I think I will never forget the special day in November. It was hotter than normal. This was the 1 my father and I had waited so long for, because we had been working towards this race for three years. Dozens of familiar faces from church and school flashed across my view. They had come 2 me. I saw worry and 3 on my father's face. Then the race began!

For the first two and a half miles, I felt 4. I had never before been so ready for something. The weeks leading up to the race were filled with controlled 5 and a strict diet. My friends hadn't seen me in weeks, but they understood the 6required to make my dream a reality. As in all of my races,I didn't 7 out in the front. I loved the pleasure of passing people as my strength overtook their premature speed.

Then without warning,my strength began to decrease. Neck and neck with one of my greatest competitors, I 8 see the finish line. I had begun the final dash into 9 when my knees became weak and my legs gave way. Nothing I could do would make them 10 weight.

I watched as runners rushed by me. 11 I knew my dreams of victory were destroyed, I had to finish the race. However, my legs hurt badly. With all of the 12 left in me, I got on my hands and knees and crawled (爬), inch by inch, across the finish line. Voices, both 13 and familiar, cheered me on. They gave me the courage to keep 14 until the very end.

The doctors were there in seconds, but my eyes searched the crowd for him. There was only one person I wanted to 15 to. I whispered, “I' m so sorry, Dad, I'm so sorry I 16 you.” He looked at me, saying, “You could never disappoint me. Sometimes these things just 17. All that matters is that you did your best.”

“But we worked so 18. What about our dream?” He reached over for my hand and said, “Don't you know that you are my dream and it has come true?”

It wasn't long before my running shoes were back on, marking a 19 path for my journey. I learned that all of the miles, the tears, the sweat, and the pain my dad and I experienced together were not for a 20. What I realized, though, was that to him, I was the greatest prize he had ever won.

完形填空

I was correcting students' homework in my office when I came across a piece of work which was quite similar to what I had read on line. At that moment, a 1 picture was called to my mind.

It was in a Chinese class that my teacher praised me for my 2 composition. After giving some positive 3 on it, he asked me to read my composition 4 as a model to the whole class. I stood in front of the class 5 and proudly, reading it in my best voice. "The mountain stands there like a…"the mountain stands there like a…" I 6the first part of the sentence, but could not move on. What was worse, I heard some murmured voices which made me more7.

    "Did she write it?"

"Hey, you must have8 it from others!"

I stood there, staring at the notebook, mind totally9.

10, at that moment, a low and gentle voice from my teacher saved me. I looked up at him and saw a friendly smile 11 his face. I realized that I was 12to continue. So, again, I raised my voice and 13 on my composition successfully.

I did copy those words from a famous work. When I 14my composition I found a few beautiful lines in a book. "They will 15 color to my composition if I use them as mine." I thought 16 . Finally, those sentences became an important part of my homework.

After class, I looked at my teacher 17 and waited for his criticism. But to my 18, he said, "You did quite well, but you can do better next time." Then he left, without any critical words.

From then on I never copied others' work; 19, I wrote authentic compositions.

Coming back from my memory, I 20 to correct my students' homework. I carefully underlined the part copied and just put down a question mark. Everyone makes mistakes. To error is human, to forgive, divine.

Wings of Angel

I used to hate myself because I wasn't "normal". Everyone else could play on the monkey bars and ride on a bicycle, but not 1. I had a severe spinal cord disorder(脊髓病) and I knew I would always be much 2than others.

I hated going to school and I hated 3at me. I hated seeing others smiling broadly and standing 4and tall. And most of all, I hated looking in the5and seeing an ugly and hunchback(驼背).

My friends found me 6because I didn't let other get close to me. I thought I was going to go on like this for the rest of my life 7Angela appeared.

That afternoon, I was sitting by myself in a corner of the school—a spot where no one would 8 me. That's when I first heard your voice.

    "Hi. Can I sit down?"

I raised my head and there she was, with an irresistible smile on her round face.

"What are you looking at?" you asked.

    "Ants."

    "What are they doing?"

    "No 9."

"I bet they're playing games and make friends. Don't you think so?"

That was how our 10started and it didn't stop. We talked about everything under the sun—the ants, the clouds, my little niche(处境)—until it was sunset.

Then suddenly, you saw my 11. She just stared.

She stood up, pointed at my back and said, "I know14your back is hunched."

I closed my eyes like a criminal waiting to be15. I begged in my heart for her to16, but you just kept on going. "I know what you've got in there. Do you?"

    "No," I answered 17.

She bent and whispered in my ears.

I was touched so much. A while back, my three-year-old son and I settled back for his goodnight1. We lay down in his little bed and he said, "Daddy, when I get big can I live with you?" I assured him he could live with me2he wanted to.

A moment later he said, "When you die you're going to feel3on your face and it will be me touching you." Then he4,"I will kiss you." He moved over, kissed me. I was aware of tears suddenly welling up in my eyes. I didn't want to explain5I was crying; as I opened my eyes to look at him, he was already6.

I spent some time looking at him,7the minute and wondering about the depth of the8I'd had. It occurred to me that I didn't remember having much of this kind of9time with my father, and that this was a time that would be10short-lived. This time of11that forms a three-year-old's life, would soon be12. What will remain, however, will be the13of this short while reoccurring in my mind non-stop. It made all of the difficult14of being a father worthwhile.

Sometimes, being a committed (承担义务的) father can feel like you're15the doorkeeper, driver, and16in the house. Then you will have "a17", one like this in which your child expresses18, pure, and unconditional love for you.

When your kids have19home and you look back at these years, all of these will be strung (绑) together to20the memories of their lives with you.
