An eight-year-old child heard her parents talking about her little brother. All she knew was that he was very sick and they had no money. Only a very expensive operation (手术) could save him now and there was no one to lend them the money. When she heard her daddy say to her tearful mother， “Only a miracle (奇迹) can save him now，” the little girl went to her bedroom and pulled her money from its hiding place and counted it carefully. She ran to a drugstore（药店）with the money in her hand.

    “And what do you want?” asked the salesman.

    “It's for my little brother，” the girl answered. “He's really， really sick and I want to buy a miracle.”

    “Pardon?” said the salesman.

    “My brother Andrew has something bad growing inside his head and my daddy says only a miracle can save him. So how much does a miracle cost?”

    “We don't sell a miracle here， child. I'm sorry，” the salesman said with a smile.  

    “Listen， if it isn't enough， I can try and get some more. Just tell me how much it costs.”

     A well-dressed man heard it and asked， “What kind of a miracle does your brother need?”

    “I don't know，” she answered with her eyes full of tears. “He's really sick and mum says he needs an operation. But my daddy can't pay for it， so I have brought all my money.”

    “How much do you have?” asked the man.

    “$ 1.11， but I can try and get some more，” she answered.

    “Well， what luck，” smiled the man. “$ 1.11， the price of a miracle for little brothers.” He took up the girl's hand and said， “Take me to where you live. I want to see your brother and meet your parents. Let's see if I have the kind of miracle you need.”

    That well-dressed man was Dr Carlton Armstrong， a famous doctor. The operation was successful and it wasn't long before Andrew was home again

    How much did the miracle cost?

    Last Tuesday, Mr. Chen was reading a book in his office after school. To his surprise, a ball flew in suddenly and hit him on the head. He took the ball to the window, but he only saw a group of boy students running away quickly and they disappeared in a minute. He sat down again and went on with his reading.

    After about two hours, it got dark. Mr. Chen decided to leave for home. Looking at the ball, he wanted to know what to do with it. He knew the owner（主人） of the ball must want to get it back. He got out of his office and walked to the playground. He put the ball at the center of the playground with a piece of paper on it. He wrote on the paper, "Be careful next time, my boy!" Then he walked away.

    The next morning, when Mr. Chen opened his office, he found the same piece of paper on the floor. Some words were behind it, "Thank you for your kindness （好意）, sir. You are a great man."

When I was in school, I volunteered to work in a hospital for some time.

On one visit, I carefully entered a dark room  {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(find) an elderly man lying in bed. I firstly thought he was sleeping. When I moved much  {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(close), however, I realised he was very much awake. He wanted to communicate something,   {#blank#}3{#/blank#}I couldn't make sense of what he was saying. He seemed quite weak, and I couldn't tell if he  {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(be) in pain or just frightened. I knew nothing  {#blank#}5{#/blank#}him, and I felt totally helpless. He clearly didn't want me to leave him, but I felt so lost and uncomfortable that I had to leave the room after only a couple of  {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(minute).

The next time I was at  {#blank#}7{#/blank#}same hospital and saw him again, he immediately said,"I remember you. You gave me hope in my darkest hour that evening!"I was so  {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(surprise) that I didn't know how to answer.

In the short moment of  {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(I)staying there, I did nothing at all. But surprisingly he found something he needed in me, just  {#blank#}10{#/blank#} I was there.

I have thought about this thing often over the past years. It makes me want to offer whatever kindness I can to others, and I try to make it out and appreciate (欣赏) it.

There was once a king who had a great palace with a wonderful garden. He was happier than1 else there. In the garden, there lived all kinds of animals. All of them enjoyed2 there.

The king was very happy with the whole garden except for3 old tree in the centre of the garden. It was 4 old and dry that the king hated it very much. Finally, the king ordered some people5 it down and turn the place into a swimming pool.6 after the tree was cut down, the animals left the garden. Without the animals, the garden was not as7 as before. The king was sad, but he didn't know what had happened.

The documentary (纪录片), Jane, tells the life story of Jane Goodall, a zoologist from the UK. Goodall was born in England in 1934. When Goodall was a kid, she 1 living among wild animals, talking with them and learning about them one day. That 2 came when Goodall was 26 years old. She was asked to 3 chimpanzees (黑猩猩) living in Tanzania, an African country.

Mike is my pen pal. He's thirteen years old. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} . His grandparents have a big farm. They work on their farm every day. Today is Sunday. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} He asks his classmates to visit his grandparents' farm. In the morning, they take a bus to the farm. When（当······时候）they get to the farm， his grandparents are very glad to see them.
