When someone has deeply hurt you, it can be extremely difficult to let go of your hate. To forgive is a virtue, but no one has ever said it is easy. However, forgiveness is possible, and it can be surprisingly beneficial to your physical and mental health. People who forgive show less sadness, anger and stress and more hopefulness, according to a recent research.1 Try the following steps:

Calm yourself. 2 You can take a couple of breaths and think of something that gives you pleasure : a beautiful scene in nature, or someone you love.

Don't wait for an apology. Many times the person who hurt you does not intend to apologize. They may have wanted to hurt you or they just don't see things the same way. 3 Keep in mind that forgiveness does not necessarily mean becoming friends again with the person who upset you.

Take the control away from your offender (冒犯者). Rethinking about your hurt gives power to the person who caused you pain. Instead of focusing on your wounded feelings, learn to look for the love, beauty and kindness around you.

4 If you understand your offender, you may realize that he or she was acting out of unawareness, fear, and even love. You may want to write a letter to yourself from your offender's point of view.

Don't forget to forgive yourself. 5 But it can rob you of your self-confidence if you don't do it.

    A. How should you start to forgive?

    B. Why should you forgive?

    C. Recognize the benefits of forgiveness.

    D. Try to see things from your offender's angle.

    E. For some people, forgiving themselves is the biggest challenge.

    F. To make your anger die away, try a simple stress management technique.

    G. If you wait for people to apologize, you could be waiting an awfully long time.

        Lack of motivation drags people down in their language learning and high motivation pulls them up. {#blank#}1{#/blank#}

Reward yourself after each hour of concentrated study.

{#blank#}2{#/blank#} After each hour reward yourself in whatever way is most appealing. Here are some common 5-minute rewards. A cup of coffee, a quick phone call, a short bike ride, 5 minutes of TV sport, walking the dog, etc.

        Remove distractions.

{#blank#}3{#/blank#} Listening to songs in the foreign language while you have a food break could make you feel still on target while stopping the distraction of hunger.

{#blank#}4{#/blank#} Some of the ideas students report for keeping themselves motivated go beyond just the language. Here are two ideas. I try to cook Spanish food. To feed interest in the country, I look at posters, pictures, articles, books.

Look for motivation in the wider world

Keep your interest alive by watching movies, and taking time to have contact with native speakers. {#blank#}5{#/blank#} You can provide conversation in Chinese for overseas students, and in exchange they spend an hour another day talking their language with you. If you combine this with lunch then it doesn't even take extra time.

    A. Acknowledge your weaknesses.

    B. Focus on aspects of the culture.

    C. Only you know what your most frequent distractions are, but hunger is a common one.

    D. If you are someone who needs to motivate yourself, here are some of the tips that can work.

    E. In some universities and schools there are learning exchanges.

    F. Breaks are important in any kind of study.

    G. Make yourself read beyond the course.

Most drinks stating that they are fruit-flavored (水果味道的) contain no fruit at all, while most of the rest contain only a small quantity of fruit, according to a study carried by the British Food Commission.

“Shoppers need to check the labels (标签) before buying drinks, though sometimes the actual content can be non-existent,” said Food Commission spokesperson Ian Tokelove. “Food production is highly competitive. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} It will increase profits, and consumers won't always realize they are being tricked.”

Flavorings are focused on the flavors of natural food products such as fruits, meats and vegetables, or creating flavor for food products that do not have the desired flavors. Researchers analyzed the contents of 28 strawberry-flavored products sold in stores. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} Of the 11 products that did contain strawberries, five of them contained less than one percent real fruit. In addition, each juice box contained nearly eight teaspoons of sugar.

{#blank#}3{#/blank#} Let's take jam as an example. Some strawberry-flavored jam was labeled as containing no artificial colors, flavors, or sweeteners, but it contained absolutely no strawberries at all.

{#blank#}4{#/blank#} Consumers have the rights to know clearly about what they have bought. Under current UK law, food packages do not have to distinguish between natural and artificial flavoring. “Describing a product as strawberry flavor and covering the surface of the packet with pictures of strawberries is misleading. {#blank#}5{#/blank#} Unfortunatly, it is also legal and widespread,” Tokelove said. “It's time to take measures to protect the consumers' rights.”

    A. The products which contain real fruit are popular with people.

    B. Even products advertised as more natural often contained no fruit.

    C. They found that about 60 percent of them didn't contain any fruit at all.

    D. If companies can cut their costs by using flavoring, they are likely to do so.

    E. It is important and necessary to demand a small amount of flavoring in the products.

    F. Actually the product contains just a tiny percentage of strawberry or even no fruit at all.

    G. The Food Commission suggested all flavors used in a product should be listed on the packaging.

A student's life is never easy. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} A lot of preparations are needed so you can be sure to go back home with a diploma and a bright future waiting for you. The following are some basic things you need to do before even seizing that passport and boarding on the plane.

    Knowing the country.

You shouldn't bother researching the country's hottest tourist spots or historical places. You won't go there as a tourist, but as a student. It'll be helpful to read the most important points in their history and to read up on their culture. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} You surely don't want to face legal problems, especially if you're away from home.

    Studying their language.

Don't expect that you can graduate abroad without knowing even the basics of the language. Before leaving your home country, take online lessons to at least master some of their words and sentences. {#blank#}3{#/blank#} Doing this will also prepare you in communicating with those who can't speak English.

    {#blank#}4{#/blank#}.

Check the conversion(兑换)of your money to their local currency, set up your bank account so you can use it there, get an insurance, and find an apartment. The Internet or your intended school will be very helpful in finding an apartment and helping you understand local currency.

