Spider monkeys are New World primates(灵长类). They get their names because they have very long limbs(四肢) and tails, which make them look like spiders. They are often seen with their limbs on different branches.

Spider monkeys can be in tropical forests of Central and South America, from southern Mexico to Brazil. They are 35 to 66 centimeters long and weigh 13 to 26 pounds. They have long tails that they use to catch tree branches, kind of like a 5th hand.

Spider monkeys live in groups. One group usually has dozens of spider monkeys. They communicate with each other through screeches (尖叫声). At night, spider monkeys break off into smaller sleeping parties of about half a dozen or fewer. Unlike many other primates, males (雄性) stay together throughout their lives with the females. They leave their first groups to find another group.

When they go out to look for food, spider monkey groups take separate actions in order to avoid competition for it. They mainly eat fruit and nuts. They also eat other things like insects, honey, leaves, spiders and bird eggs. Spider monkeys actually play an important part in the spreading of seeds throughout the South American rain forests. Enemies that they need to keep an eye out for include animals like lions and crocodiles.

Spider monkeys are dying out. Woodcutting, which leads to the loss(丧失) of their natural living places, is playing a big role in their loss. These monkeys are also hunted for food, or to sell as pets. Spider monkeys are actually one of the most popular monkey pets around because of their look and their behavior. We must do something to protect them. After all, such good and interesting monkeys should live with humans for many years to come.

It's not a good habit to eat when you are watching TV. You may put too much into your mouth. It will make you fat and is not good for your health. If you have the habit and would like to give it up, here are some tips to help you. 

Eat at the kitchen table

It's fine to have a snack while watching TV, but take a break and move over to the table to have your snack, and then come back to the TV. 

Set limits(限制)

It can be helpful to think ahead and set limits. Try to eat just one cup of popcorn (not the whole bag) and only watch one or two episodes(剧集) of your show. 

Choose wisely

If you want to eat snacks in the evening hours, choose something that's not sugary or caffeinated (含咖啡因的). 

Give your hands something to do

Find an activity that will keep your hands busy while you're watching TV, like cleaning the house or doing exercise.

Sometimes watching TV with other people can be helpful because we don't eat that much when we're with someone else.

However, one common problem is leaning new words and then forgetting them. So, when you want to use a new word in a conversation, you can't remember it at that moment. Does this often happen to you? The reason for this difficulty is that most students try to learn vocabulary by studying word lists and dictionaries and remembering the words. But it may not work if you don't have a very good memory.

The best way to learn vocabulary and remember the words successfully is to learn new words and use them at once. You can do this with a very simple exercise. Each time you learn anew word, for example, from an English lesson or an article, write it down in your vocabulary notebook. Writing is more active than just reading a definition(释义). You should write the word, the definition in English or translation, one example sentence from the article or dictionary and one example sentence that you create.

Imagine you just learn the word "generous", write in your vocabulary notebook: generous(adjective), definition-giving or willing to give freely. Example One, from the article: Thanks for paying for my dinner, you're very generous. Example Two, my example: My brother is generous because he volunteers at the animal shelter on weekends. It's best if your example sentences are true to your life, because this creates a personal connection with the new word. The next day, read your vocabulary notebook again and try to add one more example sentence using the new word. It's helpful for you to remember it. These two simple steps-writing the word and using it at once-help you remember and use new words.
