What do you do at weekends? Some people like to 1 at home, but others like to go for a walk 2 have a picnic. My friend Jack works hard in a factory during the 3. At weekends he always4the same thing. On Saturday he 5 his car and on 6 he takes his family to a nearby village. His uncle and aunt have a farm there. It isn't a 7 one, but there's always 8 to do. The children help with the animals and give them their 9, Jack and his wife help in the fields. At the end of the day, they are all 10 and Jack's aunt gives them a big meal.

    Doctor Seuss was born in 1904. By the middle 1950s, he had become one of the best loved and most successful children's book writers in the world. His books are very popular with young readers. They enjoy the invented words and the pictures of unusual funny animals and plants. In 1954, life magazine published a report about school children who could not read. The report said many children's books were not interesting. Doctor Seuss strongly hoped to help children and decided to write books that were interesting and easy to read. He used words with the same ending sound, like fish and wish. He did not receive training in art. Yet, he drew the pictures for most of his books.

    In 1957, Dr. Seuss wrote The Cat in the Hat. He used less than 230 words to write the book and even a six-year-old should be able to read it. It was a fun story and easy to read. Children loved it. Their parents loved it, too. Today it is still one of the stories they like best. The success of The Cat in the Hat made him want to write more books for children. In 1960, he wrote a book using less than fifty words. The book is called Green Eggs and Ham. In 1984, Doctor Seuss won a Pulitzer Prize（普利策奖）. He was honored for the education and enjoyment his books provided American children and their parents. He died at the age of 87, but his influence remains.

    Millions of his books have been sold worldwide. People say his books helped change the way American children learned to read. Yet, his books are loved by people of all ages. Doctor Seuss once said, "I do not write for children. I write for people."

    Giraffes are beautiful, smart and friendly. They have long legs and necks (脖子). They are so tall that they can grow up over 5 meters (米). So how do they sleep or drink?

    You may think it's difficult for them to sleep, but they have no such problems because giraffes don't often stop for a sleep. Giraffes just need to sleep about thirty minutes a day. When they sleep, they don't always lie down (躺下). They usually sleep for minutes at a time, because it's difficult for them to get up again. And it's a great danger to sleep in the wild (荒野). But the giraffes in the zoo sleep for about 4-6 hours every day. They usually lie down when they sleep.

    Drinking water is a big problem for giraffes because their long necks are too "short". To drink water, they must spread (伸展) their front legs in a difficult way. And in this way, other animals like Africa's big cats can easily hunt (猎食) them. So they usually get most of their water from the trees and flowers. Giraffes don't need to drink water very often. They can even drink no water for months!

I'm Li Fang. I'm a Chinese girl. I like English best because it's very interesting and useful (有用的). I like speaking English with my classmates. I join the school English club. I go to the club on Saturdays. Our English teacher is Miss Gao. She loves us very much. But she is very strict with us. And we love her too. She often tells us some funny English stories. She likes sports very much. After class, she often plays volleyball with us. She also plays the piano very well. She often plays the piano and we sing and dance. Miss Gao is really good with us. 

My favourite sports are volleyball and swimming. I usually go swimming on Sundays with my friend, Han Mei. My favourite animal is a dog. I often play with it after school. It's my friend too.
