Reading is a very important skill. 阅读也是一种提高你的英语的好方法。However, to make sure what you read isn't too difficult, it's important to know what makes texts difficult and how you can improve your understanding of them. Here are some suggestions.

    ①Understand the purpose of your reading. The way you read depends on the purpose of your reading. The kind of reading you do in class or for your homework is different from how you read a novel for pleasure in the summer holidays.

    ② Find background information. Find something out about the topic you are going to read.

    The more background information you have, the easier it'll be to understand the text.

    ③Increase your vocabulary（词汇）. The more vocabulary you have, the easier your reading will be.

    ④ Use your dictionary correctly. A common mistake is to read everything very slowly and carefully, looking up each unknown word. Sometimes this is necessary, for example, when reading exam questions. However, it takes a long time and can be very boring; it can even make understanding more difficult!

    If you've followed the above advice and still can't understand a text, then it's simply too hard for you. Stop reading and ask someone to help you. 没有人想要放弃。However, you'll just be wasting your time if you continue to work at a text that's beyond you.

    The Beijing International Horticultural Exhibition（世界园艺博览会）,which is running from

    April 29 to Oct 7, will be attended by 110 countries and international organizations. It has 41 outdoor exhibition centers that will host about 2,500 activities. It is expected to draw around 16 million visitors from home and abroad.

    The theme of the expo is "Live Green, Live Better", aiming to introduce the world to a green, innovative（创新的）and harmonious（和谐的）China. Flowers and herbs from all over the world will be displayed at the expo.

    In addition, wildflowers will also be a highlight at the expo.

Sammie Vance, 14, knows there's nothing worse than feeling left out. For years, she's been helping kids who feel lonely make friends. 

What she was doing was running the Buddy Bench(伙伴长 椅 )program. She started it when she was in the third grade, in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The idea was that anyone at school who was feeling lonely could sit on the"buddy bench". That let other kids know someone needed a friend. "It's really helpful to have other people be able to notice you, "Sammie says. 

The idea quickly caught on (流行起来). The bench brought kids together. Since then, Sammie has helped communities all over the country set up buddy benches. "It means a lot to me, "she says, and this is making a difference in people's lives. "

Sammie got the idea for the Buddy Bench program at summer camp in 2017. She thought it would be cool to have a buddy bench in her school, so when she got home, she presented the idea to her principal(校长), her teachers, and her parents. 

Getting approval(批准)for the project was just the first step. "There have been a lot of small challenges, like money, "Sammie says. 

To reduce costs and be eco-friendly(环保的), she asked her community to collect bottle caps. Soon Sammie was getting caps from people in 50 states. She even got them from people in Germany, the Netherlands, and other countries. In the end, she collected more than 1, 200 pounds of bottle caps. A company was able to make these into three benches. 

Sammie says the effort has helped her overcome personal challenges. "I used to be really, really shy, "she says. I'm much more outgoing now. What Sammie's work shows is that we don't have to be an adult to make a difference. Even small acts of kindness can be powerful. She says, "Just be kind, in general. "

Tianxin Village is in Wanning, Hainan. About ten years ago, life was not easy there. There was only one {#blank#}1{#/blank#} to the village. People couldn't even buy things online {#blank#}2{#/blank#} there was no express (快递) service. 

However, Tianxin Village is just a few hundred meters away from Riyue Bay. Riyue Bay is famous{#blank#}3{#/blank#} its clean seawater. Millions of tourists {#blank#}4{#/blank#} their holidays in Riyue Bay every year. So lots of people began to think about starting their businesses (生意) in Tianxin Village because it is so {#blank#}5{#/blank#} to Riyue Bay.

Tang Xin was one of them. He started a homestay (民宿) business in Tianxin Village in 2021. "Many tourists to Riyue Bay would like to find a nearest {#blank#}6{#/blank#} to spend nights. And they always choose Tianxin Village," Tang says. 

Tianxin Village is {#blank#}7{#/blank#} faster and faster during these years. Many young locals (当地人) have come back from big cities. 25-year-old Hu Zhigang {#blank#}8{#/blank#} from Shenzhen in 2021. He now has a surfing club and teaches people how to surf. After opening the club, Hu wants to do more. {#blank#}9{#/blank#} next plan is to open a restaurant. 

Today, Tianxin Village has 35 homestays and 30 surfing clubs. The people there are working together to make a better {#blank#}10{#/blank#} for themselves and their village.
