If you were in Xi'an in Shanxi Province on April 18, you might feel like you were back in ancient China. There were catwalk shows and traditional music concerts held by people wearing traditional Chinese clothing, or huafu. Huafu fans from across the country got together there to take pictures and post them online for a huafu photo competition, which will last for a month. People were doing these to celebrate a new national holiday — the first China Huafu Day. It wants to encourage young Chinese to be proud of traditional clothing, as well as classic Chinese culture.

The government chose the third day of the third month of the Chinese lunar calendar(农历) as China Huafu Day. This day is said to be the birthday of the. Yellow Emperor. This year, the China Huafu Day fell on April 18.

Huafu includes the traditional clothing of all ethnic (民族的) groups in China. Among them, hanfu, the traditional clothing of the Han ethnic group, has the most fans in recent years. Hanfu is the traditional clothing of the Han people who lived in China before the Qing Dynasty. It has been around for about 3,000 years and changed greatly across different dynasties. It is hard to count the number of people who wear hanfu today. But hanfu clubs may be found almost in every university and city. Many young people wear hanfu to look like characters from comics and games. This really brings us back to the ancient fashion.

"China is becoming a leading power in the world, and the Chinese feel more confident about its traditional culture," Chen Chuyu, leader of a Beijing-based hanfu institution (学院), told People's Daily Online.     The Oxford English Dictionary(OED)is thinking of adding the Chinese word tuhao to its 2014 edition(版本). The word has become popular in China since 2013. It is used to describe rich people who spend money in extravagant(奢侈的)ways. The word has also become popular in Western countries, too.

The word being used by people in foreign countries is an example of China's spreading influence in the world in not just economy(经济), but also society and culture. People are paying attention to what is happening in China and are gradually picking up some Chinese words. These words express special Chinese ideas, but they cannot be easily translated into English.

The OED is also thinking of adding hukou and dama to the 120 Chinese words that have been collected in its dictionary. Hukou means China's system(制度)that makes sure Chinese people can live in a certain place, and dama means middle-aged Chinese women who influence the global gold markets because of their gold-buying habits.

The news that the OED will include these Chinese words has been criticized. Some people say the words can be embarrassing to some people in China, but others think that it's natural for words to spread and be used in other places. In fact, the word tuhao expresses the humor of China. It is easy to pronounce and it makes fun of rich people who have more money than taste.

So, welcome to the English language, tuhao-let's be friends!

A city without cars would be very strange, right? But Venice is such a city.

Venice is in the north-east of Italy. It wasn't built on land, like Beijing or Shanghai, but on more than 110 islands. Seawater is everywhere around the city.

Even so, travel isn't difficult. The waterways have always been the best way to get around. There are 177 waterways and more than 400 bridges that can guide you where you want to go. People in Venice move from place to place by boat. They like to enjoy the scenery and the cool summer night while taking boat trips. They can talk to other people as they go along.

Venice grew out of small islands in saltwater lakes when some Italians escaped from a war over 1, 500 years ago, and built homes there.

Water makes the city special, but it is also a big problem. Sometimes tourists will have such strange experiences. One moment they walk across the Rialto Bridge, and there's nothing special but when they come back to the bridge an hour later, it's underwater and everyone is wearing rain shoes.

Once, people used too much underground water. This made the city get lower little by little. Now the city has gone down by 23 centimetres. Another problem is the rising seawater. The temperature has risen over the years. This has made the ice of the Arctic Ocean (北冰洋) melt (融化).

Every year, high waters hit the city in autumn and winter. When a lot of water comes, more than half of the city is underwater.

Scientists are trying different ways to stop the city from getting even lower. The Italian government has asked some of Italy's biggest companies to build the MOST project, which was planned to be built under the seawater to stop the rising water. Anyway, this project is helping solve the problem.
