Every Saturday night Mama would count the money Papa had brought home. Among the money, the big silver pieces (be) for the rent, and the others were for the groceries. Mama always (tell) us that we needn't go to the Bank, and we were all so proud Mama's Bank Account.
Nels's going to high school would cost much money, and Mama took out a box was the "Little Bank" used for sudden (emergency). Although there was not enough money, Mama didn't want to go to Bank. Papa gave smoking, and Nels volunteered to work in Dillon's grocery after school. I promised to look the Elvington children every Friday night. So there was enough money and we needn't draw money out of Mama's Bank Account.
Twenty years later, I sold my first story. When the check came, I hurried over to Mama and asked her (put) it in her Bank Account. Mama looked at me and told me that there was no account at all. She just didn't want us to be afraid.
