My doorbell rings at 11 am. On the step, I find an elderly Chinese lady holding the hand of a little boy. In her other hand {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (be) a paper bag. She is the little boy's grandmother, and her daughter, Nicole, bought {#blank#}2{#/blank#} house next door last October. Nicole has {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (obvious) told her mother that I am having a heart operation shortly, and the result is that her mother has decided {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (supply) me with meals.

    I know what is inside the paper bag — a bottle of hot soup and a {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (contain) with a meal of rice, vegetables and meat. It's become a daily occurrence.

    {#blank#}6{#/blank#} us is somewhat difficult because she doesn't speak English and all I can say in Chinese is hello. Once, she brought an iPad as well as the food. She pointed to the screen, {#blank#}7{#/blank#} showed at message from her daughter telling me that her mother wanted to know {#blank#}8{#/blank#} the food was all right for me.

    So here we are, two grandmothers, neither of {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (we) able to speak the other's language but communicating one way or another (with some help from technology). The doorbell keeps {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (ring) and there is the familiar brown paper bag, handed smilingly to me.

    Once there lived a rich man {#blank#}1{#/blank#} wanted to do something for the people of his town. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} first he wanted to find out whether they deserved his help.

    In the centre of the main road into the town, he placed {#blank#}3{#/blank#} very large stone. Then he {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(hide) behind a tree and waited. Soon an old man came along with his cow.

    “Who put this stone in the centre of the road?” said the old man, but he did not try to remove the stone. Instead, with some difficulty he passed around the stone and continued on his way. {#blank#}5{#/blank#} man came along and did the same thing; then another came ,and another. All of them complained about the stone but not tried to remove it. Late in the afternoon a young man came along. He saw the stone, {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(say) to himself: “The night {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(be) very dark. Some neighbors will come along{#blank#}8{#/blank#}(late) in the dark and will fall against the stone.”

    Then he began {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(move) the stone. He pushed and pulled with all his {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (strong) to move it. How great was his surprise at last! Under the stone, he found a bag of money.

    The Great Wall was listed as a World Heritage by UNESCO in 1987. Just like a dragon, it winds up and down across deserts, grasslands and mountains, {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(run) approximately21,196 kilometers from east to west.

    The {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (construct) of the Great Wall was not that easy, {#blank#}3{#/blank#} drew heavily on the local resources for building materials. The walls were {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (original) built in the Spring ＆Autumn Period and the Warring States Period. Emperor Qin Shi Huang succeeded in his effort to have them joined together. Since then, the Great Wall {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(serve) as a monument of the Chinese nation throughout history.

    With {#blank#}6{#/blank#} history of about 2,700 years, some parts of the Great Wall are now {#blank#}7{#/blank#}ruins or have disappeared. However, the Great Wall of China is still one of the most appealing{#blank#}8{#/blank#} (attraction) all around the world owing to its historical significance. The best-known part of the Great Wall of China, Badaling, {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(locate) 43 miles northwest of Beijing, attracts thousands of national and foreign tourists every day.

    Today, the Great Wall {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (recognize) as one of the most impressive architectural achievements in history.

Many cities have live music in their parks during the summer. But there's a park in Denmark

{#blank#}1{#/blank#} people can hear music all year round — not on a stage but among the trees.

As part of {#blank#}2{#/blank#}art project for public in Aalborg, trees in the Park of Music host the music once  {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(perform) by musicians at the nearby cultural center. It all started in the 1980s when the city asked visiting musicians to plant a tree {#blank#}4{#/blank#}a memorial (纪念物) of their excellent and {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(forget) performances.

Since then, over 80 trees {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(plant) by musicians worldwide. In 2012, some of the trees became playable! It works like this. {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (simple) press the button (按钮）on the plaque (匾牌)bearing a musician's name next to the tree, and people  {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(hear)a piece of the musician's music.

All kinds of music from  {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(artist) like Sting can be heard. The trees are "played" about 300,000 times a year, {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(show) the popularity of the art project.
