A young man and an old man were waiting for a bus. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} sat next to each other. “What's that in your bag? ” asked the young man, pointing to a big bag beside the old man.“Gold. There was nothing but gold,” Answered the old man. The young man could not believe his won ears and was {#blank#}2{#/blank#}great amazement. Then he began to think about {#blank#}3{#/blank#}to get the gold. The old man was very tired and it seemed that he could hardly keep his eyes open. After a while the old man {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(lie) down on the chair and fell asleep.The young man took {#blank#}5{#/blank#}big bag gently and quietly. But when he was just about to run away, he found a corner of his fur coat was under the old man's body. Several times he tried to pull it out, {#blank#}6{#/blank#} in vain. At last he took off his coat, {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (think) that the gold in the bag must cost far more than his fur coat. Nervous but {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(delight), the young man ran out of the station as quickly as his legs could carry him until he reached a place {#blank#}9{#/blank#}he thought the old man couldn't find him. He stopped and quickly opened the bag but he just found a great many of small stones in it. Then he ran back to the station {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(hurry) only to find that the old man was gone.

    Not all memories are sweet. Some people spend all their lives trying to forget bad experiences.

   Now American researchers think they are close to developing a pill, {#blank#}1{#/blank#} will help people forget bad memories. The pill is {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(design)to be taken immediately after a frightening experience. They hope it might reduce, or {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(possible) erase (抹去) the effect of painful memories.

   In November, experts tested a drug on people in the U.S. and France. The drug stops the body from {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(release) chemicals that fix memories in the brain. So far, the research {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(suggest) that only the emotional effects of memories may be reduced, not that memories are wiped out. They are not sure to the degree people's memories are affected.

   The research has caused a great deal of {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(argue). Some think it is {#blank#}7{#/blank#}bad idea, while others support it. Supporters say it could lead to pills which prevent or treat soldiers' troubling memories after war. They say that there are many people who suffer {#blank#}8{#/blank#}terrible memories. {#blank#}9{#/blank#}, those who are against the research say that maybe the pills can change people's memories and changing memories is very {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(danger) because memories give us our identity.

    I was on my way home with a friend yesterday {#blank#}1{#/blank#} I found a mobile phone by the roadside. After picking it up, I suggested that we go to the house in front of which we found the mobile phone. And we did so. I {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (knock) at the door and two young men answered. Neither of them had lost {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(they) phones, but as I referred to some names on the contact list(通讯录), one of them said he also had those {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(name) and that it must be the phone of one{#blank#}5{#/blank#}their friends. I never considered keeping the phone. Instead, I immediately tried to find {#blank#}8{#/blank#} owner. And I believed that was {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(exact) what I would want someone to do if I lost my phone. It couldn't have been {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (good).

    Sometimes, helping others is just doing the right thing.

    Alibaba founder, Jack Ma graduated from the Hangzhou Teacher's Institute in 1988 with a major in English language education, and went on to teach at another university in the city. He gave up{#blank#}1{#/blank#}university teaching job after {#blank#}2{#/blank#}（discover）the Internet.

    On his long road to riches, Jack Ma says his{#blank#}8{#/blank#}（inspire） has been the film character Forrest Gump.

     “I like that guy. I{#blank#}9{#/blank#}（watch） that movie about 10 times,” he said in an interview with CNBC.

     “Every time I get frustrated, I watch that movie.”

Ma said the lesson he learned from the film featuring Tom Hanks was   {#blank#}10{#/blank#}“no matter what changes, you are you. I'm still the guy I was 15 years ago when I earned $20 a month.

    Last Friday a storm swept through two villages in the New Territories,{#blank#}1{#/blank#}(destroy) fourteen homes. Seven others were so badly damaged{#blank#}2{#/blank#}their owners had to leave them, and fifteen others had broken windows or roofs. One person was killed, several were{#blank#}3{#/blank#}(serious) hurt and taken to hospital, and a number of other people received smaller hurt. Altogether over two hundred people were homeless after the storm.

    A farmer, Mr. Tan, said that the storm began early{#blank#}4{#/blank#}the morning and lasted for over an hour.

    "I{#blank#}5{#/blank#}(eat) with my wife and children," he said," when we heard a loud noise. A few minutes later our house fell down on top of us. Mrs. Woo Mei Fong said that her husband had just left for work when she{#blank#}9{#/blank#}(feel) that her house was moving. She ran outside at once with her children.

    Soldiers helped to take people out of the flooded area and the welfare department brought{#blank#}10{#/blank#}(they) food, clothes and shelter.
