Chuck Wall teaches management and human relations at Bakersfield College. He walked into class one day and told his students that their homework was to perform a simple and random act of kindness. Not {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (understand) the homework, the students didn't know what to do. Chuck didn't answer their questions. {#blank#}2{#/blank#}, he encouraged his students to work it out by themselves.

    One week later, the students entered the classroom and began sharing their stories {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (excited). One reported on helping a poor dog {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (abandon) by its owner. Another student told others about giving blankets away to the homeless. Gradually, more and more students developed the habit of doing such kind acts, from {#blank#}5{#/blank#} they benefited a lot.

    Since then, similar kind acts {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (perform) in schools around the world. Many schools organize a Random Acts of Kindness Week, around November 13^th, {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (celebrate) World Kindness Day. Some schools use each day of Random Acts of Kindness Week to perform a {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (differ) kind act, such {#blank#}9{#/blank#} making a new friend, helping someone, doing community service or raising money for a charity. In this way, students learn to consider other people and think about how small actions can make the world a {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (good) place.

    I got a new job in Catholic University in Washington. In addition to a good chance, I {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(offer) a new flat to live in. One summer vacation, apart {#blank#}2{#/blank#} going to the park, I had not been outside my flat so as{#blank#}3{#/blank#} (do) an experiment about a disease. The {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (result) of the experiment were {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (value) to me and they would contribute to the success of my research.     The silent killer — air pollution causes seven million premature (过早的) {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(death) a year, not just in{#blank#}2{#/blank#}(develop) countries but also in UK and the USA as well. In China，people are well aware of the health problems it brings.

I check every part every day. If it has heavy air pollution, I will prepare masks for my family. I dislike{#blank#}3{#/blank#}when the air is bad. Because bad air makes it difficult for me to breathe and I think it does influence my{#blank#}4{#/blank#}(perform) at work. A new research in china has also found a link between air quality and levels of intelligence. In the study, 25,000 people living across China{#blank#}5{#/blank#}(test) in language and math skills last year. They found the results of those{#blank#}6{#/blank#}lived in more polluted areas were{#blank#}7{#/blank#} (negative) impacted, especially in languages. It adds to a growing body of evidence that air pollution has an effect not just on the lungs and heart{#blank#}8{#/blank#}on the brain.

    This research shows that the longer we are exposed to air pollution, the {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (many) problems we're storing up for later life. Campaigners hope this study will persuade the British government{#blank#}10{#/blank#}(think) hard before it publishes its clean air strategy next year.