        Remember, you're not only carrying your own reputation but your country's reputation as well. If you act foolishly, people there might think that all of your country men are foolish as well. {#blank#}5{#/blank#}

    A. Packing your clothes.

    B. Preparing for other needs.

    C. Most importantly, read about their laws.

    D. This will be useful in living and studying there.

    E. That would surely be a very bad start for your study abroad program.

    F. Going with their trends will keep it from being too obvious that you're a foreigner.

    G. And it is even more difficult if you will have to complete your study in a foreign land.

    任务型阅读

    A memorable science project

If someone tells you to remember a phone number or address, it feels like an easy task at first. You repeat the numbers to yourself, either aloud or in your mind. But after just a few seconds you might find yourself starting to doubt your own memory.{#blank#}1{#/blank#}Thus, it will try to throw away information that seems old or irrelevant. There are ways of helping our minds retain (记住) information, however, and in this activity you will explore ways that we lose and keep memories.

Short-term, or working memory, is a way of describing most people's abilities to store a small amount of information for a brief period of time in a readily accessible form{#blank#}2{#/blank#} People don't have to stop and think to remember something in short term memory.

{#blank#}3{#/blank#}Such techniques include visualizing (观察) the information in a surprising way or linking pieces of information together so that one reminds you of the other. In the case of visualizing information, this could be as simple as remembering you parked your car on the fifth floor in the D section by picturing five dogs sitting in your car!{#blank#}4{#/blank#} If you need to purchase cereal (谷物), milk, fruit, cheese and eggs, you could imagine the cereal in a bowl, with milk pouring over it and pieces of fruit on top. Then imagine cracking an egg over everything, and it's full of melted cheese! These may seem simple or even silly.{#blank#}5{#/blank#} In this activity you'll test the recall of a few friends or family members, and learn a few tricks for improving memory!

    A. There are many techniques for improving memory.

    B. Our brain is always seeking new and useful information.

    C. Short-term memory has a short duration but is quickly and easily accessed.

    D. In addition, linking information could help you remember your grocery list.

    E. Retaining that information over longer periods of time becomes difficult yet.

    F. Your short-term memory has a limited amount of space to store information.

    G. However, they are proved to be good ways for improving memory by scientist.

Empathy Last year, researchers from the University of Michigan reported that empathy, the ability to understand other people, among college students had dropped sharply over the past 10 years. {#blank#}1{#/blank#}Today, people spend more time alone and are less likely to join groups and clubs. Jennifer Freed, a co-director of a teen program, has another explanation. Turn on the TV, and you're showered with news and reality shows full of people fighting, competing, and generally treating one another with no respect. {#blank#}2{#/blank#}There are good reasons not to follow those bad examples. Humans are socially related by nature. {#blank#}3{#/blank#}Researchers have also found that empathetic teenagers are more likely to have high self-respect. Besides, empathy can be a cure for loneliness, sadness, anxiety, and fear. Empathy is also an indication of a good leader. In fact, Freed says, many top companies report that empathy is one of the most important things they look for in new managers. {#blank#}4{#/blank#}"Academics are important. But if you don't have emotional (情感的) intelligence, you won't be as successful in work or in your love life," she says. What's the best way to up your EQ (情商)? For starters, let down your guard and really listen to others. {#blank#}5{#/blank#}To really develop empathy, you'd better volunteer at a nursing home or a hospital, join a club or a team that has a diverse membership, have a "sharing circle" with your family, or spend time caring for pets at an animal shelter.

    A. Everyone is different, and levels of empathy differ from person to person.

    B. That could be because so many people have replaced face time with screen time, the researchers said.

    C. "One doesn't develop empathy by having a lot of opinions and doing a lot of talking," Freed says.

    D. Humans learn by example—and most of the examples on it are anything but empathetic.

    E. Empathy is a matter of learning how to understand someone else—both what they think and how they feel.

    F. Good social skills—including empathy—are a kind of "emotional intelligence" that will help you succeed in many areas of life.

    G. Having relationships with other people is an important part of being human—and having empathy is decisive to those relationships.

So, you want to learn how to get the most out of your reading experience. Reading effectively is a piece of cake whether you're reading for school or fun. The following tricks will not only help you comprehend the information you're learning, but make the reading experience much more enjoyable.

    Skim through the text.

Get a preview of what's to come by flipping through the pages. Once you have the basic idea of what you're reading, scan through the table of contents and headers or flick through the pages. Glance over any images, graphs, or illustrations. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} Take notes while you read.

Practice active reading by taking notes. Before grabbing your notebook, wait until you've finished reading or skimming through a complete section or idea. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} . Be sure to include the page number and source you're summarizing in your notes so that you can refer to the text later.

    Think about what you've read.

{#blank#}3{#/blank#}. Once you reach the end of a main idea, section, or chapter, take a few moments to let everything soak in before you get back to reading. {#blank#}4{#/blank#} Identify the author's bias, assess the evidence, and observe your immediate reactions. Ask yourself whether you agree with the position that's being presented or the direction of the plot.

    {#blank#}5{#/blank#} .

Link what you read to your existing knowledge or past experiences. Instead of treating the text as an isolated piece of writing, link it to previous readings. If a plot point reminded you of something from your own life, make a mental note of it. If you can connect the examples in the journal article with something you learned in class, jot down those similarities.

    A. Make personal connections to the material

    B. Set aside a few minutes to keep everything in mind

    C. Pause between main ideas to process the reading material

    D. Don't be afraid to question the text and make your own assumptions

    E. Remember: trying to be as fast as possible is the first thing you should consider

    F. Summarize the main idea in your head, and then write the main points and concepts

    G. Take a few seconds to read the text quickly, including the notes, to spot eye-catching key words.
