One of the strangest jobs at the Oscars is that of a seat-filler. When one of the1needs to go to the bathroom, a seat-filler2in the star's seat. That way, the TV cameras won't show any3seats. Kathy Muller talks about her night4a seat-filler:
I was told to reach the theater in the middle of the day, wearing my dress for the evening. There were about 200 seat-fillers, all very excited. We were told5we should and shouldn't do (for example, "Don't talk to the stars"), and then we waited6five o'clock. That's when the stars started coming.
The7started at six o'clock. We had to stand outside the doors. Then, when8came to go to the bathroom or have a cigarette (香烟), we were told to go and sit in their seat. The show was three hours long, and I only sat down five times. By the end, I was really9but I was happy,10during the evening, I sat behind Jim Carrey (he's very tall!) and close to Denzel Washington, Nicole Kidman and Julia Roberts. It was an exciting night, but I think the next year I'll watch the Oscars on TV at home like everyone else!
Television has a huge influence on our lives. It is one of the most important ways of getting information. People spend part of their spare time watching television, and much of what they learn comes from it.
What we see on TV-movies, news shows, sports shows, advertisements and so on have increased our knowledge and have changed the way we learn about the world today. However, not everything on TV is true.
Most of the viewers are children. Television sometimes is like a babysitter(保姆). It spends more time with children than parents do. But it keeps them in the living room away from healthy outdoor activities. They spend less time playing soccer or walking in the park or playing games in the yard.
Of course, there are some programs on TV that are good for children. But there are also some shows which are bad. Children should not watch unhealthy shows. Maybe we can't change what is on TV, but we can choose what we watch. Do you agree?

It was Saturday again. Grace and Karen disliked Saturdays. That was another thing the twins had in common. They shared the same clothes and tied their hair in the same manner. In fact, it was hard for their classmates and teachers to tell them apart sometimes.
Unlike their classmates, they had to get up early at seven every Saturday to prepare for their lessons. Grace had to attend the art lesson and Karen had to attend her ballet lesson. "How I wish I could do something different today," said the twins with one voice. All at once, an idea came to Grace and Karen at the same time. "How would you like to be me for a day?" they asked each other. It seemed like a wonderful plan to them. After giving each other a description of their own friends, Grace put on Karen's ballet dress while Karen put Grace's brushes and paints into her bag. Then they left for their classes.
When the art lesson started, Karen was lost. Unlike Grace, Karen was poor at drawing. When the art lesson finally ended, Karen didn't dare to hand in her work.
Meanwhile, Grace was struggling (挣扎) in the ballet class as well. As she had no idea about the dance steps, she had to follow her classmates blindly. As a result, she kept knocking into them. Their ballet teacher became impatient with her, "Karen, you should remember *the basic steps. You can't copy what others are doing."
When Karen and Grace got home, they were tired out. They decided that they would never try to be someone else they were not. It seemed that the grass was not always greener on the other side.
China and Western countries have something different in cultures about certain animals, but when it comes to pigs, we have the same idea- pigs are ugly, lazy and stupid.
Just look at some Chinese sayings such as "Boiling a dead pig" and "A pig looking in the mirror is still a pig." And in English, there are some expressions like "Eating like a pig" and "Pigs might fly." None of them are Complimentary.
However, pigs have some good qualities(品质). They are even as smart as dogs and elephants. They have good memories. And they know whether people treat them well or not.
A UK cartoon, Peppa Pig is a most popular cartoon. The four members in the pig family teach children from all around the world about love, friendship and the value of family. And a Chinese cartoon film, the Adventures of Mc Dull, is also very famous. In the cartoon, the little pig, Mc Dull, has a heart of gold and always works hard towards his dreams. Most people want quick success, but Mc Dull is slow and patient, and not afraid of failing again and again.
Maybe when we talk about pigs next time, we should think of their good qualities.
