If your answers are 'yes',then read on! Here are a few easy things you could do to get started.
Neighborhood watch
Neighborhood watchforms are very popular in the UK. If you go away on holiday and leave yourhouse, it's very nice to know that a neighbor iskeeping an eve on it. It'sa good way to make the area you live in safer.
Lending a hand
There are oftenelderly people living in the neighborhood who may not be able to do the thingsthat you can. Offer to do their shopping once a week, look after their gardenfor them or maybe walk their dog!
No littering
Nobody likes pickingup other people's rubbish, but a clean street can make all the difference. Takeit in turns to go out once or twice a week and see what you can find.
Recycling
Nearly two﹣thirds of your rubbish can be recycled. Some areas already provideplaces for people to recycle bottles, plastic and paper. Find out if this isdone in your neighborhood. If it's not, do something about it.

Imagine 50 years from now. Imagine the perfect school.
Getting to school is already difficult because of traffic. In 50 year' s time, it will be even more difficult. A solution is needed. Imagine there is a big cyber﹣school, but the classes are in many different places, both in the suburbs and the city. You would never need to walk more than 10 minutes to get to school.
Once you get there, there is no teacher speaking at the front of the class. Instead there is a large screen playing a video of the teacher. There is a classroom helper who walks around helping you with your problems. You can get the best teaching there, and you have a helper who can help you understand your work. You listen to the teacher for only 15 minutes. Then you work in teams to do group projects and solve problems together.
The days of pen and paper are gone. You each have your own computer and you do all your work and tasks on it. After classes finish, you can stay there and talk with your school friends.
You each have a lover to keep your personal things. There is a fridge to keep your lunch and a microwave to warm it. There are sofas to sit on when it's time to read a book.
Your class would always be cool in summer and warm in winter. There is solar and wind power on the roof of the building. Each room is kept at a comfortable temperature automatically.
The school of the future is high﹣tech, but it is a friendly place to bel.
Gina stood quietly on the left side of the stage. She wore a new pink dress. Her dancing shoes were bright and shining. She was ready.
The music started to play. It was nearly time for her to move onto the stage. She looked quickly and secretly at the hall. The seats were all full. All were looking at the stage and listening to the music. She could feel the excitement in the air. They had come to see her perform.
Suddenly Gina began to feel nervous. Her breathing was fast and she felt like she was unable to move. She dried her sweaty hands on her dress. Her knees began to shake and she felt weak. She was not sure that she could do this after all.
They were both smiling and looked so excited. Gina thought of all the long hours she had worked on her dancing and the many times her parents had waited while she practiced. She moved her foot slightly. She could feel the pain on her feet. It was from all those times of doing the same dance steps over and over again. Her body still ached from the hours of training. She had cried often when things got really difficult, but she had never given up her dream to perform on stage.
One more look at her parents, and she realized they were nervous for her too. Gina breathed deeply and stood up tall. It was time. She pointed a foot and moved gently onto the stage. She forgot her nerves and her fear. This was where she belonged﹣dancing on stage!
A. Her heart beat fast. B. She was very excited. C. She saw so many faces. D. Her hair was tied up neatly. E. She looked again and saw her parents. F. The music was calling her to come onto that stage. |

William Shakespeare(威廉·莎士比亚) is widely regarded as the most famous writer and poet of the English language and the world's excellent dramatist. He was born in England in 1564 and died in 1616. The works he left behind are made up of 38 plays, 154 sonnets (a poem that must be 14 lines long and have a particular style), 2 long narrative poems, and many other poems.
However, Willian Shakespeare is most famous for his plays which have been translated into every major living language and are performed more often than those of any other dramatist(戏剧家). Some of his well﹣known plays include A Midsummer Night's Dream, The Merchant of Venice, Hamlet, Romeo and Juliet, King Lear, Macbeth, and The Tempest.
All of his works remain popular with most of the people who enjoy reading classical English. University students who study English usually have to study at least one of Shakespeare's plays.
Shakespeare was born to a wealthy English family and went to a good school. He married a 26-year-old woman when he was only 18. Between 1585 and 1592, he began his successful career in London as an actor, a dramatist. It was in London that he wrote most of his plays. Although he was well known in his own day, he was not as famous as he is today.
After William Shakespeare's death, his fame continued to grow until he was considered to be the best poet and writer of his time, a status that he still retains(保持)today.
An AIDS (艾滋病)understanding program in Yunnan was started six years ago. It was held by the Chinese Red Cross. The program is a great way of making sure that people learn the facts about HIV/AIDS. It is so successful that it is running in several other provinces now.
The program not only provides care and support for the people who carry HIV/ADIS virus(病毒), but also trains young people to teach others about HIV/ADIS. In the program, the volunteers hold two﹣day classes to teach people about the virus and its links(相关)to drug use and sexual practices. They also work with students, drug(毒品)users and people who may be at risk of becoming infected(感染)by the virus.
The organizers of the program said that people knew about HIV/ADIS and how it was spread after taking part in it. HIV/ADIS was found mainly among drug users and those who had become infected through careless blood transfusion(输血)practices. Today, the number of young people becoming infected through sexual activity is increasing, so it is important to deal with this big problem.
The Chinese government predicts that unless action is taken right now, as many as 10million people could be infected with HIV/ADIS in China in the next nine years.
In June 2001, the Chinese central government announced a five﹣year plan for dealing with the spread of the disease(疾病). This plan focuses on better education about the virus, a national system to report cases of the disease and better practices for collecting blood.
