BEIJING—World－renowned Oxford and Cambridge have come to China to attract top－rank postgraduate students in cooperation with the China Scholarship Council.

    Oxford made its first {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (appear) at the China Scholarship Council's annual International Graduate Scholarship Fair,{#blank#}2{#/blank#} opened on Saturday in Beijing. The school wants to encourage excellent Chinese students to consider {#blank#}3{#/blank#} Oxford can offer for their academic and professional careers.

    “The students{#blank#}4{#/blank#} (come) well－prepared with specific questions and were serious about the chance,”said Sherwood,director of graduate admissions and funding at Oxford,who will make {#blank#}5{#/blank#} two stops for the fair in Wuhan and Shanghai.

    The University of Cambridge has attended the fair since{#blank#}6{#/blank#} first session in 2009,and stresses that it would continue to invest to train students to be problem solvers.

    I was raised in New York City where it's very cold every winter. In the sixth grade, a teacher offered {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (bring) some students to a homeless shelter after school. I went with my friends and the teacher for several weeks. {#blank#}2{#/blank#}, I continued to volunteer to help when they stopped going together. Because I was good {#blank#}3{#/blank#} sewing, I was told to help out with the sewing kit when any guests needed some repairs.     Later on, I started {#blank#}6{#/blank#}sewing club with my friend and we taught {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (we) fellow students how to sew. We made heart-shaped pillows for sick {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (child) and the elderly. Every time it rained I would think about the umbrellas {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (design) before. In the future I hope to continue helping others as much as I can. It is the most important thing I{#blank#}10{#/blank#} (do) ever since.

Jonny:Hey! I'm just practicing Tai Chi(太极).Would you like to join me?

Peter:I know nothing about it. Is it difficult?

Jonny:It seems easy, but you need a lot of practice. You just follow me like this.

Peter:I feel my legs shaking. I cannot do this any longer.

Jonny: Be patient! Tai Chi {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (call) “shadow boxing” in English. It asks you to act like water: to be flexible as well {#blank#}7{#/blank#} strong. In real competition, a Tai Chi master borrows the strength of the competitor and uses this energy to fight back. The harder you try to beat him, {#blank#}8{#/blank#} more likely you will get hit. He controls you!

Peter:Unbelievable! Oh..., {#blank#}9{#/blank#} you don't mind, I'll stop and take a deep {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (breathe) .

    Last Friday a storm swept through two villages in the New Territories, {#blank#}1{#/blank#}  (destroy) fourteen homes. Seven others were so badly damaged {#blank#}2{#/blank#} their owners had to leave them, and fifteen others had broken windows or roofs. One person was killed, several were {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (serious) hurt and taken to hospital, and a number of other people received smaller hurt. Altogether over two hundred people were homeless after the storm.

    A farmer, Mr. Tan, said that the storm began early {#blank#}4{#/blank#} the morning and lasted for over an hour.

    On November 11, the Mars rover(漫步者){#blank#}2{#/blank#} (name) Curiosity started its journey into space. After eight months flying in a rocket, Curiosity covered more than 566 million kilometers and finally landed on Mars — according to BBC reports.

    The rover is there to find out {#blank#}3{#/blank#} there is, or ever was, life on the cold, desert-like planet.

    The place {#blank#}4{#/blank#} Curiosity landed is called Gale Crater, a huge hole on Mars. Scientists believe that there {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(be) once water and even life there.

    In order to do its job, Curiosity is packed with many {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(use) tools, though it is only three meters long, about the size of a small car.

    It has a robot arm that can collect soil and drill into rock. It also carries {#blank#}7{#/blank#} own laser gun. The gun can turn a small amount of rock into gas, so that Curiosity can study what the rock {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(make) up of.
