holiday in China.

    I will never forget that at the age of nine I was asked to deliver a speech entitled A challenge in My Life before the whole class!

    You can imagine how{#blank#}1{#/blank#}(terrible)shy I was the moment I thought of that—with so many eyes{#blank#}2{#/blank#}(fix) upon me. I could do nothing but{#blank#}3{#/blank#}(prepare) for it, though. First, I was to draft the speech, which was just a piece of cake for me, a good writer. Actually with my confidence building up, I now turn out to be a great speaker. Looking back, I know the greatest difficulty on our way {#blank#}9{#/blank#} success is our fear. Overcome it, {#blank#}10{#/blank#} you will be able to achieve your goals.

    Everyone needs to know how to prevent a fire. It is also important to know what to do when it {#blank#}1{#/blank#}（break）out .

    Every year, over 11, 000 people {#blank#}2{#/blank#}（kill）or injured in house fires. These fires could have been avoided. Smokers who are {#blank#}3{#/blank#}（care）cause about 200 deaths and over 6,000 fires. More than half of those {#blank#}4{#/blank#} die in fires are poisoned or harmed by smoke.

    If fire happens, do not attempt to fight the fire unless it is small. Try putting out a small fire with water. If {#blank#}5{#/blank#} fire has spread or if the flames are more than 20 inches high, shut the door on it. Warn everyone else in the building and tell them to get out. You should leave and dial 119for the fire department.

    Before {#blank#}6{#/blank#}（go）into a room, check the door. If the handle or the door is hot, do not open it! Instead, put clothing or a wet towel at the bottom of it to keep smoke out. If the door is not hot, open it {#blank#}7{#/blank#}（slow）. If there's a rush of smoke or heat, close it again and shout to warn {#blank#}8{#/blank#}（other）in side.

    Now open the window and shout “Fire!”. See whether you can drop safely to the ground. Use this {#blank#}9{#/blank#} your escape course if you can. If you are not on ground level, break your fall by pushing a mat out first. Lower yourself at arm's {#blank#}10{#/blank#}（long）before dropping. Once outside, stay outside and make sure the fire department is called.

    An old Spanish proverb goes, “Tomorrow is often the busiest day of the week.” How many times have we put off our dreams until tomorrow? Too many. Our dreams should not, and cannot wait. It is universally{#blank#}1{#/blank#}(acknowledge) that everybody is going to die at one point. None of us know{#blank#}2{#/blank#}day, or the hour. You can dream about writing a great American play, {#blank#}3{#/blank#}it is never going to happen if you don't actually put pen to paper. One of the biggest dream killers is fear. There are so many people who could have achieved{#blank#}6{#/blank#}(amaze) things if only they weren't afraid. Just think about all the things you wanted to do, but allowed fear to convince you that you weren't {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(capability) or good enough.
